Civil unrest? Protests? Are they on the horizon?

Anyone else utterly fucked off with all parties and The Royal Family?

To me they are a disgrace it is embarrassing. I was reading yesterday about some parents going without meals to feed their children. People asking for help with menu plans to feed a family of 4 on £20 a week! I am furious! What a shit show! Labour are no better, distracting from the fact they have no ideas by continuously going on about the shit show that is partygate. They are all immature, rich out of touch knobs! The Royal Family are no better. Unelected, powerful simpering idiots! I can feel my anger growing by the day. The Jubilee is brilliant timing for them as again another distraction. Anyone else?

Nope, it's going to get bad in the winter and people don't riot when it's cold and raining.

Swayingpalmtrees · 24/05/2022 12:41

No

We will all be locked down with Monkey pox

LeeMucklowesCurtains · 24/05/2022 12:41

No.

We kick downwards when we should be kicking upwards.

It’s a sorry state.

balalake · 24/05/2022 13:45

Unemployment is actually very low but it also includes the people on zero hour contracts and in gig economy type jobs. The people who need UC to supplement their earnings.

TUC is arranging a demonstration and a march on 18 June plus smaller local rallies.

It might happen , but it'll be quickly stopped.
They can find the police to put a stop to things when they want to.
It wouldn't achieve much anyway , the government will go on about the council tax rebate and the energy loans and the vaccine roll out and whatever else they can come up with to pull the wool a bit more. Plus it'll all fall on the tax payers to clear up the mess etc too.
It'll just make things worse I think.

It pissed me off in a minor way as a republican, but I agree with you.

I wouldn't be surprised anyway.

Bunnyfuller · 24/05/2022 14:27

I’m sat in tears, reading the ongoing mockery, arrogance and carnage, waiting for a call for our dog who is in emergency surgery. And having no fucking clue how I will pay the 5k and growing bill. I have 2 kids suffering with massive MH issues with awaiting list for CAMHS which might as well be 10 years for how much it will help us.

The way the royalty, the rich and the government behave and treat ordinary people (as their source of income for enjoyment) is crippling me against the background of the rocketing cost of just feeding ourselves, and now this bill.

I’m really really struggling.

Lonelycrab · 24/05/2022 14:29

hmm didn’t really work like that in the 2011 riots.

"The Jubilee is brilliant timing for them as again another distraction."

Yep, I can totally see how the Queen foresaw this cost-of-living crisis 70 years in advance after the death of her father, thus she became Queen - and how inconvenient of him to die when he did eh?

Eh!?!? I said brilliant timing not that they engineered anything! As in I bet they think, thank god it is the Jubilee let’s hope the public are distracted by the fact that we are unelected , rich, powerful knobs that get away with sleeping with minors. Let us encourage forced fun with their street parties and strange idol worship probably spending money they can’t afford. I thought that was obvious from my comment 😉

I think when the Queen passes and they have images of Charles' coronation everywhere, decked out in gold and jewels the riots will start. By then enough people will have no heating and little food.

AlternativePerspective · 24/05/2022 14:41

No. What will it achieve?

Protesting against the cost of living isn’t going to reduce the cost of living.

The windfall tax is a gimmick.

There isn’t a decent party leader among the lot of them. The tories are, well, the tories, there aren’t enough words to describe what they are, and labour are so busy telling the tories what they’re not doing to avoid saying what they actually would do.

Until labour come up with decent policies the tories will continue to be voted in, because while there are people who will no longer vote for the tories, labour haven’t given enough reason for people to vote for them,so if they’re not voting, then while the tories will lose votes, labour won’t gain them, and so the tories are likely to stay in power.

Badbadbunny · 24/05/2022 14:47

Worldgonecrazy · 24/05/2022 09:49

It’s coming but I’m not sure what it would achieve. Prices would still be higher than people can afford, inflation would still wipe out pay rises, we would just have the extra costs of police overtime and damage repair.

This has been coming for decades, not just the last few years. Our politicians are bloated fat cats, whatever colour they nail to the mast, and that didn’t happen overnight.

The Cassandras have been saying this would be the end result of dumbing down a nation by creating a schooling system based on tests, discouraging free thought, and feeding a diet of brain numbing media.

Civil unrest will fix none of our problems. At this point in time I don’t know what will. There are no decent politicians to take the helm, and it’s such a shit show where would they start?

I agree with all that. We've been sleepwalking into financial and societal disaster for the last 20 years and neither main political party have had the guts to address it.

SquirrelSoShiny · 24/05/2022 14:52

Some in the summer (mainly the young) with wider unrest by autumn. Police are already starting to enhance their riot training.

SquirrelSoShiny · 24/05/2022 14:57

And Labour need to wise the fuck up now. Seriously. It is time for the grown ups in the party to realise how badly they are failing the people of this country by pandering to blue-haired shriekers on Twitter instead of normal, working families. Enough now, Labour. Grow some balls and ovaries of steel and just get to work.

fring · 24/05/2022 08:57

Well I'm pretty sure crime will increase & can see some law & disorder. There's definitely a growing resentment of the Royals, if you look at the DM the comments have definitely turned somewhat.

Liverpool fans still got widely slaughtered for booing that stupid song.

We're a nation of forelock tuggers that know their place. Always will be.

Swayingpalmtrees · 24/05/2022 15:07

You may get your wish if Stamer is fined next week. At least we might get a leader that recognises that ovaries belong to women!

I agree the country needs a reset, I am not sure rioting will do the job. We need an overhaul that is far more deep reaching than a few shop windows being smashed.

cupofdecaf · 24/05/2022 15:13

I think there will riots. I get why people are desperate and angry but I don't see what it's got to do with the royal family. Most of the gold etc is owned by the country not them personally. They aren't even that rich compared to others. I'd direct your anger at others frankly OP, others that are to blame and or could do something about it all.

Manekinek0 · 24/05/2022 15:23

I can't see it going any other way. Its a perfect storm, I have no idea how the BoE will get inflation under control, many countries are stopping food exports so that will be increasing, fuel prices increasing, lack of fertilizers, rumblings of redundancies have started...

All of this after years of underfunding and stagnant wages. We are well off as a family but I am scared. We have decided against a holiday this summer and we are trying to save extra.

Badbadbunny · 24/05/2022 15:33

This 100%. We're desperate for a strong opposition but have had a succession of Labour leaders and shadow ministers who are way out of their depth - Labour have been a shit-show ever since Blair resigned.

Andromachehadabadday · 24/05/2022 15:36

People in MN have been saying for years that there’s going to be wide spread civil unrest. I guess they have to be right at some point.

interesting that a op said there’s going to be campaign meetings over the bank holiday weekend and an October election. If so, the stories have something up their sleeve to ease the cost of living crisis. I can’t see them heading to a general election, with this shitshow.

I live in a historically labour area and support for them isn’t good really. They need to sort themselves out.

the80sweregreat · 24/05/2022 15:44

In a way I'm
Hoping that Sir Kier Starmer falls on his sword and ends up leaving. He has been disappointing and not as popular as he should be considering how the conservatives are carrying on lately ; many people are not sure about him and his policies are well hidden!
A change might be a good thing?
Not sure who though
