@Smartsub yeah but she is drinking the equivalent of 6 pints not 10. You drink rarely, op is used to drinking. Everyone is different.
Also her body will be processing alcohol units from 1pm when she starts drinking. The body doesn't know when the alcohol cut off is so as soon as a person is drinking it's processing it. The count begins at 1pm. so by 3pm her body processed 2 units already, normally.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 02/06/2022 14:50

Yeah I would I’ve done it on Sunday when in work next day but may have approx a bottle of wine over the afternoon stop about 7pm. .

Chumleymouse · 02/06/2022 14:50

How exactly does your liver know when your going to stop drinking ??

It starts to break down the alcohol as soon as it goes in there.

” Oh hang on a minute liver, we best not start yet as she might fancy another “. 🙄

toomuchlaundry · 02/06/2022 14:48

@TortugaRumCakeQueen doesn't matter how bright eyed and bushy tailed you are, your blood alcohol levels also matter

Wasn’t Ant caught drink driving the day after drinking?

To be fair. I think Ant had probably had a fuck load more than 6 pints.

I think a rule of thumb is one hour for every unit after you stop. So I think 7pm to 11am for 16 units is ok.

Also I would have 16 units on a day out. 1-1.5 glasses in the house but likely best part of a bottle of wine then a cocktail for a whole day/night out.

NotMushroomInEre · 02/06/2022 14:54

@Chumleymouse the liver starts processing immediately, but the more that is drunk, the body is saturated with alcohol and so this has a knock on effect to the livers efficency, hence the suggestion to start counting the units and hours after you stop.

HeritageVegetable · 02/06/2022 14:54

I'd sub out one of those pints for orange juice and Perrier. That should leave you safe.

Mount2Climb · 02/06/2022 14:57

@FuckingNoise Yes! Also he might have been drinking right into midnight or even early morning and said oh it's from last night.

@Chumleymouse hahaha yes! There is nothing worse than judgy, sanctimonious misinformation!🙄

4am · 02/06/2022 14:58

Personally I wouldn't risk it.

I know of someone who had 2 pints at lunchtime. Got the train home after work - got in the car and drove home - met a motorcycle head on at the brow of a hill - totally motorcyclists fault as he was overtaking and on wrong side of road etc - motorcyclist unfortunately died at the scene.

However, the person driving the car, although technically not at fault - driving position, speed, etc was all as it should be, they were breathalysed as routine and found to be just very slightly over the limit but over the limit nonetheless and therefore prosecuted and riddled with the "what if" guilt ....

Apparently you can buy fairly sophisticated breathalysers from Halfords - a requirement to have them in your car if driving in France I understand - maybe a good idea to get one so you can check your morning after levels for peace if mind OP?

TabithaTittlemouse · 02/06/2022 14:59

I wouldn’t but I’m probably overly cautious.
Someone near me was killed recently by a driver who had been drinking the night before and assumed that he was safe to drive because he had slept.

However important the journey It’s not worth the risk.

BigFatLiar · 02/06/2022 14:59

If you have a halfords nearby you should be able to buy a breathalyser kit and check for yourself in the morning.

WonderingWanda · 02/06/2022 15:04

I'd probably be too busy vomiting to be honest. Irrelevant whether you are a big drinker, can handle your alcohol etc as it just depends on how your body metabolises it.

LilacPoppy · 02/06/2022 15:06

@Oblomov22 no people with the exception of young people don’t drink that amounts unless they are an alcoholic. You are minimising and that’s really dangerous. Better to be offended than not face up to reality. Being an alcoholic is not just a daily reliance on alcohol.

RampantIvy · 02/06/2022 15:07

No, because I would have a headache from hell 😩

motogirl · 02/06/2022 15:08

Just drink less, I drank approx 10 units yesterday (ending at 9pm) and wouldn't dream of driving in the morning, I had a hangover for starters. Yes it's approx 1 unit per hour but we are all different and I think it's slower for women, be cautious, have a couple of non alcoholic drinks

myammus · 02/06/2022 15:11

TortugaRumCakeQueen · 02/06/2022 14:44

You'll be fine to drive tomorrow. It wouldn't even cross my mind. I can drink 2 bottles of wine, and be up the next day at 630am, bright eyed and bushy tailed.

do you drive the morning after 2 bottles of wine? how you feel is irrelevant to your blood alcohol level

Sisisimone · 02/06/2022 15:11

FuckingNoise · 02/06/2022 13:32

Wow is 6 pints over a whole afternoon and part evening really that bad? Even at say a wedding or all day barbecue etc? Looks like I need to reevaluate my "letting my hair down" days 🙈

No it isn't but you should have known better than to ask on Mumsnet. A world where a single takeaway lasts people for a week and where a few pints would render them dead 🙄🤣. Anything more than a thimbleful of croft original at a special occasion mans you're an alcoholic

Smartsub · 02/06/2022 15:13

LilacPoppy · 02/06/2022 13:56

Wow is 6 pints over a whole afternoon and part evening really that bad? yes it’s binge drinking you are drinking more than the weekly allowance in a few hours. That’s not normal for anyone other than a very young adult/student or an alcoholic.

IME it's not normal at all for a young adult. The ones I know hardly drink at all, it's their parents who like a binge.

It is however perfectly normal for lots of adults. It might not be advised on a regular basis but to say it's unusual is ridiculous. 6 pints is an evening out for loads of people and quite restrained for a whole day.

milkyaqua · 02/06/2022 15:13

Gross. A planned binge. A binge drinker so committed to getting pissed, they plan it. And who is arrogant enough to believe they will not harm anyone else.

CornishGem1975 · 02/06/2022 15:14

1 glass of wine of an evening and you're an alcoholic on Mumsnet.

How is OP going to harm anyone? She will be well recovered from the affects long before she plans to drive.

Jeez the sanctimoniousness of some people knows no limits 🙄 have a great time OP

itsgettingweird · 02/06/2022 15:17

I don't drink anymore.

But even I don't think 6 pints over 6 hours is a lot.

Especially at a function.

Pint before eating, pint whilst eating, few pints whilst chatting.

Then drink soft drinks and have an evening meal.

I think it's probably less likely you'll manage 6 pints purely because when you get socialising you drink less and you clearly have a slight frame and I imagine you'll be full!

But even so - driving 11 the next day is fine.

EinsteinaGogo · 02/06/2022 15:18

That's about a bottle and a half of wine.

I could drink that on a big night out / wedding / event / but don't think I would drive the next day until at least the evening.

Can you get a cab, OP?
