What's with the leggings wedgie look?

I hope I'm not being rude and perhaps I'm showing my age, but what is it with people wearing leggings the are wedged right into their butt crack? It seems like this is the current trend but it seems so vulgar 🙈

I like my sweaty Betty leggings with trainers and a gym top or hoody as a casual look or walking etc
.. again I mean when some people replace gym leggings for trousers in a normal outfit .. I personally think it looks awful but each to their own .

I'm glad my teenage daughters don't dress for the male gaze. Thankfully they prefer oversized clothing.

100% agree.

Yeah, I know what you mean...and I'm saying why I'd still pick gym leggings over normal trousers, lol.

The first time I saw this I was shocked. The woman had nude leggings on just as you describe. It honestly looked like she wasn’t wearing anything at all. Not sure if they were special material, but quite thin and everything on show! Front and back, including labia. Heaven help them if an early period arrives. Or any kind of vaginal fluid. I wouldn’t have the confidence even if I had the kind of body to carry this off. Perhaps I’m just getting older and out of touch with fashion..

I always feel like shouting "nobody wants to see yer breakfast luv!!"

Ugh you sound awful.

When I see threads like this I’m reminded of this segment from the tv show Miranda (of all things). See attached photo, and/or read conversation below:

Miranda: Oh I hate those programmes.I know what I’d do if I had one of those programmes.

Cut to Miranda approaching woman in the street with a microphone

Miranda: Excuse me, hello! Right well let’s have a look at you. Well I wouldn’t wear that too but you seem comfortable, are you?

Woman: Yeah

Miranda: Do you like it?

Woman: Yeah

Miranda: Do you care that others may not?

Woman: No

Miranda: Brilliant. Then wear that, then. Bye!

should say “I wouldn’t wear that top” not too

Emmelina · 05/06/2022 17:12

Gym leggings at least have a bit of weight to the fabric and support, so not as bad as the stretched see-through Primark ones! I have a bit too much jiggle to feel confident in them myself, so :)

Exactly this!

You don't see men caring about what other men are wearing 🙄

MadeForThis · 05/06/2022 17:26

Thong or commando?

I think the leggings look great, just wish I had the arse to wear them.

Gerwurtztraminer · 05/06/2022 17:33

The big bottomed fashion look has been around quite a while now, fuelled by music video's and twerking and other bum quivering dance moves. Amy Schumer did a great pisstake of it called "Milk, milk, lemonade" (best line "this is where my poo comes out")

Every decade will have their moment of looking back at certain fashions and thinking "WTF, how did I think that was sexy?!". Suspect up the bum crack nude coloured leggings will be one. As an 80's teenager there are a lot that I can think of.....!

zafferana · 05/06/2022 17:43

You don't see men caring about what other men are wearing 🙄

Well no, but you don't see men wearing giant codpieces any more, that fashion passed in Henry VIII's time.

What I find inexplicable about this generation of young women is that so many of them seem to want to look look like blow-up dolls.

AliceMcK · 05/06/2022 17:56

It’s absolutely horrible. Recently a girl walked pass me, maybe 14/15, skin tight up the cracks cycling shorts & crop top, almost transparent, she looked absolutely awful, especially as she wasn’t exactly skinny, massive tummy, flab hanging out and huge arse. Im saying this as someone who would have been exactly same size as her as a teenager, still have a massive tummy and arse. Im all for body confidence but if she was my DD I’d be encouraging far more dress to her shape.

Florelei · 05/06/2022 18:01

I don’t see a lot of leggings designed to go in between men’s bum cheeks or a lot of men’s skin tight crop tops in mainstream young person’s fashion.

I often wonder why not? If we have true equality why don’t the majority of men want to wear bum cheek leggings and crop tops? After all, if it’s about comfort, surely they are equally ‘comfortable’ for everyone?

I’ve gone off down a bit of a rabbit hole - it’s like why don’t female clothes have useful pockets most of the time when the male equivalent does?

Just10moreminutesplease · 05/06/2022 18:08

When I was a teen I bought thongs specifically for the waist band details because my jeans were so low cut they stuck out… super low cut tops too 🙄

I think most generations like to push boundaries with what they wear, it’s just a mixture of fashion and asserting yourself as no longer a child, isn’t it?

In the 60’s young girls shocked people with mini skirts!

Owlilac · 05/06/2022 18:10

It's meant to showcase a "nice ass" essentially

Surely the male equivalent is those hideous grey joggers.

Florelei · 05/06/2022 18:18

But @mizzo do the joggers show off the shape of young men’s bum cheeks? I don’t know - they might do.

It's not that inexplicable when you see how much this generation of teenagers have been exposed to sexualised images/pornography from a young age. They've grown up around it. So the boundaries get blurred.

I'm sure it's no coincidence that the current fashion for arses to look just perfect is related to more women and girls being expected to have anal sex.

Noname1999 · 05/06/2022 18:21

It's to make the bum look bigger 🤷‍♀️

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 05/06/2022 18:22

gunnersgold · 05/06/2022 15:26

I don't think it's very becoming ,especially the nude ones !
I think people think they look good but most don't really 🙈

Yep, this. They look awful.

Florelei · 05/06/2022 18:18

They’re meant to show off the bulge of the penis

SirChenjins · 05/06/2022 18:26

DD (an intelligent, independent, brilliant young woman) has some gym leggings like this - she and I have regular Words about them and not pandering to the male gaze. She laughs at me and reminds me that she has no interest in pandering to the gaze of either sex, and so we go round in circles…

It’s beyond depressing - between this, swimming costumes that show half your butt cheeks, and running shorts that do the same I completely despair. Men dress for function and practicality - not showing this amount of flesh seems perfectly possible for them.

Springdaisy · 05/06/2022 18:27

Kanaloa · 05/06/2022 15:20

Although when I was young it used to be trendy to wear low rise jeans so your thong could be seen clearly over the top of the jeans.

This! In a decade they will look back and think “wow! Did i really wear that?!” 🙈

motogirl · 05/06/2022 18:27

Leggings are at least a step up for scruffy grey joggers and those what I can only describe as 70's style slipper (sliders with fluffy top) that seems to be all the rage.

What's wrong with jeans? My DD's mostly wear dresses by choice (20's)
