He is a pain in the bum, social on his terms and spends most of his time watching and judging. But we love him.

This is mine too. He can ba all cuddles and purrs and next time totally ignore you.

He's also a total unfaithful tart, would walk past me like I don't exist on his way to leg winding and rolling over for my neighbour. Fairly certain he's living with at least one other household as he can go missing for weeks. But as soon as he returns I forgive him just from one look for his beautiful eyes.

had one that was absolutely awful

He wasn't awful. He was just terrified, poor thing. I hope that the move helped him.

Well I didn’t like him, are we not allowed to say that 🙄 got him as a kitten and instead of being a fun playful kitten he was a nervous wreck, that’s why I re homed him to my mum where he would be happier, although he still runs away if anyone comes, my cat now is lovely and confident and not frightened of her own shadow.

heartsinklife · 29/05/2022 08:51

I know he is not ginger but he so nice
We bad a ginger cat growing up and she was long haired and so friendly but stupid

I've had 2 black and white cats, 2 black cats and now have a ginger kitten..

Black & white cats - affectionate
Black cats - one was afraid of his own shadow and not the most sociable, the other was a total baby who would lay in my arms for hours on end and loved getting attention.
Ginger kitten - adorable little bastard! He's into everything, attacks and bites anything that flinches and is generally a really adorable butthole.

DH grew up with a ginger cat and he used to take on all the dogs in the neighbourhood, and usually won.

Our vet said because they cant camouflage as well as other cats they tend to be more crazy and more likely to be fiesty to protect themselves.

Cuckoo48 · 29/05/2022 09:02

I've had two gingers in my life, one male and one (unusually) female. Both have matched the stereotype of being very soppy, gentle and loving.
I've also had tortoiseshell cats - the stereotype is grumpy and neurotic - I would say that has also been true to an extent, or at least they've not been lap cats or liked being picked up.

Tomlettegregg · 29/05/2022 09:15

We have a female ginger and she's more dog than cat. Absolutely loves people and gentle even with the inquisitive baby. She's a total joy.

A word of warning from me. Many years ago while out travelling we found a little stray ginger kitten by a roadside at the edge of a forest. He was a bit rain soaked and very hungry so we scooped him up and got him warm in the camper van.

We took him home as we couldn’t bear to let him go and he was still weak. As you can imagine after a few days we were quite attached to him and he us. He stayed with us permanently. We were very happy to begin with. He was a cute kitten, with some dark orange, black and white stripes with two lovely white spots behind his ears and piercing blue eyes. We live in a remote farmhouse, three miles from the nearest neighbour and with lots of mice and voles he was happy to go off hunting during the day and return for a cuddle and a play, maybe a bowl of milk. All was good but he must have has some form of genetic condition as he grew into one of those super-sized cats you see in the papers. Or on TV. And he just kept growing.

It got to the point where he became too big for us. At 9 foot long, over 3 feet tall at the shoulder and 300 kgs, we simply could not feed him enough. He would regularly go out and chase down deer and once took the postman’s leg clean off. He would roll around on the lounge floor and break all the furniture. And the cat litter box - omg it stunk to high heaven and we needed a large wide shovel to clean it out. He got very aggressive so we decided to rehome him but nobody would have him.

My mums ginger is so aloof, shes had him 5 years and still can hardly touch him.

mazylou · 29/05/2022 09:45

Sweet, affectionate, very, very agile, plays catch and will retrieve bits of scrumpled up paper for ages. But so very dim. He took months to learn about catflaps. We're thinking of changing his name to Prince Harry.

A tubby, cuddly dimbo, whose only ambition in life was to have his fluffy white tummy tickled and his head rubbed.

You rescued a lion? 😂

He did not take your postman's leg off, be reasonable!

VanillaIce1 · 29/05/2022 12:21

@heartsinklife Omg he looks like our Tony who sadly passed last year. He looks like he has that same red tinge to his coat also in the sun Sad

lostinabook · 29/05/2022 12:27

Daft as a brush...(much more ginger on his back!)

I have two ginger and white boys. They are 8 months old and fully bonkers. But incredibly friendly and adorabible. And will sit outside my bedroom door yelling to be let in at stupid o'clock in the morning, but they do give up after a while.

KyaClark · 29/05/2022 14:12

My girl is the loveliest, most loving cat.

She's quite independent but then it's like she needs reassurance that I'm still here and she can't get close enough to me. She doesn't mind being pulled in for a cuddle and will just lie on top of whoever or whatever to get to me.

I just love her.

This is my boy. He's a cuddle monster, gives you his paw and high fives for dreamies. He announces his arrival when he comes in with a "helloooooo" sounding meow, then gives me a love and cuddles on my legs.

He knows when I'm sad or poorly and glues himself to me. I love him.

maythe4thbewithme · 29/05/2022 14:23

Very loving
Biggest whimp on the street
Greediest of all cats
Mummy's boy

rubydoobydoo · 29/05/2022 14:30

Ours is the laziest cat in the world! He's also very friendly and demands cuddles and love - if anyone is stroking him and stops he'll reach out and grab their hand and put it back!

Next door's ginger cat is a cheeky, charming little fucker who gets fed by most of the houses on the street by pure deception. We love him too - he's the one with the fangs.

I've heard that ginger males are friendlier.

I've had 2 ginger females - the first was a complete psychopath but also dim. Small but chased huge tom cats out of her garden (and the neighbours' gardens too). Went to stay with MIL for the hols and chased her neighbour's cat out of his own garden. Would only come in backwards through the living room window - complete nutcase. Not interested in sitting on knees or in people really. I adored her anyway.

And my current ginger and white girl - quite dim too and very bossy - stares me out if she wants food - or anything. Has a place in the window we call her cross place because as soon as she's there if you approach her or even just talk to her, she growls and hisses. But make with the ham and she's your best friend. I'm devoted to her too though.

I'm not allowed to choose the next cat - if there is one. Sad

My boy still has his moments with cat flaps 4 years in. He definitely doesn’t like the normal headbut opening manoeuvre. He’ll sometimes sit for ages fruitlessly batting it with a paw, like he’s forgotten how they work, until we get fed up with the repetitive din and open the door for him. He also sometimes hooks the flap towards him so he can put his head through the open cat flap first. Don’t know if that makes him dim or clever!

Moonface123 · 29/05/2022 14:45

I' ve had two ginger cats, one dark ginger, one pale apricot, both absolutely adorable, affectionate, loving and full of character. l do find most ginger cats to be quite bold and friendly.

frugalkitty · 29/05/2022 17:13

Ours was amazing, ate everything in sight and was huge at twenty pounds, he could only get through the cat flap at a squeeze and could put his paws up on the kitchen worktop to swipe food off a chopping board. He was a bit nuts too, either loved you or wanted to rip your arm off. And he had a double coat so the only thing about him I don't miss is the ginger fur patches everywhere. He was a fab cat, we lost him last year when he was 12 and he's buried under a lilac tree in the sun at the bottom of the garden......in a big box at the bottom of a very big hole!

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 29/05/2022 17:46

We have a ginger girl - she's very sweet and affectionate and extremely placid. When I was a child I had a ginger male - he was very very grouchy and was always getting into scraps with other cats.

balalake · 29/05/2022 18:06

My sister had one and he seemed fairly friendly. Even forgave my dad for accidentally sitting on his tail.
