Or no one ever talks about them anymore.

I will offer chocolate covered cornflakes, which used to be in high street baker's windows every eater with confectionary eggs atop. A staple home economics recipe, I recall running home from school with a large tin, convinced that I was going to blow everyone's mind with my culinary genius.

And Spam. Like 'corned beef', but the pork version, also in a tin. That curious shape, reminded me of feeding the cat. My DH watches a lot of wild camping/van man stuff in Japan on youtube and it seems to be having a resurgence..

There used to be a frozen pastry that you toasted, it had chocolate in the middle and the pastry was soft. Can never remember what they were called but they were completely different to pop tarts.

PLJ squash
Tuc savoury biscuits

Ros3tta · 19/05/2022 00:47

You can get Tunnocks snowballs and teacakes in most supermarkets. The snowballs being slightly more difficult to find. But Aldi do a version. And marshmallow fluff is the exact stuff they put inside. Or tastes like iy

Spam is wildly popular in (of all places) Hawaii. They have actual Spam fesivals. I have no plans to attend.

FesTivals. Lovely new platform, STILL no "Edit" function.

Tuc savoury biscuits

You can still get both of these. I love the PLJ lime juice, hard to find though

VanillaImpulse · 19/05/2022 00:56

Does anyone remember Unigate Hi! drinks cartons? They had a sunshine wearing sunglasses drinking through a straw. Always used to get something like 10 for £1 from the market. Raspberry, lemon and lime, orange and blackcurrant I remember

sjpkgp1 · 19/05/2022 00:59

We still eat Angel Delight, particularly butterscotch, BUT does anyone remember the lime version, I still miss it 30 years later. Hated dream topping and toast toppers. Also loving the reference to Bird's Apeel, a powder that you made with water to make an "orange juice drink", it was "lively", and definitely not juice. Also enjoyed supermousses in my time, probably after a findus crispy pancake and oven chips. Child of the 80s.

Micro noodles. They were lovely, chicken flavour was the best. I really wished they would bring them back Sad

AuntTwacky · 19/05/2022 01:05

Rice Creamola

AnElegantChaos · 19/05/2022 01:05

Laughing Cow cheese except it was in a tray of small individually wrapped cubes with different flavours.

VanillaImpulse · 19/05/2022 01:05

Pot Rice - rice version of pot noodle. Came in a curry one and a lovely creamy chicken one

lecreusetpeppermill · 19/05/2022 01:06

I am surprised Bachelors super noodles are still going. They taste like glue.
Much prefer the 30p Maggi ones, curry especially. Pity they're full of god knows what. So tasty!

Findus savoury pancakes- sure I’ve seen them again.
secret chocolate
umbogo juice box- tropical juice
smiths salt packet crisps ( yes you can still get them)
stackers( similar to pringles)

lecreusetpeppermill · 19/05/2022 01:10

My dad ran a continental cheese business and regularly sold laughing cow. It was affiliated with a French firm and the lorries stank of wild unknowable, splendid cheeses Grin
They wouldn't have anything to do with Dairylea!

God those were the days, god rest his soul.. I could barely stomach the idea of cheese until I was in my 30's thanks to that. I must say I've caught up now though, with a weakness for creamy lancashire and whatnot.

I used to love PLJ! I swear my mouth puckered as I read that.

beautifulandslightlymad · 19/05/2022 01:37

I like vol-a-vonts, almost impossible to find now in the frozen isle.

I like them with condensed mushroom soup with cooked chicken diced in with chedder cheese melted on top. A bit like a posh toast topper.....which you can't get anymore either.

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 19/05/2022 01:39

Texan bars. I still really miss them and think about them often.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 19/05/2022 01:45

Chocolate pudding - not sponge pudding, but the sort of ‘not quite mousse, not quite cream, not quite yoghurt’ dairy dessert (as shown in the picture). I always buy it when I’m in Spain, but it seems to be a thing of the past in the UK.

Can you still get proper big cooking apples? I haven’t seen them in years. Also runner beans - obviously you can still get them, but I seem to remember having them all the time as a child. (Although to be fair, we did grow them in the garden, so maybe I was fed an abnormal amount!)

In terms of specific products I miss, does anyone remember Pilsbury Toaster Pockets? They were a bit like a savoury version of McDonalds hot apple pies - you used to cook them in the toaster (and then burn your tongue when the hot filling leaked out). The cheese and chive variety was my favourite.

Flans. It's all fancy quiches these days.
Bacon and egg flan is now quiche Lorraine.

hamsaladsandwichh · 19/05/2022 01:56

Frozen boil in the bag beef and gravy
