I fucking HATE this word (light hearted)

... delicious.

It gives me The Ick. Hate it. When I am Queen it shall be executed. Ironically I don't really mind the worst moist, which is universally hated. What words do you hate? Don't really like the word "meal" either. It's just so... weak.

Lickle (used instead of little) and Bubba. Lickle Bubba makes me want to throw something at whoever says it

Platter and medley 🤢

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/05/2022 13:45

also hate when people say 'run the hoover around' because it makes me think they'll be running around with the hoover doing a slapdash job and hitting lots of furniture.

ha ha ha Grin

stuntbubbles · 28/05/2022 13:48

Far rather delicious than tasty.

Ah!
I thought you meant you fucking HATE the word "lighthearted".
Which I do, a bit. It has a little "<tra-la-la> Hello, birds, hello flowers" ring to it.
But it is, I understand, helpful as shorthand for "For God's sake, don't turn this into a bun fight, I'm obviously just starting this for fun".

I don't mind "delicious".
I also don't mind "moist" and "gusset" which will turn up pretty soon (if they haven't already while I'm writing this) as they always crop up on these lists.

I really hate the 😋 emoji used to indicate that something is delicious.
It reminds me of someone I knew who used to run her tongue wetly and noisily around her lips and say "Schluuhp!"* to indicate she liked something.
Made me feel sick.

*No idea how to write the exact noise.

'ick' can go in the bin as far as I'm concerned.

Spaghag · 28/05/2022 14:04

I've said this before on past threads but - grab.

As in grab a coffee, grab a sandwich. A grab is a short, sharp snatching action. It gives me a mental image of someone covered in hot coffee or running out of a shop with a stolen sandwich.

Also unique in situations which are certainly not unique. Unique means the only one. It does not mean rare!

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 28/05/2022 14:04

Oh yes!

And "boob" plus any derivation thereof: "boobing", "boob monster", "boob to sleep"... with the latter, I always picture somebody slapping LO around the head with a tit and knocking them unconscious.
Hate LO too.

AnElegantChaos · 28/05/2022 14:08

Agree with 'succulent' it's a hideous word

I've got a weird distaste for the word 'portfolio', not in the artist's sense but when people use it do describe their massive range of investments, totally makes my toes curl

Daenerys77 · 28/05/2022 14:09

Any standard mumsnet abbreviation.

TrufflesForBreakfast · 28/05/2022 14:11

I think some people on here are putting forward words they find annoying, and some are saying words they find ick.

There are some words I find so ick that I'd probably have to divorce Dh if ever I heard him utter them. They include cheesy, moist (sorry, a cliché), gusset (ditto), and preferably never in that order. Argh. Vulva and nipple also give me the creeps. I can never bring myself to use them.

TrufflesForBreakfast · 28/05/2022 14:11

Delicious, scrumptious and succulent are horrific.

Adults using baby talk when talking to other adults, like the examples above - biccy, ickle, lickle, bubs or bubba.
Similarly, anyone over the age of about eight using the term 'dippy egg'.
All cringeworthy.
I also strongly dislike the term 'picky bits', it brings unpleasant connotations to mind.
