As above have you ever been popular or well known on MN . And decided to name change and take a back seat?

I would like to know what happened to all those people with Thigh usernames. Did they get banned?

Antarcticant · 21/05/2022 08:35

No, I haven't. I name change quite often for privacy reasons, but I'm not the popular type.

Mydogisagentleman · 21/05/2022 08:42

Probably not

DelorisVC · 21/05/2022 08:45

Nope, I name change too much.
I think MN has changed so much recently that there aren’t any popular / well known posters anymore.

Brideandprejudice · 21/05/2022 08:46

I didn't realise there was such a thing to be honest.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 21/05/2022 08:49

I recognise names but not because they’re popular. I don’t seek them out but vaguely acknowledge to myself that I have seen their name before.

I have no idea if people recognise my name. I like it though so it’s staying.

GrandSlamFinale · 21/05/2022 08:51

I have been involved in a few 'heated' discussions and I'm a regular poster on some very specific topics. Couldn't care less if I'm perceived as popular or not. I name change regularly for privacy reasons, especially for personal posts - I keep the same usernames for those specific topics.

HighDudgeonAtBerks · 21/05/2022 08:53

Way back when there were a lot fewer people and all this were fields. I was B-list at best Grin

JanglyBeads · 21/05/2022 08:55

Ironically if you were one of those you'd need to NC before posting on this thread in order to avoid getting into arguments about popularity or whatever!

Absolute definition of meta!

I recognise your name, as I agree with it and it makes me smile.

We don't seem to have 'royalty' these days, in the way they used to be referred to 5+ years or so ago now.

I do recognise some names, but not that many, it has to be said.

TheFoxAndTheStar · 21/05/2022 08:56

I name change once a month. There are months where everyone seems to be quoting and responding to my posts (which I guess is the only way you can determine “popular” on a forum), and other months when I am just talking into the void and may as well not have bothered.

ENoeuf · 21/05/2022 08:57

No not at all. Been posting for 15 years I think and generally had some form of this name.

BraveryBot9to5 · 21/05/2022 08:59

no, I really want to avoid that.

I once started a thread which is referred to still, occasionally! I feel a bit of infamy......it's uncomfortable, but I was not who I am then.

There were some horrible well known posters on that thread. Their supercilious entitlement to judge and to deliver that judgement was so supercilious, unkind and unhelpful. Being a SLEB on mumsnet can embolden people to make judgements.

I don't know who other people want to be, but I'm trying to go in the other direction. I wouldn't want to be emboldened to judge by my ''following''.

TheVolturi · 21/05/2022 08:59

Some usernames are more recognisable, but I mostly don't look at usernames unless the thing they've written is something that catches my eye.

BuckingFore · 21/05/2022 08:59

I used to beexceedingly prolific.

Now I occasionally post in that name, occasionally in names which I wouldn't want associated with my main name, and occasionally in other names with which I wouldn't care if I was outted.

As an aside, who on earth is going to come in and self define as MN popular? 😂

JoyDivisionOvenGlovesx · 21/05/2022 09:01

Not quite the same, but I’m OP of a thread from yonks ago that is quoted pretty much every time there’s a ‘funniest MN thread’ post. NC several times since though.

I think that thread may be, and forever shall be, my greatest achievement in life.

So true, a snappy username can create an impression that is quoted/agreed with. Or if you inadvertently create a user name that somehow baits the posters who need to cut you down at the knees, boy will you know it.

I know I've had weeks where everybody agreed with everything I said and then different weeks (different usernames) where I had my ass served to me on a plate for what seemed to me to be a fairly ordinary comment!

BlueKaftan · 21/05/2022 09:03

Bluntness100 is the only username I remember but I haven’t seen her for a while. I think she was popular. Myself, I prefer to lurk unnoticed.

nc888 · 21/05/2022 09:03

Who even looks at usernames?

I NC regularly because I don't want people looking back at stuff I've written.

I’m glad it makes you smile. ☺️ I chose it when DD1 was little and insisting we watch the little rabbit demon. Now DD2 is watching him too. 😩😩😩

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 21/05/2022 09:21

There's definitely some user names I recognise as they post quite regularly. Some have opinions I tend to agree with and others that I generally don't. I've been on MN for 7 years and definitely don't see posters as popular the way they used to be. I don't post enough to be popular 😂

We have a small age gap, so we've not had to repeat the viewing hell, as they got past it together (and also hate him now too!).

I'm not sure popular is the right word. Prolific, maybe! 🙈🤣

LaWench · 21/05/2022 09:34

No, I've been a poster here for 16 years and have been to a meetup and a MN Xmas do in the past. I've been a part of the anti and post natal groups with my DC and I'm still on FB groups that offshooted from MN. I change frequently for anonymity, I don't really want to be a known poster.
