Or no one ever talks about them anymore.

I will offer chocolate covered cornflakes, which used to be in high street baker's windows every eater with confectionary eggs atop. A staple home economics recipe, I recall running home from school with a large tin, convinced that I was going to blow everyone's mind with my culinary genius.

And Spam. Like 'corned beef', but the pork version, also in a tin. That curious shape, reminded me of feeding the cat. My DH watches a lot of wild camping/van man stuff in Japan on youtube and it seems to be having a resurgence..

£9!!!

There might be cheaper out there.

Point was, it still exists...like the majority of things on this thread

Under a different brand and recipe. Not quite the same, but I take your point.

There was briefly a product called "Tasty Tatties". It was a bag of frozen potato squares, onion pieces and peas in a gorgeous coating.

Soup in little, white, rectangular boxes. All dust, just add water. French Onion was my favourite.

Kwik Save sold Wheelz Crisps (divine) and Booty Bags - the ultimate treat! A bag of lollies, Refereshers, Parma Violets and the like.

The most gorgeous stuff sold in a round tub in the freezer section. I think it was called Superwhip and was literally ICED cream. Not ice cream. Pure cream, iced.

Hazelnut Ski Yoghurts. (I loved Ski yogurts. In primary school as I used to squeeze them hard while aiming at a mate as I peeled back the lid so they'd get covered in yoghurt. Worth getting in trouble for).

@VanillaImpulse I was late to the party with pot. I now enjoy a Pot Noodle but missed out on Pot Rice AND Pot Casserole.

@Bluesparkled Pease pudding very much still exists. I buy it in Asda regularly.

Something that nobody but me remembers to the point I either dreamed it or my family played tricks on me. In some boxes of chocolates, underneath the layers, there would be a separate, flat disc of chocolate. My family said it was a balancer and they added it if the box didn't weigh enough.

Birds Eye used to do a frozen stir fry rice with onion, mushrooms and peas, it was in a bag. You basically tipped it in a frying pan with a bit water and moved it around until it was cooked. I lived on that stuff in the late 80s.

Also Waistline salad cream
St Ivel Gold spread
Birds Eye (?) Hot Banana Crunch Pudding
Loads of Weight Watchers things, like the little ice cream pots with toffee in

@Thisisit2022 I remember that! Every time someone got a box of chocolates they'd let me had the choccy disc if there was one in it, and I was told the same about it being to make the box weigh correctly.

You're the only person who I've ever known who remembers! I'm so glad it wasn't a made up memory!

Toffee crunch. It was a boiled sweet, in the shape of a pillow. Basically rock hard toffee. It was the most delicious thing ever. I used to buy a quarter of them every Saturday and lie on my bed reading the Little House on the Prairie books, crunching my way through the lot.

Someone on here very kindly directed me to some on an online site several years ago, but it wasn’t the same stuff, regrettably. I think Trebor Bassett used to make it.

Underroad · 19/05/2022 21:09

I remember those Booty bags! I think I only had one twice and can’t remember why - maybe I came home from a birthday party with one. They were made by Trebor weren’t they? I remember they had loads of different sweets in but particularly remember that they had Trebor Frosties in them (boiled sweets covered in really sharp sugar that cut your tongue).

I’ve just remembered Vitalite margarine in the really useful sturdy, round tubs. You never see it any more - haven’t got at least 20 years I’d say. I’ve just googled and it looks like it’s been rebranded as a dairy free spread.

FabulousKilljoys · 19/05/2022 21:16

@Thisisit2022 that's how I felt about the piglet crisps but luckily there's others on this thread who remember them haha!

hopelessbusiness · 19/05/2022 21:22

Robinson's used to do a cherry squash which I was addicted to. When I got an inkling that it was about to be discontinued I bought 20 bottles from my local Tesco. Still miss it.

StanleyTheCrane · 19/05/2022 21:27

Does anyone remember these tiny hard boiled cola sweets that you used to get in party bags along with, I think, Double Dip lollies, Lovehearts, Parma Violets and other sweets. I can't remember what they were called and it's driving me crazy.

Oo, where they round and in a little square wrapper with a tiny bit of sherbet in the middle?

WeDoNotTalktoPennilynLott · 19/05/2022 21:32

Yes! They were so good!

Subbaxeo · 19/05/2022 21:32

Vesta meals. The best was chow mien with a little sachet of soy sauce and crispy noodles which puffed up miraculously in the frying pan. I thought I was so sophisticated. And when I was a kid, one of my favourite things after Brownies was grilled cheese and milk, grilled on an enamel plate. Heaven!

Jap Cakes! They were in every bakery! Now nowhere!

If you travel to West Sussex, the bakeries in Worthing sell japs everywhere. Its the only place I see them and its a good thing that I don't visit too frequently as I have to get one every time we go!

Yes! I absolutely loved them but nearly every single time I had one I accidentally swallowed it whole - they just slipped down my throat.

MrOllivander · 19/05/2022 21:42

10 cal soups is another one I miss. The onion one was lovely

StanleyTheCrane · 19/05/2022 21:47

Yes! I absolutely loved them but nearly every single time I had one I accidentally swallowed it whole - they just slipped down my throat.

They were dangerous but delicious.

The mix also contained little clear packs of small hard boiled balls that were orange, green and red. There were 3 or 4 in a pack. I loved those too.

I won't rest until I find out what the cola sweets were called.

This is more recent but Mignon Morceaux by Philius Fogg or even better the Waitrose own brand version called garlic croutons. They were DELICIOUS crispy, oily, pungent bread snacks and I still miss them.

I had forgotten about those. They were delicious!

I loved Supermousse.

There used to be a freezer shop at the end of our road and my mum would buy frozen concentrated grapefruit juice that was in a cardboard cylinder which you would defrost and mix with water. Anyone remember that?

Are you talking about fizzy colas? The pic shows the other flavours and I think also those snall round coloured boiled sweets you mentioned. I remember they used to all stick together in the pack.

Kendodd · 19/05/2022 22:26

Topic

I can't find them anywhere.

StanleyTheCrane · 19/05/2022 22:38

Playplayaway That's them! I don't remember the other sherbert fruit sweets at all only the cola ones and I think the packaging was simpler and brown and white but it must be the same sweets. Thank you so much!

Interesting to learn that the little sweets I mentioned were called Climpies.

AnElegantChaos · 19/05/2022 22:44

Did Findus Crispy Pancakes come in a chicken curry flavour, or did I dream it?

Ski yoghurts in about a million different flavours - hazelnut and mandarin were lovely.

AnElegantChaos · 19/05/2022 22:48

@MrsSkylerWhite that cheese block in the foil was the absolute business
