Or no one ever talks about them anymore.

I will offer chocolate covered cornflakes, which used to be in high street baker's windows every eater with confectionary eggs atop. A staple home economics recipe, I recall running home from school with a large tin, convinced that I was going to blow everyone's mind with my culinary genius.

And Spam. Like 'corned beef', but the pork version, also in a tin. That curious shape, reminded me of feeding the cat. My DH watches a lot of wild camping/van man stuff in Japan on youtube and it seems to be having a resurgence..

Sterilised cream in tins. Wonderful stuff.

Anybody remember the sweets that looked like small cigarettes? I think there were chocolate ones too.

Yes!! They tasted chocolatey and papery. Once you'd finished pretending to smoke with them...

puffalo · 18/05/2022 23:59

Cadbury Snaps.

My all time favourite chocolate. I still pray they come back at some point.

whatodowhattodo · 18/05/2022 23:59

Ice magic 😋 . The alternative I’ve found is not the same

And Piglets - bacon crisps in the shape of little hollow pigs.

I’ve never come across anyone else who remembers these! My mum regularly reminisces about them, but I was starting to believe they were a joint hallucination.

whatodowhattodo · 19/05/2022 00:00

And fish and chip shaped/flavoured crisps in bags with newspaper print

Babyroobs · 19/05/2022 00:00

Not a foodstuff that you buy but I was reminiscing the other day about Berni Inn's in the seventies. We used to go for a family meal there occasionally. It was all red decor, curtains etc and always dimly lit. There was a choice of about three or four mains and afterwards we would have like a black coffee in a wine glass with a layer of cream floating on the top ! It seemed so sophisticated fir us kids at the time ! Would love to visit a Berni Inn again !

Coachwork · 19/05/2022 00:01

Sarah Lee used to do a chocolate Danish dessert you cooked in the oven. My memory is probably inflating how glorious it tasted.

AiryFairyLights · 19/05/2022 00:01

Has anyone mentioned the tins of vegetable salad from Heinz? I loved that and am gutted I can’t find it anymore - making my own never tastes the same!

Pkrwbssdp · 19/05/2022 00:01

Birdseye potato fritters! They were like little discs of mash coated in batter that you then put under the grill. If I could petition for any food to come back it would be them

Pineapple creams, from a bakery, little pastry tarts, with yellow icing and green sprinkles on top… anyone?

I got some of those a while ago in one of the cheapy shops (Ireland)

pitterypattery00 · 19/05/2022 00:02

Creamola Foam!

GirlCrushxxx · 19/05/2022 00:03

@HelebethH

Royal Scot biscuits!!! Those were to die for!

TheDogsMother · 19/05/2022 00:03

I was also going to mention tinned cream. Nestle I think. Also Carnation tinned milk. Meat paste. Cling peaches (just tinned peaches so not sure what the cling bit meant). Heinz Russian salad in a tin. And tinned potato salad. I've just taken a trip around my Nana's larder 🤣

ElenaSt · 19/05/2022 00:03

I used to love those miniature Hovis brown loaves that were bread roll sized.

Quackpot · 19/05/2022 00:04

The sunny d that turned you orange!🤣

Yes to supermousse (mint and choc, swirled, frozen) and mignon morceaux.

And ice magic - you can still get stuff a bit like it (crackin?) but (1) it’s def not as good and (2) you can’t get choc mint flavour. It’s all “caramel” and “strawberry” etc.

I hadn’t noticed choc cornflake crispy cakes aren’t around much - we make them at birthdays and Easter all the time!

I miss those Knorr Touch of Taste bottles of stock concentrate. They disappeared a few years ago from the shelves and i really liked them - you’d just add a bit of what you needed without having to use a whole stock pot or cube etc.

YES, bring back the bloody stock concentrate bottles. What is wrong with people discontinuing those? Now I have packets of half opened gelatinous stock rattling around every time I just want a tiny bit more stock instead. One day they're going to join up together and form some kind of stock alien creature in my cupboard, and it'll be all Knorr's fault.

DoctorMarten · 19/05/2022 00:05

Coffee creams - like custard creams but with a delicious coffee-ish flavour.

Also: Kraft Singles - loved the taste.

Loved pineapple creams! They were a real treat in the 80s😀

Flamingosarentreal · 19/05/2022 00:07

Chelsea buns

I remember hazlet, I used to work in a deli as a teenager in the early 90s and it was popular then. I had completely forgotten about it until now!
Also, now I've remembered Brawn too! It was gelatinous & bright pink. I had to look it up to see what it was, it's a "meat jelly made from pork".

Our butcher makes/sells wonderful brawn, haslet, gala pie etc.
Not sure why people think these massively common things have "disappeared"!
