Civil unrest? Protests? Are they on the horizon?

Anyone else utterly fucked off with all parties and The Royal Family?

To me they are a disgrace it is embarrassing. I was reading yesterday about some parents going without meals to feed their children. People asking for help with menu plans to feed a family of 4 on £20 a week! I am furious! What a shit show! Labour are no better, distracting from the fact they have no ideas by continuously going on about the shit show that is partygate. They are all immature, rich out of touch knobs! The Royal Family are no better. Unelected, powerful simpering idiots! I can feel my anger growing by the day. The Jubilee is brilliant timing for them as again another distraction. Anyone else?

Probably not.
We're too far into believing that rich = better plus we've got nice new laws to stop this sort of thing.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 24/05/2022 08:53

Yes I think it's coming. At the moment so many people are struggling to feed their kids and it's only going to get worse. It will explode when people can't feed their kids at all.

fring · 24/05/2022 08:57

Well I'm pretty sure crime will increase & can see some law & disorder. There's definitely a growing resentment of the Royals, if you look at the DM the comments have definitely turned somewhat.

Who did you vote for, because this is after 12 years of Tory government and nothing to do with labour who have proposed a windfall tax and would reverse the UC decision. And no I’m not even a labour voter but it’s tiresome to see them being blamed for the mess caused by the Tories.

TwilightSkies · 24/05/2022 09:13

I think protests and civil unrest will happen soon. Maybe after the summer. So many people will be cold and hungry this Autumn/Winter. Not able to feed their children or put petrol in their cars. Poverty getting worse. It feels like a breaking point is on the horizon.

Worriedtodeath1 · 24/05/2022 09:14

I think in the first instance, a lot of help will be provided by people in the community. A bit like when everyone pulled together with Covid to help each other out. Then when those helping out can’t any longer, then what? No help seems to be coming from those fat piss heads in Government. I feel they treat us like toddlers. Distract, distract distract!

you read about families in the news struggling all the time but when I actually read how hard they have it on a forum and these are real people not journalists it is heartbreaking and utterly maddening. We would probably be classed as average family, tightening our belt, worried about grocery prices, cutting non essentials etc… These families have nothing to start with! I am expecting it to get worse for us so how on earth can others survive ????

The windfall tax is a temporary solution from what I have read! What then? I dislike both parties. What is tiresome is the lazy response of “who did you vote for!” I didn’t vote for them to answer your question.

I find both major parties despicable. I do think Steirs nickname of Mr Hindsight incredibly accurate whilst the Tories are out of touch bumbling idiots!

There needs to be a General Strike. The country would be brought to its knees in no time. I don't suppose people can afford to strike though.

All the political parties are absolutely useless.

And then to cap it all, will at some point be sitting in a cold home, unable to heat it up.

About time. While so many people will have less and less, these people seem to have more and more.

Worriedtodeath1 · 24/05/2022 09:45

Yo be completely cynical, all this Monkey Pox thing could be the next distraction. I really wouldn’t be surprised. Frighten the country with another pandemic, lock us all up again so we don’t protest / riot

I know OTT but nothing surprises me anymore sadly. They now know how much control they can have from people living in fear

Worldgonecrazy · 24/05/2022 09:49

It’s coming but I’m not sure what it would achieve. Prices would still be higher than people can afford, inflation would still wipe out pay rises, we would just have the extra costs of police overtime and damage repair.

This has been coming for decades, not just the last few years. Our politicians are bloated fat cats, whatever colour they nail to the mast, and that didn’t happen overnight.

The Cassandras have been saying this would be the end result of dumbing down a nation by creating a schooling system based on tests, discouraging free thought, and feeding a diet of brain numbing media.

Civil unrest will fix none of our problems. At this point in time I don’t know what will. There are no decent politicians to take the helm, and it’s such a shit show where would they start?

Scrowy · 24/05/2022 09:50

If the general public read the farming press they would be very very worried.

We are already set down a track that is going to lead to significant food shortages in this country.

There are some really hard times to come.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 24/05/2022 09:52

Crime has increased where we are - so far mostly low level stuff like stealing of catalytic converters, bikes from garages etc.

No mugging etc yet but guessing this will be next.

I really worry especially for single parent families with teens/kids who don't know where their next meal/money is coming from if they work/on benefits.

francesfrankenfurter · 24/05/2022 10:02

Riots tend to happen during very hot weather. So I predict a summer riot.

Gingercatlover · 24/05/2022 10:09

The food bank in our city hasn't enough food needed to cover the packages required for this week.

We had an emergency collection at our school on Friday but I didn't see much come in tbh.
Everyone is finding it hard and rightly getting pissed off with it all.

Worriedtodeath1 · 24/05/2022 10:11

I watched ‘ Clarksons Farm’ by his own admission he was just playing at it but it did a brilliant job of highlighting how fragile the food chain is. I truly appreciate British farmers now. I thought I did before but now I whole heartedly do.

funding should be made to schools to turn part of their outside areas into veg patches if they can. Free veg or heavily reduced for the pupils and their families. Community orchards etc

OP posts:
Nowisthesummerofourdiscontent · 24/05/2022 11:15

I second that, @francesfrankenfurter . Hot weather is often a precursor. Whether major displays of ostentatious wealth or privilege is another remains to be seen. It appeared to distract the nation when Charles and Diana married but the country was very different then. I’d guess later in the year when inflationary pressures really bite.

fring · 24/05/2022 11:37

when is it going to hit?

ChocolateRiver · 24/05/2022 11:40

If the weather gets hot enough I think there could be. People are well and truely fed up and hot weather seems to coincide with times of riot.

Arsewangry · 24/05/2022 11:46

I haven't heard much in the way of it. I feel like people just can't be bothered (myself included), what does it achieve, will anything change? Probably not. It's depressing but I think people feel hopeless.

Soffit · 24/05/2022 11:57

Well, they were discussing it at Davos. Putin is messing with the grain supply chain to cause famine in the third world. They said that he is trying to engineer a mass wave of immigration from N Africa into Southern Europe of hungry demoralised people putting pressure on the dwindling resources of countries barely coping with the needs of their current populations - some of this will trickle through to the UK due to our own unsolvable immigration failure. I expect the riots to happen in Spain and Greece before they happen in the UK (they usually display contagious traits).

Squiff70 · 24/05/2022 12:16

"The Jubilee is brilliant timing for them as again another distraction."

Yep, I can totally see how the Queen foresaw this cost-of-living crisis 70 years in advance after the death of her father, thus she became Queen - and how inconvenient of him to die when he did eh?

Gilead · 24/05/2022 12:32

I think there will be riots.
The Tories are running scared, they’re holding campaign meetings over the jubilee weekend, so we can expect an October election.

bellinisurge · 24/05/2022 12:37

I imagine there might be some civil unrest when schools/universities close for the summer. But it's not inevitable.
