Not breakfast or lunch. Dinner / tea. Third (presumably last) meal of the day...

9pm, after the kids have gone to bed. DP says if we eat late then we eat less because we aren't opening a bag of crisps, getting the biscuit tin out, making toast, getting cheese and biscuits etc which is true. We have dinner then dessert then a cup of tea and it's bedtime!

Usually around 6.30pm. I get in from work at 5.30pm and crack on with cooking.

Sleepingb · 25/05/2022 20:20

I'm northern & hungry too but I haven't finished work in time to eat by six!

If you finish an office job at 5.30, it's not superiority to have not eaten by 6. It's just not time travelling!

Mysisterlivesinbicester · 25/05/2022 20:23

8.30 ish, though I tend to call it supper unless it's a black tie affair. It was always dinner when I was a child, though. When the DC were small, I used to give them what I called "children's tea" at 5ish, and then we used to eat once they were in bed. They were allowed to graduate to supper with us when they a bit older, though we also moved supper to about 7 then as it would have been too late for them otherwise.

Mysisterlivesinbicester · 25/05/2022 20:25

I'm northern, btw, so being northern is no reason to eat early. It's more a case of what suits individuals than where they come from.

tiredanddangerous · 25/05/2022 20:30

Any where between 6 and 8 depending what we've got on. I prefer it closer to 6 because I generally don't get time to eat lunch so I'm starving by then.

stillherenow · 25/05/2022 20:33

I lost weight after my divorce when I started eating dinner with dd at 5 rather than at 9 with my ex. It's much healthier to eat earlier

Now we eat about 6/630

merryhouse · 25/05/2022 20:33

Normally 6:15. Monday we have a karate class so we eat at 5.30; Wednesday we run an earlier class so eat at 7.

stillherenow · 25/05/2022 20:33

Your body clock adjusts btw

picassobride · 26/05/2022 07:23

Earliest around 7:30, usually 8pm.

reluctantbrit · 26/05/2022 07:58

7-7.30pm

When DD was smaller it was 6.30-7pm, depending what I cooked. We all weren't home from work/childcare before 6pm.

Now with a teen I love that I don't have to rush home and start cooking immediately. She also has clubs often until 7pm, so I cook while waiting for her to come back.

No way could I eat a full hot meal at 5pm and not being hungry later. 5pm is a cup of tea and a biscuit in our house. DD just got a snack when back from school and not in childcare.

MajorCarolDanvers · 26/05/2022 08:02

About 530

letsnotdothat · 26/05/2022 09:13

Between 5:30 and 6:30. I go running two weekday evenings so everyone tends to eat without me on those days and I eat as soon as I get back which is generally 6:10ish. I couldn’t eat any later than 6:30 without getting irrationally moody.

AllPlayedOut · 26/05/2022 09:24

Also how do you eat at 5pm if you're working until 5pm? Do most people that eat at that time not work?

Not everyone works 9-5.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/05/2022 09:27

I eat my dinner at about 1.00 pm
l eat my tea about 6
l eat supper before l go to bed.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/05/2022 09:28

Plus people WFH (a good employer will encourage you to get up from your desk for a few minutes every hour, so ample time to put ready prepared food in the oven or whatever) or use slow cookers/batch cook.
