If you drank this much alcohol... would you drive tomorrow?

16.4 units (lager)... starting 1pm finishing probably 7pm. Driving tomorrow 11am...

So I've just put your details into this morning after calculators www.confused.com/car-insurance/morning-after-calculator
It says if I was your weight and had 6 pints of standard lager then stopped at 7pm id have been ok to drive at 10.39am.
HOWEVER that is standard strength pints of lager so if you're drinking anything like stela or other higher strength, ie 5% (I think) then that'll be more units so to drive at 11.am really would be pushing it, I think.
Personally I think you should use one of these, be honest about how much you drank, and select 'premium' instead of 'standard' strength and then also pop into a garage and get yourself a home breathalyser kit to use too.
I know you say you're only worried about being fined and wouldn't drive if you you thought you felt ok. Unfortunately a lot of people who feel ok have also still caused accidents or have given positive breath tests. If you're worried about being over the limit to drive, purely for selfish reasons and you feel ok, but then get stopped by the police and breathalysed (likely because your driving is not quite as good as you think it is) and you fail then you're still over the limit therefore could easily have an accident. How you feel really isn't any actual help in this situation, so use a calculate and be honest about the amount and the strength and also a home breathalyser, because if you're worried about getting pulled over and blowing over the limit and getting a fine/ban/points, you are completely ignoring the fact that you could pose a danger to other people.

Oh and I meant grab a test from the garage on your way home tonight (obviously you won't be driving yourself, but do a stop off), or walk somewhere/get someone else to pick you one up tomorrow morning.

@Kool4katz

The op is trying to check she will be officially safe to drive. She doesn't expect to feel hungover she implies she wouldn't drive if she felt unfit regardless of official limit. I think you are being a bit harsh comparing her to an actual drunk driver who hit you.

toastedbagiel · 02/06/2022 16:14

I wouldn't drive at all the next day. I no longer drink but when I did I never touched my car the day after.

DoctorTwo · 02/06/2022 16:16

Are you celebrating the platignum jubbly? Hope you enjoy yourself, six pints is about my limit too. If I didn't drink after 7pm this evening I would probably drive at 11am tomorrow. That's 16 hours, so should be enough time to filter through approx 16 units.

VWCV · 02/06/2022 16:20

FFS, why anybody would talk about alcohol on here is beyond me.

What happened to you is awful and you're right that driver was a scumbag, but that's not what OP is saying.

She won't be a drunk driver because she won't be driving over the limit and she's saying regardless of the fact she'll be within the limit, she wouldn't drive if she didn't feel fit to.

SirChenjins · 02/06/2022 15:59

I didn’t imply or say it.

In that case I sincerely apologise.

LakieLady · 02/06/2022 16:26

I wouldn't, because I would still be vomiting from the alcohol induced migraine that 7 pints would give me. Menopause wrecked my alcohol tolerance.

HangingOver · 02/06/2022 16:26

That's my mental budget if you get me

Oh god I used to do this!! (I'm a recovering alcoholic)

lifecanbehardattimes · 02/06/2022 16:27

Having a substantial breakfast may help!

NotMushroomInEre · 02/06/2022 16:31

Hopefully the OP is well into her 4th pint. Enjoy 🍻

@Oblomov22 no people with the exception of young people don’t drink that amounts unless they are an alcoholic. You are minimising and that’s really dangerous. Better to be offended than not face up to reality. Being an alcoholic is not just a daily reliance on alcohol.

What a load of rubbish.

Maybe some people on MN have lost relatives to drunk drivers @Figgygal like I have. Quite happy for OP to drink 6 pints, not quite so happy for her to drive afterwards

Agreed. It's not the drinking it's the attitude to drink driving that bothers me.

Op has admitted to being more worried about getting banned than the thought of injuring someone. That attitude says it all really.

If op wants an afternoon drinking fine. Just don't plan on driving the next day.

Haribosweets · 02/06/2022 17:22

I love day drinking and rarely go out these days. When I do, I can easily drink 5 pints of cider, and shorts malibu, gin etc about 4-5 of them. I do this once a year maybe 2 at the most. It's from about 1pm - 8pm. However I do not drive the next day. Alcohol makes me sooo tired and rough the next day. I don't even drive if I'm staying overnight at friends and will get public transport. OP I personally wouldn't drive tomorrow but that's me as I know my body. Have a lovely afternoon

Kool4katz · 02/06/2022 17:26

FFS, my message got deleted!

So as long as the OP feels ok to drive the next day, that's all fine and dandy. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's not about not driving when feeling a bit fuzzy.

For the benefit of the VERY STUPID POSTERS on here, who actually believe that as long as they feel sober the next day, they're grand to drive.

You may think and tell yourself you're perfectly safe to drive but you fucking aren't if there's alcohol still in your system. It will impair your judgement. One day you might cause an accident.

But keep throwing that dice and taking a gamble.

The person that hit me was convinced they felt fine to drive and simply couldn't accept they were in the wrong, even after being prosecuted.

Is it really that hard to not drive within 24 hours of drinking a fair bit of booze?

Get a bus or a taxi and save a life!

iklboo · 02/06/2022 17:32

That's more bullshit than they get at the Pamplona Bull Run. 🐄💩

Nobody, not one person, has said that if they feel fine they'll drive regardless. They've said that if they're not over the limit and they feel fine they'll drive.

OP will be fine to drive legally, she's said even with that being the case she wouldn't drive if she felt even slightly fuzzy.

esoryelneh · 02/06/2022 18:03

milkyaqua · 02/06/2022 15:13

Gross. A planned binge. A binge drinker so committed to getting pissed, they plan it. And who is arrogant enough to believe they will not harm anyone else.

Hahahahahahaha

The problem with that is you don't know when you are under the limit. Its an assumption. And can be a very dangerous one at that.

If you plan a heavy session, then also plan not to drive for the next day. That's the only way to be sure you don't drive while over the limit.

I'm in Scotland and the limit is lower here, which I think is a good thing. Drink driving ruins lives.

Theimpossiblegirl · 02/06/2022 18:13

Have some squash and toast before bed. You'll be fine. 6 pints over that time period isn't as bad as people are making out. Some people's judgypants have been hoiked far too high.

NashvilleQueen · 02/06/2022 18:21

Never ask a practical question about alcohol consumption on MN. The vast majority of people who reply will be aghast at you having more than one glass of Prosecco more than twice a month and that will become the focus rather than the specific issue you're trying to resolve.

Blughbablugh · 02/06/2022 18:25

It takes your liver 1 hour to process 1 unit of alcohol plus 20 mins for it to reach your liver.

toomuchlaundry · 02/06/2022 18:26

@Smartsub quite a few people have said they could drink that much or more and feel fine in the morning and be able to drive. Others have said eating a big breakfast in the morning, that might help the hangover but not your blood alcohol level.

They seem to equate whether able to drive depends on how they feel and that would mean they must be under the limit.

If I drank 6 pints I would be under the table for a very long time, but others could drink 6 pints and not feel too bad, and so in a couple of hours might not feel fuzzy headed at all. That doesn't mean they should get behind a wheel.
