What's with the leggings wedgie look?

I hope I'm not being rude and perhaps I'm showing my age, but what is it with people wearing leggings the are wedged right into their butt crack? It seems like this is the current trend but it seems so vulgar 🙈

I also don't understand why people wear leggings as trousers with normal clothes .. surely these are meant for the gym ! 🤔

Because they're comfy?

Georgeskitchen · 05/06/2022 15:50

I always feel like shouting "nobody wants to see yer breakfast luv!!"

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 05/06/2022 15:54

druto · 05/06/2022 15:34

how do you get them in the crack, wedge them in?

They've got ruching down the crack seam...

I have some and I really like them - they make my slightly flat arse look like it's got some shape to it. I don't wear them outside the house, though! Nobody needs to see that! (Although DH likes them Wink)

I'm glad my teenage daughters don't dress for the male gaze. Thankfully they prefer oversized clothing.

It’s a little disparaging to presume all girls are dressing ‘for the male gaze’ because you don’t like their clothes/they don’t dress like your daughters.

I mean you could easily say oversize clothing is simply a response to the male gaze - like a dressing to stop/refuse the male gaze. Some women might feel wearing fitted/skimpy clothes is a similar response - sort of a ‘taking back’ of the clothing that has been sexualised. Either way there’s no need to tear others down. I hate this ‘I’m not like other girls’ nonsense. I don’t dress for the male gaze. My girls don’t do that. We’re different. But in fact, to the type of men who perpetrate the male gaze you and your girls aren’t different at all. We’re all ‘like other girls,’ so we should be supporting everyone to dress as they want.

Soontobe60 · 05/06/2022 15:56

I find that if you subscribe to the “if you cant beat them, join them” philosophy, and borrow your daughter’s leggings to wear when her friends drop round, they’ll soon stop wearing them 😂

Why DO some women in particular choose to dress in clothing that accentuates their body in a sexual way though?
Why DO girls wear their school skirts as short as possible?
Why DO they wear bikinis that expose their bum cheeks? Their breasts?

Is it down to wearing what’s most comfortable, or is it down to trying to shock their elders or is it to garner attention? Is it to be fashionable?

I know that as a teen / 20 something woman, my clothing choices would probably have elicited a few choice gasps from some corners. I certainly did it to shock, show off, get attention. Now I just wear clothing thats comfortable and hope I end up looking ‘nice’.

Beseen22 · 05/06/2022 16:05

I went into soft play to rescue DS and a very young thin auntie went up the stairs in front of me with these leggings on. But they were peach and a little on the see through side. I could see the full outside of her thong.

However we all wore weird stuff when young, my year it was the little tiny pleated mini skirts with the over the knee socks and dolly shoes. Or the tight low cut trousers with the lace up bit where the zip would be, usually with a visible thong hanging out the back.

Have you got the same issue with trainers?

gunnersgold · 05/06/2022 16:08

No ! I love trainers
What I mean is when people replace trousers with gym leggings . So a nice top and jacket and gym leggings .
I mean each to their own but it looks weird to me . So many nice options that are just as comfy!

Kanaloa · 05/06/2022 16:09

@Soontobe60

Who knows? When I was a teen I wore what everyone else wore so I fit in with them. Mainly because we saw Mischa Barton wear it in an issue of SHOUT magazine. But then to turn it why DO girls wear oversized sweaters or big jeans?

The reality is it’s sneery to say ‘I’m glad MY teen girls don’t dress for the male gaze.’ Almost all girls (whether we like it or not) are affected by the male gaze, and all deal with it differently, whether that’s fitted clothing as a rebellion (like a fuck you) or baggy clothes as a defence. Nobody is better or worse than anyone else for how they choose to dress.

druto · 05/06/2022 16:11

@SpaghettiNotCourgetti oh that makes sense

gunnersgold · 05/06/2022 15:26

I don't think it's very becoming ,especially the nude ones !
I think people think they look good but most don't really 🙈

Yes I saw someone in a queue with like a nude colour and I did a double take as she was just basically naked.

GrumpyTerrier · 05/06/2022 16:19

Well it's normal for teenage/young fashions to be dreadful sometimes. It's fine, you can then have something to look back on and cringe about.

This post has really annoyed me. It sounds very self congratulatory. Although of course not necessarily the case, it’s entirely possible that the teenage daughters in question are ashamed of their bodies and feel the need to cover up. Wearing oversized clothing is not necessarily something to be proud of.

Summerfun54321 · 05/06/2022 15:36

A recipe for thrush if you ask me.

😂 yes this is what I think whenever I see someone wearing their leggings hiked upon their arse crack

Emmelina · 05/06/2022 16:30

Do you mean the awful leggings that trended on TikTok? Carefully modelled by someone who has never missed squat day and/or spent a fortune on a BBL! On the average bum they look horrendous!

ElenaSt · 05/06/2022 16:32

They look awful and if some wearers are even the tiniest bit unhygienic, they are going to stink.

What's with the leggings wedgie look?
FreetheKhalo · 05/06/2022 16:32

So are we criticising girls wearing tight clothes and baggy clothes?

I wear whatever I want. I would wear gym style leggings in day to day wear because they are comfortable and I’m not trying to impress anybody, what is the issue with that?

I went out last weekend and wore something low cut, I wore it because I liked it. I was complimented on how I looked by a couple of men and their “male gaze”. Should I cover up next time instead, even though I felt good about myself?

You or your daughter being “not like other girls” isn’t the target, if anything it’s quite sad. You should be aiming to be yourself rather than focussing your attention on comparing who you are or aren’t like.

Penguinsaregreat · 05/06/2022 16:33

Like another poster said in the past women were encouraged to wear those ridiculous bras which put your breasts on display. The cross your heart, make your breasts look bigger type.
Thankfully that doesn't seem to be fashionable now.
This legging thing is just a passing fashion.

👏🏻👏🏻

Being proud of what they do or don’t wear is ridiculous in my eyes. There’s more to having daughters that appearances.

What makes you think that this is “dressing for the male gaze”?

Maybe they wear them because they want to?

For me, gym leggings are much more practical than most other trousers.

They wash and dry really quickly.
They're stretchy and practical for walking about, bending down etc.
They don't fall down easily.
They don't require a belt or constant adjusting.
They generally have a phone pocket so you don't need to worry about a bag.

Much more practical than jeans or any other trousers.

zafferana · 05/06/2022 16:42

It's gross, I agree. But at least they wear leggings, unlike Stefflon Don last night at the Party at the Palace, showing her arse to the world

Seymour5 · 05/06/2022 16:45

@dustandroses a young woman was walking in front of me in flesh coloured leggings and a matching strappy top. For anyone with who is quite weighty (as I am) and with noticeable cellulite, that colour is not a good choice. There are so many clothing options nowadays, why pick something really unflattering
