Civil unrest? Protests? Are they on the horizon?

Anyone else utterly fucked off with all parties and The Royal Family?

To me they are a disgrace it is embarrassing. I was reading yesterday about some parents going without meals to feed their children. People asking for help with menu plans to feed a family of 4 on £20 a week! I am furious! What a shit show! Labour are no better, distracting from the fact they have no ideas by continuously going on about the shit show that is partygate. They are all immature, rich out of touch knobs! The Royal Family are no better. Unelected, powerful simpering idiots! I can feel my anger growing by the day. The Jubilee is brilliant timing for them as again another distraction. Anyone else?

What a smug and self-absorbed post. Let's hope you don't end up on the wrong side of a bill that you can't pay, that your income doesn't meet your needs for whatever reason.

I can't believe that you'd read this thread and post like that. What sort of person are you? Angry

A lot more balanced and pleasant-sounding than the OP and some of the others who’ve been posting on here.

Let’s be honest, when you say that you hope they aren’t on the wrong side of a bill they can’t mean you actually hope that they are.

If I'd wanted to say that then I would have said it.

Sadly the way things are and are heading to be even more gruelling and despairing for many families.

People wont riot, the'll be broken and turn it in on themselves and sadly more suicides will happen.

There are people that are barely hanging on. It's despicable.

EvilPea · 24/05/2022 17:39

I would struggle to vote for burnham. He’s so divisive on the south. It’s not north vs south. There can be better funding in the north, more infrastructure, etc . there can be all that without all the “southerns don’t want the north to do well” bollocks, it is bollocks.

Bunnyfuller · 24/05/2022 17:41

My husband and I both work full time. Our mortgage isn’t huge. But the ways costs have risen means things are getting unmanageable for ordinary families - not the perceived feckless, not the perceived lazy, not the perceived over-borrowers. We’re an ordinary family, 2 teenagers, both working full time, both ex military and now police, supposedly serving our country and we’re struggling.

Talking about being nasty whilst calling people names. 🙄

darisdet · 24/05/2022 17:46

Not me - I am going to love the street party.
It is not the royal families duty or indeed mine to feed other people's kids.

What a compassionate, empathetic post 😅

He's Manchester mayor so he's coming at it from the perspective of the job he's doing. Although Manchester seems to get far more than the rest of the north, London opening another train line today that's cost 20 billion, when the rest of the country feeds off scraps. If he was the leader of the national party then he'd look to govern for the whole country, not just London, not just Manchester.

As mayor of Manchester it's his job, as it is every other mayors job to lobby for their area. Street does it for W Mids a lot too.

Dashdotdotdash · 24/05/2022 18:04

No-one's going to start demonstrating against the Queen. However, Prince Charles is likely to be less immune.

HRTQueen · 24/05/2022 18:52

This has been predicted for years seems some on here can’t wait for riots to happen

I doubt there will be. Many struggling are too busy trying to hold everything together. People get fed up with protesters that hold others back.

Maybe a few protests but not riots

SlightlyGeordieJohn · 24/05/2022 18:58

What are people going to take to the streets for, what are they planning to demand?

Dancer47 · 24/05/2022 19:04

9 missed meals before people riot. (Alfred Lewis said this in 1906 and has been proved right.)
Meanwhile, there will be mugging, theft, burglary, carjackings, gang thefts from shops (as in now in San Francisco when they descend on a shop and strip it bare). All that will happen, and there will be demonstrations in London (of which there is one sort or another almost every day, and the government won't care about), but not organised rioting across the country until working people are very hungry.

We get all that in London anyway. A few more of the unwashed turning up with their ludicrous demands isn’t going to matter.

FourChimneys · 24/05/2022 19:15

There needs to be protests but not riots.

I love a good placard and although we are comfortably off, I'll be there.

Nat6999 · 24/05/2022 19:20

Everyone should cancel their direct debits & we should all refuse to pay energy bills until something is done about the energy cap, energy by October will have gone up by over 100%.

Nat6999 · 24/05/2022 19:21

Anyone watching Panorama? It's on BBC2 now.

mmmmmmghturep · 24/05/2022 19:34

Yes i am @Nat6999 they have got fuck all chance of bringing in any restrictions for monkeypox

You can lobby for your area without wanting to kick others down. You can campaign and put forward the positives of your area without being as hostile to others.

i actually think he’d be quite good, but I couldn’t vote for him as I wouldn’t believe he had the nation as a wholes best interest at heart.

How the fuck has he got away with all the shit he has
right back to being mayor, he’s constantly broken rules that others have resigned or been sacked over.
he just shrugs and eventually people have to move on to the next scandal.

I'm thinking to watch it on catch up now but I'm supposed to keep my blood pressure down!

Gingermoth · 24/05/2022 12:40

Nope, it's going to get bad in the winter and people don't riot when it's cold and raining.

Exactly my thoughts as well, but it won't stop people being seriously pissed off even if they don't riot.

EvilPea · 24/05/2022 19:48

One thing strikes me, if you were a junior trying to make a career in the government, your invited to a party, would you feel ok about saying no? Would you feel able to? Would you think it will affect your promotion prospects? So even though you know it’s not right, you go anyway.
