What's with the leggings wedgie look?

I hope I'm not being rude and perhaps I'm showing my age, but what is it with people wearing leggings the are wedged right into their butt crack? It seems like this is the current trend but it seems so vulgar 🙈

druto · 05/06/2022 15:34

how do you get them in the crack, wedge them in?

fake arse

SpilltheTea · 05/06/2022 23:46

It's just an arse. I don't understand the fuss.

Rubyroseyposey · 06/06/2022 01:58

I think they are awful, but as I am over 30 with a flat arse, I doubt I am the target customer 😂

Noname1999 · 05/06/2022 18:21

It's to make the bum look bigger 🤷‍♀️

As if the UK is really in need of more large arses! 🤣

😆

”Does my bum look big enough in this.”

This thread is hilarious. 🙈🤣

Kanaloa · 06/06/2022 02:11

which trend is fine if you really are fit and toned but invariably as has ever been the case with fashion, is also adopted by the very much not physically fit with the worst possible outcomes/consequences.

Fuck sake, how on earth do you react in a proper crisis? I’m imagining you peeking out the window and wringing your hands as a woman who SHOCK HORROR isn’t fit and toned enough sashays past your manicured lawn on Privet Drive in leggings. And then you turn to your husband and say in a shaking voice ‘oh Gary… it really is the worst possible outcome… a fatty… in leggings.’ Then your two children (one boy, one girl, both dressed in modest and not vulgar clothes since your kids are too good for the male gaze and understand propriety) run for the smelling salts while your hubby whips the curtains shut so your poor little daughter doesn’t see the woman in leggings.

Kanaloa · 06/06/2022 02:13

And by the way, how are you all walking down the street to be constantly assaulted by ‘the outline of her privates, front and back?’ Did you see the back then rush round to view the front? Or are you a particularly small person who often finds themselves at crotch level?

TheGirlOnTheDragon · 06/06/2022 02:41

since when did being skinny=looking good?

Why do you think tall, slim people are selected as models?

This is like saying "since when did being young = looking good?"

Obviously people shouldn't comment on the appearance of individuals but... do you think the whole diet industry exists because people are concerned about their health alone? Primarily, those billions are spent because people know they look better when they are not fat, objectively.

TheGirlOnTheDragon · 06/06/2022 02:42

Obviously nobody should be unkind to any individual or comment on their body but it is a huge pretence to maintain that the majority of people find fat bodies more attractive. If they did all models would be much larger.

Im all for body confidence but if she was my DD I’d be encouraging far more dress to her shape.

The thing is you can't tell them because if they're anything like my DD they'll just do the exact opposite anyway Grin.

I do think we'll probably see more of this though. Growing up there was a few key moments for me that (while uncomfortable / embarrassing / upsetting at the time) provided the lifelong lesson of dressing to my shape and knowing which trends I should probably sit out.

I could never really imagine any of those moments happening to DD and her friends. They can be fat or thin or demiboys or cats and nobody tends to bat an eyelid. Bullies become the victims of pile-ons quicker than they can finish their insult.

Most of us will have grown up looking in the mirror and judging what we saw, but we've collectively encouraged them to break the cycle, and now we have flesh coloured arse eating leggings over cellulite and bare bulging bellies in supermarkets 😁 I dunno, maybe that's an alright price to pay for the positivity / inclusion we wanted though.

onlythreenow · 06/06/2022 05:28

You do realise that other people may think what you wear is hideous?

Indeed they might - but funnily enough I see far more people, of all ages, dressed like me than wearing those revolting things. In fact, I don't believe I have ever seen anyone wearing them in real life.

Have fun being miserable

I didn't say I was miserable - far from it - I said I would rather be miserable than wear anything so hideous if I had to choose.

Penguinevere · 06/06/2022 05:30

Leggings as trousers are unflattering on most people as it is, it’s taking that to a new level. I’m almost impressed.

I think there’s always a dodgy teenage fashion around and badly fitting leggings is having its day.

Ferngreen · 06/06/2022 05:49

It's the U.K. only that follows these daft trends - I can't imagine many in Paris. Why ?
I think it's largely trends set by gaming characters - they're all in bodysuits - however they are drawn characters so ordinary humans can't really cut it eg females with perfectly spherical boobs just under their chins.
Another fashion I've seen recently and couldn't understand was young women with tight scrunched pigtails and huge dark framed specs. It appears to be another gaming style.

StarlightLady · 06/06/2022 06:20

Throughout fashion history, there have been styles, that others do not get. Think back to women who first discarded their corsets, Mary Quant and the mini skirt and even Mom Jeans.

But it is wrong to suggest it is all for the male gaze, some lesbian women wear tight leggings too and they are not out to attract men.

liveforsummer · 06/06/2022 06:29

gunnersgold · 05/06/2022 15:29

I also don't understand why people wear leggings as trousers with normal clothes .. surely these are meant for the gym ! 🤔

Oh come on - leggings have been a wardrobe basic for well over a decade now. You've had plenty time to get used to them not just being sportswear

liveforsummer · 06/06/2022 06:41

Surely it's a right of passage to, as a teen and in your early 20's, wear things that Middle Ages bores like us think looks ridiculous and they will likely look back and cringe at in 10 years time. This has replaced the wonder bras and visible thing of my time as have the ridiculous thick, dark eyebrows replaced the barely there pencil thin ones we sported.

GreyCarpet · 06/06/2022 07:11

blindsinthecity · 05/06/2022 15:27

I mean, it’s not necessarily for “the male gaze”. They probably wear the same leggings going out with their female friends family. Most teens wear them with an sweatshirt/hoody.

Beyond that, like 99% of things women do could be attributed to “the male gaze” which is a bit demeaning. I’m sure there’s something your teens do that someone would say is “for the male gaze”

I'm sure that this point has already been made but the vast majority of women's clothing is designed for the male gaze.

It's one of the reasons women's clothes don't have particularly useful (if any!) pockets - because it disrupts the line of the clothing, makes women look 'hippy' and various other things that men don't find attractive in women...

SmiledWtherisingsun · 06/06/2022 07:19

Hmmm...Leggings with a wedgie and huge big bushy caterpillar eyebrows, weird contouring makeup & a crop top. Yep, agreed looks totally ridiculous. Am happy to be getting old too OP, so I don't feel pressured to dress like this!

Furrbabymama87 · 06/06/2022 07:29

Only acceptable on someone with a perfect gym bod. I hate seeing them on teenage girls.

Kanaloa · 06/06/2022 07:32

Furrbabymama87 · 06/06/2022 07:29

Why is anyone worried about the male gaze when (evidenced by this thread) women are happy to tear each other down? I mean leggings are fine if you’ve got a ‘perfect gym bod’ and any fatty wearing them is the ‘worst possible outcome.’

RuthsAndEsthersSpindles · 06/06/2022 07:35

I think there might be a misunderstanding of what ‘the male gaze’ means. It’s not a simple replacement term for ‘attention from males’.

Kanaloa · 06/06/2022 07:36

I know what the male gaze means. But the problem is with people saying snotty little things like ‘I’m glad MY daughters don’t dress for the male gaze’ as if it’s a choice and some people are just too good for it.
