The great "who-dunnit"! Whose side are you on and why?

Wrong thread! Different legal case!

Our Colleen has gone on holiday.

I think the posters who dismiss them both as spoilt children miss that human nature is the driving force behind all of this. Money doesn't change that.

Desire for privacy, the shock of betrayal, those feelings are fundamental and common to all whether they earned their money discovering a cure for the common cold or through their range of clothing.

Privacy, betrayal, justice versus injustice, ego versus acceptance.....

It could just as easily be two academics arguing about whose name went first on a paper or who two song writers claim one stole the other's idea.

Great post. People like to sneer at how trivial it all is but it isn’t really when you look at it in these terms.

Theoscargoesto · 19/05/2022 17:48

What I think interesting is that to prove a libel you have to show that the remark/publication etc was designed to lower the reputation of the person about whom it was made (or similar). So “lower the reputation” of RV (or any of them). What reputation? Just who cares, or holds any of them in such high esteem that their reputations are damaged?

Ferngreen · 19/05/2022 17:59

Apparently RV spoke to the Sun journalist as she came into court, to criticize them for printing that the Vardy's were moving to the US after the case.
Her DD was in bits - She's a bit late worrying about her DD.....

Bit hypocritical whining about possible lies being printed about her...

Well, if the Judge decides to check out Mumsnet and garner public opinion, I can confirm that my opinion of Rebekah Vardy is no worse because of what Coleen Rooney wrote about her.

I can also confirm that my opinion of her is lower since hearing evidence given under oath in the High Court.

Zippidy123 · 19/05/2022 20:35

I dont understand the situation with the PR agent . She's basically been blamed for it, the lawyer said Vardys biggest mistake was trusting her. She's been too ill to stand up in court and give her side, most of the evidence has been lost. If Vardy has stitched her up then that's absolutely appalling. She's got no way to defend herself though.

BraveryBot9to5 · 19/05/2022 20:38

What's supposed to be wrong with her? What illness would excuse you?

This case has damaged her mental health.

I can’t say I have one iota of sympathy for her, her behaviour has been unconscionable. Despicable way to make a living.

Team Rooney for all the reasons pp have said above. Can't believe Vardy actually brought the case and has put herself in this position.

Am also bored and unimpressed by the volume of 'who cares' 'they're both pointless' replies from people who 1) have presumably paused briefly from rereading Proust to lower themselves to comment, and 2) would be the first to start wailing about it if someone was selling personal info of theirs to The Sun.

Just finished the first volume of A la Recherche. But have been simultaneously riveted by the case. Team Rooney obviously.

KirkyKerk · 19/05/2022 21:57

Well, the cynic in me thinks that citing mental health problems is a tad too convenient. It's unprovable, much like the 'oops' of chucking a phone in the fucking sea. I hope they throw out the case or do her for destruction of evidence/perverting justice!

PortiaFimbriata · 19/05/2022 22:17

I've got to say, if I were thinking of a work of literature which would display a complete absence of a prurient interest in gossip about extremely flawed people then Proust would not be my first choice. Marcel would be fucking glued to this case.

It isn’t unprovable, she will have had to provide a letter from a psychiatrist.

I can believe she is suicidal given that details of her appalling conduct has been made very public. Not the image she planned to be famous for, I’m sure.

One can but hope she takes this opportunity to turn her back on profiting from making misery and takes up useful work.

RV has thrown her agent under the bus then is blaming the stress of her case for agents mental health problems. I'm pretty sure the agent either thought she was acting under RV instruction or WAS acting under RV instruction. I have no doubt that agent is struggling but RV has either made it much worse for her, or has told her to stay away. Agent's problems lie at RV door.

jay55 · 20/05/2022 13:37

I imagine the agent has lost her livelihood. No one will want to be repped by someone who doesn't respect privacy. And I suppose the Vardys will have to distance themselves too.
I hope they paid her off properly for losing the evidence.

AngeloMysterioso · 20/05/2022 14:12

If CW was acting under RV’s orders (which from the text messages we’ve heard about it certainly appears that she was, or at the very least with her knowledge and consent) then why not say so? She’s just allowing herself to be RV’s fall guy this way and effectively ending her own career. All she’d have to do is testify that RV knew all about it and/or told her to leak the stories and/or asked her to conceal evidence.

LadyEloise1 · 20/05/2022 15:59

When is a verdict expected?

EmeraldShamrock1 · 21/05/2022 19:57

Waiting patiently on the verdict.

What was RV or the legal advisers thinking bringing the case to begin with.

She is finished.

kirinm · 21/05/2022 20:06

I assume judgment has been reserved - judge has 3 months to hand it down so it could be a while.

PlinkyPlonkyPurple · 29/07/2022 06:03

Judgement due at noon today

ComDummings · 29/07/2022 07:17

Hope Rooney wins. Even if Vardy wins - due to the fact she threw her agent under the bus - nobody will ever trust her again. She was a fool to bring this case.

PlinkyPlonkyPurple · 29/07/2022 08:06

Agreed, I'm Team Rooney too, for all the 'accidental losses' of data & evidence as well.

I get the whole protection of journalist sources, but don't think it should apply in cases like this where it was feeding gossip to media.

TheDivineOddity · 29/07/2022 08:54

Whatever the verdict Coleen is the only one who will come out of this looking good.
