DCs have been told a nuclear attack is imminent

By their 'D'F. I've name changed for obvious reasons.
Is it imminent? ExH thinks so. He hasn't told me but according to DS (6th form student) he has planned to send the DCs to the other side of the world !we are in the UK) to avoid the radiation fallout of a nuclear attack.
It came to light after I overheard a phone conversation/argument between DS & ex H.
I think there are many flaws in the exH plan, DS thinks his DF has gone mad.
Does anyone else know of others making nuclear war plans?

How is that actually going to happen. We’ll all be dust before you can get on a plane😳

LeeMucklowesCurtains · 11/05/2022 22:48

Well, unless he plans to teleport them to New Zealand, his plan is a bit shit.

What’s he thinking will happen - a weeks notice?

Foolsrule · 11/05/2022 22:51

Don’t be daft! If the end comes, so it does. In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy myself going about my everyday life!

ICanSmellSummerComing · 11/05/2022 22:51

I guess it depends on what your ex does for a living?if he's a car mechanic fhen I'd take the imminently threat with a large pinch of salt.

If he's in military intelligence I might start to pack bag's...

RedChina · 11/05/2022 22:51

Yes, that's what I thought. But ex H is serious, he's made plans. Passport applications, citizenship for the DCs for his adopted country.

I'm with your DS.

On a more serious note, are your children safe with him? He sounds delusional

Trafficblight · 11/05/2022 22:53

It sounds like he needs help, I'd be hesitant to have the children around him when he's spouting that nonsense.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 11/05/2022 22:54

Has he shown other paranoid behaviour in the past? Of course an attack can't be ruled out, but his reaction is quite extreme. And he's just assumed he can do this without consulting them or you?

Windbeneathmybingowings · 11/05/2022 22:55

He’s ridiculous. Mostly because the London Underground offers about the same protection as a nuclear bunker and it’s the price of an Oyster card, let alone passport applications and flights.

hope he’s paid for fast track! Hahahahaha

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 11/05/2022 22:55

I guarantee that if word got out that a nuclear bomb was going to hit, every road would be traffic jammed and no one would be allowed on flights, so unless he has a super secret source who would be able to give him a heads up several days before it became public knowledge he'd have no chance of enacting that plan.

I don't believe a nuclear attack is in the offing by the way, but human nature means that people wouldn't be able to resist panicking and fleeing. Just look back to what happened in supermarkets when word got out that supplies of loo roll might be limited.

SatsumaLover · 11/05/2022 22:56

How would he be able to predict what countries would remain unaffected ?
i can understand his anxiety but you can’t plan for that sort of thing

SatsumaLover · 11/05/2022 22:59

Depending on where you live in the U.K. if it’s not a major city, military area or near something that would be a target he could always get busy making a diy bunker ?
if the worst doesn’t happen change the plans to a swimming pool ?

Wednesdayafternoon · 11/05/2022 22:59

How can he just move your children away to another country?! I don't get it have I missed something?!?!

Knifer · 11/05/2022 23:00

Well. Does your Ex work for military intelligence, is he high up in the government or is he a Russian double agent? If he's any of these, maybe feel a bit inclined to listen to his spiel. If he's a roofer or a driver or a financial advisor or a carphone warehouse manager or similar, nod and smile and call his parents to inform them he needs to see a mental health professional before you'll let the kids round as his chosen topics are anxiety provoking and batshit.

puddlesofmothers · 11/05/2022 23:00

Tell him to run towards the mushroom cloud not away.

RedChina · 11/05/2022 23:04

It's only just come to light after over hearing the argument. Ex H wants to fly to another country to get DSs passport approved within the next couple of days. DS has teenage stuff to do, course work, part time job, friends to see. His DF has offered to reimburse the money he would lose if he doesn't work at the weekend.

jackstini · 11/05/2022 23:06

Am presuming OP means he plans to send them away in the next few days/weeks to preempt any attack, not to wait for the 4 minute warning then try and drive to Heathrow...

That's really scary OP. What's the deal with access and do you think he actually plans to move them without your permission?

SatsumaLover · 11/05/2022 23:07

This does sound concerning OP - either he is having a breakdown or he knows something?

Is he a citizen from another country so has dual passports and wants same for kids? He sounds more dangerous than the threat of nuclear war. I would worry about his impressions on the children.

Dinoteeth · 11/05/2022 23:09

Actually if sounds more like he's trying to persuade kids to move country for his own reason rather than genuinely believing in nuclear attack.

What country is it?

Just don't let them go to Russia because it'll be a smouldering wasteland by the time NATO have finished 😊

Perhaps Tristan da Cunha?

He's not planning on going with the DCs, he will stay in the UK. I asked DS what the rest of his family are going to do, if they are planning to flee etc he said his uncle will probably just get on with work but his DGM (in her 90s) keeps asking what's happening, what can she do, after hearing all the BS.
Ex is not military. I have an ex who is ex military, he's more bothered about next doors poodle who keeps shitting in his garden.
