Might as well give up work then…

I've heard it all now, please start a blog on how far the one off payment will go Grin

And be sure to include recipes for all the 30p per day recipes you make.

Oh, and a map of the foraging spots you use for fruit, veg, mushrooms, and herbs.

So the squeezed middle get little help then in comparison to the low paid or jobless. I get a bit annoyed by it tbh, we pay more tax now and get little to no assistance ever. We’re not eligible for anything at all, no FSM or help with uniform/school trips/school transport. Little help with childcare costs either. With this we’ll most likely be eligible for the lowest amount of help, it’s always the way.

Look, nobody is going to be happy however it was done

I'm not the squeezed middle, I'm on min wage and single, paying a mortgage and bills but not entitled to any benefits. Sick enough I struggle to work FT, but not sick enough for any help. I'll get the £400

It is what it is, do I wish it was more? Of course, it's human nature. But I won't get more or make myself happier looking in someone else's money pot

Catatemyhomework · 26/05/2022 14:52

We should never have privatised the energy companies. God I hate this government so much and yes I know that this administration didn't privatise them. The bills will go up every year you can guarantee. Nothing that increases in price ever comes down. Wages are not increasing for most. Most of the people I know are lucky if they're getting a 2% rise. We can't go on like this.

I never usually agree with means testing- but I have single friends who’s yearly fuel bill is barely £600, so to think they basically get it paid whilst others sink is madness to me

londonmummy1966 · 26/05/2022 14:52

Thanks for the link - this says the £300 will go to pensioners in recepit of the winter fuel payment which is not means tested so yet another handout to wealthy pensioners who don't need it when the disabled get less and carers are left out. This is so annoying. When I try to discuss this with DF who gets more than £100k in index linked pension income he just says "I worked for it". Grrrr

BensonStabler · 26/05/2022 14:53

Another thing I do not get is…

Why are Pensioners getting £300 in addition to the £409 energy payment, but disabled people on non means tested benefits are only getting an additional £150

Absolutely no offence meant to pensioners when I say this, why are they deeming them more entitled than severely Disabled people? I may be young by comparison but my body and mind are just as frail, if not more so than very elderly (I have dementia as part of my neurological disease) I know many pensioners that could outdo me physically and mentally in every way. I am also having swallowing difficulties and bowel and stomach problems that require me to have a specialised diet that costs a lot to buy. I also need to eat around 5000 calories a day to maintain weight and prolong my life. Again adding costs.

I don’t get why the thousands of people like me will be overlooked. It is cruel and unfair.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 26/05/2022 14:54

I am not keen on universal support. Although many people are in dire straits many aren't. DH and I receive state pensions as well as private pensions. We're fortunate enough to be able to absorb the price rises so will donate the extra money we receive to charity - probably food and fuel banks. I hope others who don't need it do likewise.

*£400 not 409 sorry for all the typo’s, my hand fine motor skills are really bad now.

ThatsMyJam · 26/05/2022 14:55

It's hard not to find it frustrating when the £400 is going to everyone regardless of income.

We have an income of £25k a year (one full time worker, one part time). We will get the same as my brother and sister in law with a income of over 150k and my in laws with 100k in the bank.

Equally both me and DP and our Dd are healthy, we can pay all our bills (not much left for treats admittedly) and we don't need to go to a food bank to eat.

Crimeismymiddlename · 26/05/2022 13:27

All these extra bits are just an ineffective sticking plaster, designed to make them pretend they are doing something. The big thing the government could have done is tell ofcom not to raise the cap in October. My energy bill is looking to be more expensive than my mortgage then.

What part of independent regulator isn't clear? The govt can't "tell" ofcom.

Who got £200? I received £150 rebate via local council towards energy - is this what they are talking about.

Me too, exactly what I was thinking

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 26/05/2022 14:56

Apologies if this has been asked (not got time to rtft) but would we be eligible for the additional disability payment as our DS17 who lives with us receives the highest rates of PIP?

Rosscameasdoody · 26/05/2022 14:56

RaspberryToo · 26/05/2022 14:42

@BensonStabler Why don't you switch to UC then? This would be odd if you don't get awarded it given people who are on the UC version of what you are are going to be awarded it...

Because there is no Severe Disability Premium on UC, as there is on income related ESA. ESA claimants should wait until they are invited by the DWP to migrate to UC. As part of the managed migration scheme, their previous benefit income will be protected. If they switch before managed migration they will not receive income protected status, so will not receive SDP and will be up to £40 a week worse off as a result.

Legofigure · 26/05/2022 14:18

It would have been nice wouldn’t it. Yes, Scottish carers get a supplement and I think Wales are going to do something similar.

@Legofigure thanks so much for posting this. I am in Wales and so checked. Unpaid carers who receive CA can apply for a £500 one off payment. I might never have know this if you had not mentioned it! I hope England do the same for you.

The £200 discount applied directly to energy bills that had to be paid by at a rate of £50 a year over four years.

Its now going to be £400 off this year's bill and no paying it back.

FlySwimmer · 26/05/2022 14:58

Well pensioners* are among the most reliable Tory voters, so….

(*not all of them, before anyone jumps on me!)

Same, we are on low-ish income too with no benefits at all. Not going to moan about what other people have.

Lightning020 · 26/05/2022 14:44

Good to hear that. Thanks for the reply.

@Lightning020 it won't be paid directly. it will come off utility bills. it's not just for A-D it's for every household

rainingsnoring · 26/05/2022 14:59

I was thinking the same as the last couple of posters. It's very unfair that wealthy pensioners who are already receiving the Winter Fuel Allowance are receiving another £300 but the disabled who are highly unlikely to be wealthy and are disabled only receive £150. The Tories always seem to support the elderly (as they vote for them, clearly) and disadvantage the disabled.

Thebeastofsleep · 26/05/2022 14:59

Better than nothing.

Those who are disabled may not just get the £150. A vast majority will also be entitled to £650.

The £150 is for those on non means tested benefits (who could be wealthy too)

the80sweregreat · 26/05/2022 15:01

The 200 loan idea ( which would go to the energy company , but have to be paid back ) was going to happen in October. That appears to have been scrapped now in favour of this windfall tax. That's how I read it!
