If you drank this much alcohol... would you drive tomorrow?

16.4 units (lager)... starting 1pm finishing probably 7pm. Driving tomorrow 11am...

I don’t drink pints but on the basis that 16 units is about a bottle and a half of wine, I’d happily get through that in a sunny afternoon and wouldn’t even think to question whether I’d still be over the limit at 11am the next day. Usually if I drink in the afternoon and stop by around 7/8 I feel completely sober by bedtime.

Completely and utterly agree, if I’m not feeling hungover I’ll drive, end of.

Woudn’t cross my mind not to drive at 11am if I’d had this amount of booze and finished drinking by 8pm.

NotMushroomInEre · 02/06/2022 22:32

@SirChenjins not going with gut instinct, going with science. Of course you would be a dick to drive if you blew over. Science says OP won't, and although it is guidance, it is there for a reason. I'm not hepatologist, but I am able to read guidelines set out by professionals. The amount the OP planned to drink before she drove again was hardly excessive.

I've heard about people who blew clear after having 6 pints and then driving straight away - that is absolutely irresponsible and frustrating. Having 6 pints before driving 16 hours later is not.

Fizbosshoes · 02/06/2022 23:07

I'm quite amazed at the amount of people shocked at 6 pints over a lunchtime/afternoon. ...before they even consider the driving aspect. I couldn't drink 6 pints (I'd be on the loo half the night!) but I wouldn't feel remotely shocked seeing someone else do that, in that time frame, and wouldn't expect them to be passed out.
When we used to go on holiday as kids, my dad would sometimes have 6 pints in one evening. He didn't drink anything like that the rest of the time, (maybe half a bottle of wine on a sunday) but he didn't seem drunk.

Oh, wise up

Hilarious. I wised up and got sober years ago.

Can't quote your all, but good to see all the committed pisspots on one thread.

You may think and tell yourself you're perfectly safe to drive but you fucking aren't if there's alcohol still in your system. It will impair your judgement. One day you might cause an accident.

But keep throwing that dice and taking a gamble.

Precisely.

NotMushroomInEre · 03/06/2022 00:51

Good for you @milkyaqua 'Pisspots' 😂

Just because you couldn't control your addiction, it doesn't mean that those of us who drink more than a thimble of wine can't 😉

milkyaqua · 03/06/2022 00:59

dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/pisspot

How ridiculous to speak of controlling an addiction.

NotMushroomInEre · 03/06/2022 01:01

I know you are ridiculous.

NotMushroomInEre · 03/06/2022 01:15

As an ethical vegan, I wonder how I would be received if I went onto every thread that involved a roast baby sheep and said 'You murdering bastards, you were just cooing over those lambs in that field?'

A bit like an alcoholic coming onto this thread and declaring the OP an alcoholic I suppose?

The only difference being, the OP is possibly not an alcoholic, but if you eat lambs, you are actively supporting the murder of lambs 🤷

milkyaqua · 03/06/2022 01:19

Denial, rationalisation, defensiveness, weird projections, aggressive responses. Definitely not a problem here.

NotMushroomInEre · 03/06/2022 01:25

I'm not the OP @milkyaqua 😆

I hope you've conquered your demons, but we are not all necessarily in the same place as you.

milkyaqua · 03/06/2022 01:44

I have not once called the OP an alcoholic. Binge drinking is one form of alcoholism, though. Planned binge drinking is waving a bit of a flag. Only giving a shit about themselves, and their standing with the law, another. Mentioning they are "quite a heavy drinker" and that they will discuss their "relationship with alcohol" on another thread, might suggest a well-known problem with drinking.

It is you who have, though, amusingly, declared me an alcoholic! People get sober for all sorts of reasons.

You seem....overly invested.

NotMushroomInEre · 03/06/2022 01:56

Apologies. I suppose it was the 'I wish I got sober years ago' and the reference to pisspots that got me thinking you were judging. Oh well, my bad.

NO ONE CARES that you’re a vegan, or why you’re a vegan. Fuck me, you just can’t help yourselves can you?

I think you have me confused with another poster, as I have not said "I wish I got sober years ago". Rather insincere apology, isn't it.

I agree completely. I’d explode if I tried to drink that volume of beer!

FuckingNoise · 03/06/2022 07:47

Well I had 5 pints, stopped at 5.45pm, bought a breathalyser on the way home and blew a zero when I woke up at 1am. So all good today. Thanks to the non pearl clutchers who responded 👍

Great. Well done for going to the extra effort to check.

And for not letting the alcoholic or selfish drunk driver posts get to you.

Hope you enjoyed your day out.

Thebeastofsleep · 03/06/2022 11:34

Yes.

It's takes the average human body 1 hour to metabolise 1 unit of alcohol, and that starts from the time you start drinking. So let's be cautious and say it starts from the end of drink 1, 2pm. Then 16 hours later is 6am. By 11am you should be absolutely fine.

It's not our fault you drank less and finishes earlier than your OP stated. Nice drip feed Wink

HeritageVegetable · 03/06/2022 11:40

It's not a drip feed, it's an update. She originally posted at the start of the afternoon based on her estimate of what she'd be doing. The posters who engaged with the actual request mostly said "hmm, cutting it a bit fine, maybe drink less and get a breathalyser". She drank less and got a breathalyser and was clear with plenty of time to spare.

girlmom21 · 03/06/2022 11:41

@HeritageVegetable it's a joke...

HeritageVegetable · 03/06/2022 11:46

Sorry girlmom, not on top form
this morning.

toomuchlaundry · 03/06/2022 13:47

Where did you manage to get a breathalyser on BH?

iklboo · 03/06/2022 14:48

@toomuchlaundry - Shops have been open as normal. Halfords & Boots sell them, Amazon Prime does next day delivery etc.

NashvilleQueen · 04/06/2022 07:20

Churlish response. There were people on here saying they wouldn't drive for 24 hours. That's not the responsible behaviour they think it is. It's pious nonsense.
