Or no one ever talks about them anymore.

I will offer chocolate covered cornflakes, which used to be in high street baker's windows every eater with confectionary eggs atop. A staple home economics recipe, I recall running home from school with a large tin, convinced that I was going to blow everyone's mind with my culinary genius.

And Spam. Like 'corned beef', but the pork version, also in a tin. That curious shape, reminded me of feeding the cat. My DH watches a lot of wild camping/van man stuff in Japan on youtube and it seems to be having a resurgence..

Banana custard as a cold school pudding.

The (private) secondary school where I worked preCovid was still serving hefty sponge puddings and custard several times a week, as one of several pudding choices. I didn’t eat the sponge, but occasionally asked for a bowl of custard and sliced a banana into it. Even better when it was chocolate custard.

I’ve not seen pink custard for ages.

Stuffed marrow was immortalised on Coronation Street as being the late Deirdre Barlow’s signature dish. It became a classic joke, I think.

Sarah Lee’s Pecan Danish - a sort of giant Danish pastry you cooked from frozen. So sweet it melted your teeth but delicious

thecurtainsofdestiny · 19/05/2022 23:11

I loved that Pecan Danish pastry!

Also miss Golden Cup chocolate. I haven't found anything like it.

And the Pancake Place restaurants. Used to be such a dilemma- savoury or sweet?

Tongue was not a highlight of my childhood. Too pink and chewy.

Aniseed balls. Probably could find them in an old fashioned sweetie shop still, but I remember eating them and invariably feeling sick.

Just about everything mentioned on this thread, except perhaps toast toppers and ice magic are still available in most supermarkets.

They're less popular and might not taste as nice as you remember, but if you want them, you can buy them.

This is so true. Most of the things mentioned are still available.

I would like to be able to buy Spangles (Old English), proper Instant Whip, not Angel Delight which was a crappy copy! Also Birds Eye Chocolate Lovely with the whipped cream piped on top!

For everyone who misses Texans. This is the closest thing I've found Bliss Bars

Rolypolyfishheads · 19/05/2022 23:29

There used to be these frozen baguettes you could get that had cheese throughout the middle of them, I haven't seen those for over 20 years now. I would love them to make a comeback, my mouth waters just thinking about them. Also Quorn chicken nuggets with cheese inside them, so good. I really miss them. They recently launched them as new in America and I am so jealous! I want them back 😂

I too mourn the Vesta beef risotto. It was my go to comfort food. I snatched up loads from B&M ten years ago but they are long gone. Savoury rice just isn't the same.

I found a forum dedicated to it but it was from 2011 so probably not posted on anymore, I suspect it was the high fat content that made it vanish as nutritional value and calories appeared on packets. I remember the orange residue the melted butter made on the plate after eating the risotto, it was so savory and kind of sweet tasting too...never found anything like it since.

ludocris · 19/05/2022 23:46

Safeways used to sell these jelly sweets (consistency of Haribos) that were shaped like orange and lemon slices. They were delicious.

Does anyone remember Unigate Hi! drinks cartons? They had a sunshine wearing sunglasses drinking through a straw. Always used to get something like 10 for £1 from the market. Raspberry, lemon and lime, orange and blackcurrant I remember

Thank you SO much for reminding me about these drinks. We used to get them from the milkman, I thought they were called hijinx until I was about 10, every day my mum would say don't forget your hi drink. Wow, such a strong flashback x

This is how I discovered my pecan allergy! So unfair, they were lovely until one closed my throat 😀

I've got 6 packs of Butterscotch Angel Delight in the cupboard, saw some for sale a couple of weeks ago and snapped them up. For me. Not sharing.

PieonaBarm
Heinz tinned puddings that you boiled in a pan of water. They were lush!
Ohhh my yes the golden syrup one was so good.

Woe betide if you didn't pierce the can as my sister forgot to do. Explosion of chocolate pud on the ceiling! 😀

Sara Lee lemon meringue
Gino ginelle ice cream tutti Frutti flavour!

AWorldWithoutDoors · 20/05/2022 08:47

You can still get the orange and lemon slices that you have at Christmas. I normally get some every year for nostalgic reasons - smaller shops often have them or I got them in Aldi one year.

newnamethanks · 20/05/2022 08:52

Jubbly, a large frozen orange drink packaged in an intriguing pyramid-shaped pack. Cut the top off and it was an enormous iced lolly affair that would last for what seemed like hours and could be passed around your friends. Hygiene? No.

Does anyone remember frozen cream? It came in a plastic bag like the bags frozen veg comes in, and was all in jagged pieces.

Yes! I've recently been looking for it, and couldn't find it anywhere. I've now taken to freezing double cream in small portions myself.

There was briefly a product called "Tasty Tatties". It was a bag of frozen potato squares, onion pieces and peas in a gorgeous coating.

Soup in little, white, rectangular boxes. All dust, just add water. French Onion was my favourite.

Kwik Save sold Wheelz Crisps (divine) and Booty Bags - the ultimate treat! A bag of lollies, Refereshers, Parma Violets and the like.

The most gorgeous stuff sold in a round tub in the freezer section. I think it was called Superwhip and was literally ICED cream. Not ice cream. Pure cream, iced.

Hazelnut Ski Yoghurts. (I loved Ski yogurts. In primary school as I used to squeeze them hard while aiming at a mate as I peeled back the lid so they'd get covered in yoghurt. Worth getting in trouble for).

@VanillaImpulse I was late to the party with pot. I now enjoy a Pot Noodle but missed out on Pot Rice AND Pot Casserole.

@Bluesparkled Pease pudding very much still exists. I buy it in Asda regularly.

Something that nobody but me remembers to the point I either dreamed it or my family played tricks on me. In some boxes of chocolates, underneath the layers, there would be a separate, flat disc of chocolate. My family said it was a balancer and they added it if the box didn't weigh enough.

The soup was Chef. When I married in the mid 70's I used to keep boxes of it to use as a base for casseroles. I also remember the chocolate disks-I think it was usually the posher brands that had it (Terry's etc)
Superwhip was synthetic though, not actual cream. It was very sweet.

@MrsSkylerWhite that cheese block in the foil was the absolute business“

you bit through the slightly brown, grilled top into the toast and the molten goo oozed out into your mouth. Ah, memories 😁

ChessieFL · 20/05/2022 10:58

@InsanityOf2020 the Jaffa cakes with cherry filling and white chocolate were called Pims. You can still get similar in France but never seen them again over here.

Does anyone remember Ketchips? They were potato croquette-type things with ketchup in the middle. Tasted great but you had to be careful not to burn your mouth (probably why they were discontinued!)

I used to love Inspirations chocolates, fruity flavours in a box with pull out drawers. They were great.

the other thing I really miss is Marks and Spencer’s tuna melt sandwich. It had tuna mayo in the middle with onions/peppers, then it had a soft cheese topping. It was delicious and I still miss it even though they stopped making it about 20 years ago. I still look every time I’m in M&S in case they’ve brought it back.

Is that the candied ones though? These weren't sugar coated, they were just like haribo gummies but in the shape of orange and lemon slices and with an almost slightly sour taste, like real citrus. There may have been grapefruit slices too.
