I have just found out that the "sticky backed plastic" on Blue Peter was actually "sellotape" but they werent allowed to advertise it. How did I not know this?🤔

Another 9 times tables one: the numbers on the left go up and on the right go down 1 digit at a time. I was useless at times tables but the 9s are a doddle!

Really, where is it? (Thats amazing..)

I have only seen it on the tesco pumps near me.

AbsolutelyLoveIy · 11/05/2022 23:27

The percentages thing has
blown my mind!

I can’t wait to share this gem with my kids, one of whom has a maths exam next week 🙌

Pegasaurus · 11/05/2022 23:28

That petrol pumps have a setting where you can tell it to give you a specific amount in £ or L and it will stop on that exact amount. No need for the £40.01, you can go bang on

What??? Where at, how does it work @jessieminto?

SpookyActionAtADistance · 11/05/2022 23:31

The Earth's orbit is elliptical, so it does move away and towards the sun, this isn't what affects the seasons though.

The sun also moves, the solar system is slowly orbiting around the galaxy.

BoredZelda · 11/05/2022 23:31

@EleanorRavenclaw
The SOS call Mayday is French m’aidez - help
me. Obvious when you know but had no idea until recently.

Oh yeah, so it is!

All the the answers to the 9X table add up to 9

@Puffalicious also, the numbers up to 5 are reversed after 5.

09, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90

@jessieminto, some do, but not all. I’ve seen them at Tesco, but not at our BP garage.

That bras have 3 sets of hooks to allow for stretch over time. So you should always buy one that fits on the loosest hook and once you have got to the tightest one you need a new bra. Why did I never know this!?

@brightenmynorthernsky1, whenever I’ve had a bra fitting, they always say to put it on the middle hook.

Couldn't get on with Blue Peter and the do-gooders winning badges etc.

@mackthepony, my daughter has about 8 of them. Most aren’t that hard to get, just post in a drawing, or answer a questionnaire and send pictures of you doing stuff. The Gold Badge it her goal, you get it for saving someone’s life. I’m careful around stairs when she’s about 😆

I meant that they were grown at ground height, I know it's an actual bush, but I assumed (prob never thought about it) that they grew like bananas high up in a palm like tree!

Cook & Line from Swashbuckle are a married couple in real life.

What???!! No way!

tootiredtoocare · 11/05/2022 23:34

Don't let anyone kid you there are 16 lakes in the (British) Lake District. There's only ONE.

Bassenthwaite Lake.

The other 15 are waters or meres, (plus there are a few tarns that nobody talks about).

The majority of the world's population has more than the average (mean) number of limbs.

So obvious when you think about it...

Tim going to need this explained

girasol · 11/05/2022 23:43

That other than subsaharan Africans, every single human being alive today is descended from the same woman, who crossed from Africa into Europe however many hundreds of thousands of years ago.
It was on an Andrew Marr programme. Mind, as they say, blown.

girasol · 11/05/2022 23:44

If had this come up on 2 different pub quizzes, in one they said the answer was one as per your explanation but the other they claimed the right answer included all the Waters etc!

girasol · 11/05/2022 23:45

Sorry that last comment was in response to the inner of lakes in the Lake District

girasol · 11/05/2022 23:46

*number dammit! Time for bed.

carbay · 11/05/2022 23:46

When heating something in the microwave, putting it on a plate refers to the glass plate that's already there.

FGSWhatNow · 11/05/2022 23:47

Whaaaaaat?

FGSWhatNow · 11/05/2022 23:49

Sorry, my "whaaaat" was supposed to be in reply the revelation that Bluey is a girl, but it could equally apply to many other things in this thread!

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 11/05/2022 23:50

That you are never breathing equally out of both nostrils at the same time. They take turns 😯 being the dominant one.

I always thought this was because bra sizes go up in increments of 2”. So the three hooks would accommodate if you actually measure at 31” or 33” etc

Dita73 · 11/05/2022 23:57

Found this out last week and it floored me!

Things you have just found out that have blown your mind.
Furries · 12/05/2022 00:03

Fairly recent fun facts for me were:

Wombat poo is cube-shaped
Owls have long skinny legs. Not sure why this never occurred to be before, given that they’re hunters!

Read this on a similar thread a while ago -

John Tyler, the 10th US President, was born in 1790. One of his grandsons (Harrison Ruffin Tyler) is still alive.

That's a great one. I had to look at Wikipedia to check that. All stacks up.

Correct. On average people have less than two legs and less than two arms.

No one has more than two so you can't make up the difference for people with one or no limbs.
