Not breakfast or lunch. Dinner / tea. Third (presumably last) meal of the day...

I wonder how those eating earlier don't get hungry at 9-ish or so! My parents used to have 'supper' then because their 5pm dinner was so long ago!

I really don’t. I eat nothing after dinner and don’t feel at all hungry until the next morning. Maybe my dinner is big enough to see me through? Or it could just be what you’re used to?

If I know I’m not eating til late I have to have a snack at 4.30/5 to see me through though so I definitely eat less by eating earlier!

jay55 · 25/05/2022 17:04

I don't eat after 8, so usually sometime between 6 and 7.30.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/05/2022 17:04

6pm. I WFH and finish at 4pm so it’s fine. When I worked in the office and got home at 6.10pm, it was usually after 7pm. I’ve just put roast potatoes in the oven.

Hugasauras · 25/05/2022 17:05

6-7 usually. Pre DC it was any time between 7-9 generally.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/05/2022 17:06

We also head to bed about 9.30pm too, so no need for supper (although might have a cuppa and a mini roll for pudding at 7pm some nights).

Sleepingb · 25/05/2022 17:07

Weekdays -7pm with the kids - most days. 8pm without.
Weekends - all eat about 7.30pm
Unless I'm absolutely starving!
Kids are 10 & 11

Sleepingb · 25/05/2022 17:10

FuckingNoise · 25/05/2022 15:55

The later you eat the less likely you are to burn it off because you're in bed not moving etc

I'm not sure that's entirely true. Calories are cumulative. They don't work to time frames

I put on weight if I eat early because I want to eat again at 9.30/10!

Hobbitfeet32 · 25/05/2022 17:15

Around 5.30/6pm weekdays. Maybe 6-7 on weekends. Kids are primary age.
Those asking if you get hungry later- yes I do so I normally eat something around 10ish before bed. Crackers or toast or crumpets or similar.
We are up at 6.30am so breakfast at 7am, lunch around 12ish, Tea about 6ish.

Noone in the household is overweight and everyone does a lot of exercise.

I always sense an air of superiority from the later eaters on threads like these implying somehow that eating before 7pm is somehow childish and common.

I agree. There are so many myths around food and weight loss. Whole industries rely on these myths.

5.30pm.

We're Northern and hungry

Same

ExplodingCarrots · 25/05/2022 17:23

Your body burns alot of calories when you're asleep . Makes no difference when you eat . It's all about calories in vs out . If you're worried about what the scales are saying weigh everyday and do a weekly average . Takes in to account fluctuations.

MummyDummyNow · 25/05/2022 17:25

Usually have dinner around 9pm. If I ate at 5:30/6 I'd definitely need another dinner later.

CoodleMoodle · 25/05/2022 17:27

5:30pm. We have an 8yo and a 3yo. When DD was a baby we'd have dinner when she went to bed (so 7:30ish) but once she started eating we had it with her (and then DS) at the weekend and afterwards in the week.

When DH was going into the office I'd usually give the DC theirs and wait for him for mine (so back to 7:30 again), but when he started WFH full time we moved it earlier.

Neu · 25/05/2022 17:27

7-8pm

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 25/05/2022 17:27

I find this question confusing op, you asked us what time we eat dinner and then have went on some crazy notion that you don't burn calories during the night. You do realise that your body burns calories just by working/living. Also the calories would get burned off in the following days by living, exercising etc. The time you eat has no impact on weight. It's all about what you eat and how much you move.

To answer your question we have supper anytime from 7pm/10pm.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 25/05/2022 17:29

Eating late definitely makes me put on weight and affects my sleep, I can’t sleep if I’m full.

I eat twice a day, 12-1pm ish and 5-6pm ish. Need to go to bed at 9 to be up at 5am, couldn’t eat later than that and be digested / comfortable for sleeping.

AnnaSW1 · 25/05/2022 17:29

8:30-9 pm

About 7. 5.30 is the middle of the afternoon. I don’t think I’ve ever met an adult who eats that early

What rubbish , I don't know many people who've not eaten by 6pm ! I like between 5-6 and not a night time picker

MooseBreath · 25/05/2022 17:29

6pm most nights, but if I'm working, it's usually 9-10pm because that's when I'm home.

Crinkle77 · 25/05/2022 17:33

Mrsjayy · 25/05/2022 15:34

Between 5.30 - 6.ish .

Same. I like to get it out of the way so I can get the kitchen cleaned up then I can relax for the rest of the evening.

1stWorldProblems · 25/05/2022 17:35

About 9pm, some times later. Never before 8pm. Always been that time as my Dad worked in London when I was a child & my Mum only wanted to cook one meal per night. Carried on when we had kids as I was SAHM until DD2 was 8 & neither child got sleepy til 8:30ish (& didn't wake up till 8am-ish), plus only wanted to cook one meal for all. Now they're in their teens, they have clubs on a lot of nights so not possible earlier. Kids have a snack when they get in from school but I don't anything between lunch & supper. On the occasions I do get fed earlier (by friends), I end up wanting to snack about 10pm so eating later is definitely better for me. A lot of countries in southern Europe eat even later than us & aren't overweight so I don't think the time makes much difference - more portion size & not snacking between meals.

I

TimBoothseyes · 25/05/2022 17:36

Whenever either of us can be arsed to make it.

DoubleShotEspresso · 25/05/2022 17:38

Anywhere between 10-11pm

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/05/2022 17:40

I’m northern and hungry too. We eat tea at 6.00pm.

l can’t get my head round 8.00 pm. I go to bed at 10. If have to eat, tidy up, sort out for next morning in 2 hours and go to bed feeling stuffed.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 25/05/2022 17:41

Between 7-8pm. We're 2 adults, no kids.
But weirdly, I often have breakfast at 8am and then lunch at bang on 12noon.
So a 4 hour gap between the first 2 meals and an 8 hour gap between the second two.
