They have a rep for being the friendliest of cats ?

I’ve got two ginger sisters. One is incredibly friendly and sweet and lazy, the other is those things on her own terms but prefers to be out and about.

Mine is a very affectionate troublemaker! He is hilarious and very lovable.

Forgot to include photo of my little ginger git 🥰

Mine was so friendly and loving. And an absolute nightmare. Massively demanding, stole food out of the kitchen, had to lock the bin in a cupboard or he would knock it over and route through it, couldn't leave food out or he would eat it. More of a naughty puppy really.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 29/05/2022 07:37

I had a ginger boy - he was incredibly affectionate but a bit dim and he absolutely loved blue cheese 🤣

My flat mate offered him some cheap mild cheddar once and he looked at him in disgust before shoving it on the floor and walking away 🙈

EvenLess07 · 29/05/2022 07:40

We have 2 ginger boys. Not the brightest but so friendly and loving. Greedy fuckers though 🤣 truly living up to the stereotype!

Noseylittlemoo · 29/05/2022 07:41

I miss my Ginger vegetable. He died last year aged only 2.5 years but he was such a character. He was fluffy , chubby , clumsy and affectionate. Very greedy and a little bit lazy. He didn't really meow a lot but if I asked him if a question he would answer with a little yap - just like he was saying yes!
I have been wanting to get another one but afraid that it would not be as adorable. However I am v heartened by this thread that it sounds like gingers are often affectionate and full of character.

I have 2 cats. I don't like either of them because I don't like cats. However, the ginger one is very friendly where as the not ginger one is just quite friendly.

Onebabyandamadcat · 29/05/2022 07:46

Mine is affectionate when he wants to be though never a lap cat, he always wants to be in the same room as us. I'd agree with the "sawdust for brains" observation. He's the most daft and stupid cat I've ever known. He's huge but gets bullied by the wee girl cat a few doors down and often falls off the fence when he's watching birds as he forgets to hold on. We got him from a rescue 5 years ago as a kitten but he still shows no signs of anything that might have helped him living on the big bad streets - i think he wandered off one day and forgot how to get home then on one claimed him 😔

My fat ginger moved out to live a couple of doors down (( seriously pissed me off, I know cats have a habit of choosing their owners but don't lure them with dreamies ffs))
He's a bit of a local celeb. He lies there and lets birds pinch bits of fur for their nests, he rocks up at church services for a snooze and a few pats from his adoring fans and has also been adopted by the school next door which he strolls into and sleeps on the teachers desks.
Absolutely brilliant cat. Not very loyal mind🙄

FuzzyPenguin · 29/05/2022 07:52

He is a pain in the bum, social on his terms and spends most of his time watching and judging. But we love him.

Mine is also chunky, handsome and stupid.
He’s a baby at home but tends to fight a lot with the local cats.

Bigbadstan · 29/05/2022 08:00

I am living for this thread!!
My own is a classic garfield, lazy, loyal and loves lasagne (and quavers, cheese, rice krispies, crumpets).
He is very naughty because he's absolutely horrid to men he doesn't know. Loves the ladies though and lets children dress him up and make a fuss of him 😊

My ginger boy who passed away very recently was the most gentlest calmest cat I've ever known. He wasn't a lap cat but followed me around everywhere and was a great companion.

dworky · 29/05/2022 08:14

Soppy, friendly & affectionate.

BreakinbadBreakineven · 29/05/2022 08:22

Oh they're lovely. I have a ginger girl and she sleeps with me all night, and bats at my face for strokes. She's really chatty and sweet. Obviously these traits might only be desirable if you like having a totally co dependant relationship with your pet, other people find her annoying Grin

SamanthaVimes · 29/05/2022 08:24

Mine is a complete arsehole most of the time. Licks any chopping board that’s been left out (including washed ones that are drying) sits on top of clean laundry in the basket. Is so good about playing me and DH off against each other about his food we’ve had to get a whiteboard with each day/meal on it that we tick off when he’s been fed because he’s such a convincing liar.

We live opposite a school and at pickup time he’ll sit on our wall begging to be stroked then in a flash snap and claw people. You can tell the people who have been fooled by him before, they give him a wide berth!

That being said he is remarkably tolerant of my toddler and is much nicer to her than anyone else which buys him back a lot of points in my book! And he is completely magnificent to look at (long haired with a mane like a lion)

If he was a boyfriend there’s no way I’d put up with him but I love that ginger monster 😍

DoctorMartin · 29/05/2022 08:29

Mine is the most beautiful cat that ever lived, an absolute stunner. But at 1 year old we barely see him. He literally treats our house like a hotel and is either asleep or out.

Roselilly36 · 29/05/2022 08:32

We had a ginger female cat, she was the most intelligent cat we have ever owned, her behaviour was more dog like. She was so bright, and just adorable. I love ginger cats.

BiscoffSundae · 29/05/2022 08:35

Do they? I had one that was absolutely awful, he was terrified of his own shadow, no personality, nothing, if someone knocked on the door he would hide, when I first got him he spent the first 3 days in the cat carrier and wouldn’t come out. He was terrified of my kids, terrified of any noise, like the hoover etc, I eventually re homed him to my mum as he seemed extremely unhappy, I have a black cat now and she’s amazing and much more friendly 😊

IHateWasps · 29/05/2022 08:35

IMO. They're no different to any other colour of cat. They're no more, or less special than black cats, tabbies, white cats etc. I didn't find them as a group to be any friendlier than any other colour. They're individuals as all cats are.

IHateWasps · 29/05/2022 08:37

He wasn't awful. He was just terrified, poor thing. I hope that the move helped him.

SunshineCake · 29/05/2022 08:38

Mine is adorable but used to always be beaten up Sad. A neighbour has two and they are horrible. Mine is ten and his half sister is six months younger, she's black and brown. Both rescues. He saunters in very late for breakfast and starts shouting. If he is there at breakfast he eats half, black four year old cat eats her half, then they swap. He's become a lap cat and is funny, vulnerable and heart breaking.

DoctorMartin · 29/05/2022 08:40

Pic didn't load

Shakeupandwakeup · 29/05/2022 08:43

So cuddly and caring. Like a dog in cat form. When DC were younger he'd walk us all to school, then come and wait by the main road when it was school coming out time and accompany us home. When we moved house and I got invited round to neighbour's homes to get to know people he'd scout the neighbourhood looking for me and wait on doorsteps to escort me home. He used to scream the street down if I took DC out at night, as if he was scared we'd get lost.

He used to try and accompany us onto buses, jumped into the car when we went on holiday so he was a bit of a liability. But he was autistic DS's best friend for about ten years when he had no human friends (he has now) - and would sleep on his bed, curl up with him after school. He used to jump onto a stool at the breakfast bar in the morning so he could have his saucer of milk while DC had their cereal. he just fully integrated into the family. He's ancient now and a bit batty but still gives massive hugs and throaty purrs and strokes my face with his paw.
