Or no one ever talks about them anymore.

I will offer chocolate covered cornflakes, which used to be in high street baker's windows every eater with confectionary eggs atop. A staple home economics recipe, I recall running home from school with a large tin, convinced that I was going to blow everyone's mind with my culinary genius.

And Spam. Like 'corned beef', but the pork version, also in a tin. That curious shape, reminded me of feeding the cat. My DH watches a lot of wild camping/van man stuff in Japan on youtube and it seems to be having a resurgence..

Minted frozen peas. I used to love them, but then they disappeared never to be seen again.

DoctorMarten · 19/05/2022 00:09

Texan bars, Nutty, Cabana, toffee Treets, gold rush chewing gum, Spangles... aaah, my childhood! 🥺

Antarcticant · 19/05/2022 00:10

Powdered ice cream -raspberry ripple flavour.

Yes to Mignons Morseaux, the hollow bacon piglets and salsa mesquite kettle chips. I’ve presumed all these things have been banned because they contain some kind of addictive poisonous chemical 🤷🏻‍♀️ Like the old night nurse which was ace for a great night’s sleep!

FabulousKilljoys · 19/05/2022 00:10

Glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers Piglets!

We used to have the Heinz tinned vegetable salad and potato salad with tinned ham.

I miss toast toppers.

Yes to all of these. And golden cup. My dad used to get me one of them.

And Secret chocolate bars. And Blitz. Mmm..

pitterypattery00 · 19/05/2022 00:12

Meanies and space raiders (both pickled onion crisps) - small bags cost 10p at youth club!

whatodowhattodo · 19/05/2022 00:12

Just remembered another - had a lemon cornetto on a trip to Germany many years ago, was AMAZING and never been located since (only looked when in shops not scoured the internet which I perhaps should!)

Phrenologistsfinger · 19/05/2022 00:12

Crepes suzette
rum baba
pineapple fritters

FabulousKilljoys · 19/05/2022 00:13

Moon dust. I think it got banned because it had something dodgy in it. I was quite small then so I don't fully recall it but my cousin who was older used to get it. Like popping candy but it was powdered.

SanFranBear · 19/05/2022 00:17

and 'set yoghurts' whatever happened them.

Asda sell these... I was sooo excited as I ate them until I popped as a kid. Still the same as well although not always in stock.

I'd bring back Metcalfe's Chocolate Crackle Popcorn.. popcorn with a sticky, chocolate toffee drizzled (so not coated) - best food ever and I am devastated it has gone, never to return!

And Lemom Crunch - bloody loved that stuff!!

MrOllivander · 19/05/2022 00:20

We used to get yoghurts in glass jars with a foil top, anyone remember what they were? I remember how creamy the raspberry one was

MrOllivander · 19/05/2022 00:20

Oh and they also had a layered one, it had a fruit compote at the bottom

delightly · 19/05/2022 00:22

Does anyone remember salt & vinegar Zircons?? OMG they were the best. I used to get them from the school tuckshop, prob early-mid 90s. I did like the beef and tomato potato puffs, and the s&v ones, but Zircons were the best. I am still on the look out for the best salt & vinegary crisps (McCoy's are good), but nothing beats Zircons. Sigh.

Sterilised cream in tins. Wonderful stuff.

was that Carnation?

PoseyFlump · 19/05/2022 00:25

I don't know what they were called but one of the nicest things I had as a kid were these wotsit type things coated in toffee and peanuts and tasted a bit like nutty toffee popcorn. I think they were Bobby's or a similar brand.

Tesco sell space raiders!

L0stinCyberspace · 19/05/2022 00:26

Just remembered Smash! Powdered instant "potato" that you made by adding boiling water.

Toffee cups.

Desperate Dan bars

Hyggeandhugs · 19/05/2022 00:27

Ready salted Discos 😍

FabulousKilljoys · 19/05/2022 00:29

Smash definitely still exists.

FabulousKilljoys · 19/05/2022 00:29

Smash definitely still exists.

How? Who buys it???🤔

FabulousKilljoys · 19/05/2022 00:33

Every supermarket sells Smash, I've bought it myself occasionally for a quick shepherds pie topping, and my exh lives on the stuff! You can get packets of smash type potato flakes flavoured with onions or bacon too.

skyeisthelimit · 19/05/2022 00:37

Tesco sell Smash. and cornflake bites. My local bakery still sell cornflake cakes.

poundshop.com sell those fish and chips snacks.

I used to love Instant Whip, it tasted better than Angel Delight.

tutti fruiti ice cream :(

I remember Piglets too

i used to like some square cheese flavoured crisps, called Crunch or something ? I can’t really remember but they were 10p a bag.

We used to have liver and kidneys weekly, it doesn't seem as popular now, DM used to like tripe which was vile.

suet pudding

You have just mentioned 4 of the most awful foods that have ever existed (it is no wonder that they are not popular now). My dm used to make liver, kidney and onions and also tripe. I was made to eat them. 🤮
I was always told that if I went to anyone’s house I had to eat whatever was put in front of me. One friend’s mother made suet tart, it was disgusting, I didn’t visit there ever again! 😩🤢🤮

Ameliarosethistle · 19/05/2022 00:39

McDonald's pizza from the 90s- yum!
