I have just found out that the "sticky backed plastic" on Blue Peter was actually "sellotape" but they werent allowed to advertise it. How did I not know this?🤔

I have just learned from my 10 yr old daughter the the bigger emery board you get (not the small disposable ones) have layers that peel off to reveal a fresh emery board underneath. I can't believe I got to 42 without knowing this, especially as I worked out about a year ago lint rollers are the same. I always thought they were such a waste of money!!!

Actually talking of lint rollers - ha! I also only recently discovered this! - how in the heck does one store them without them sticking to everything? Confused

Couldn't get on with Blue Peter and the do-gooders winning badges etc. Liked Art Attack though

Also the viewer's gallery on that art programme with Tony Heart I think it was? Lovely doddery music, very calming.

Love threads like this Grin

At some point, you will pick up your child without knowing that it's the last time you will ever pick them up.

This thread is killing me! First Iggle Piggle and now this 😢

Found this out last week and it floored me!

Holy crap Shock

Meh2020 gosh yes. Sometimes if I'm hormonal and happen to hear the start of the music I feel quite emotional, I miss those evenings and bath times when DD was so tiny. It's so precious but you only realise when it's gone Sad

Safe to say, I will be sleeping with the light on tonight, after seeing those post boxes 😬

Is funny seeing the comments about Iggle Piggle. I read a theory that him floating away in the boat is him actually dying, and that what happens in the lead up to that is a dying hallucination.

Noooooo!

I have two.

  1. If you feel the gap between your thumb and index finger on your dominant hand really carefully, you’ll feel a tiny finger embedded under the skin. Millions of years ago, humans had six fingers and this is an evolutionary throw back. It even has a teeny tiny nail.

  2. Lots of people believe what they read on the internet and you’ve been feeling your hand looking for an imaginary finger.
    Ha ha.
    Losers.

Now that's naughty.

I didn't do it obviously.

What always blows my mind is the number of people on these threads who have astonishing levels of ignorance and are proud to admit it.

Hmm

Where do they come from then ? Maybe have a quick Google.

They grow on a plant that comes out of the ground. You don't dig them out of the ground like a potato...

This is my first thread that has ever been "trending" (mind blown again 😋😆)

To be fair OP it's a good 'un.

Despite the Clever Twats plopping on to tell us how superior they are Wink

And also, your reply to her was really passive aggressive to try to make her feel bad about asking to bring someone you don’t deem worthy of being there yet. She’s clearly excited about a new relationship. Your were quite mean. Particularly waiting extra long to reply. I would have said something like “I’m so glad things are going well with boyfriend! We look forward to meeting him soon, but I’m so sorry: we’ve looked at the table plans and budget and just can’t accommodate him for the meal. Would he like to come to the reception? Or we can meet for a drink in a few weeks when we’re back from honeymoon? Looking forward to seeing you for our knees up soon x”

Wrong thread @MelroseGrainger . I think you were on the CF Wedding one.

HazelBite · 12/05/2022 09:44

Just to let you all know, if you bought your "Fablon" from Woolworths it was called "Contact" (slightly inferior but cheaper product)
I am indeed old enough to remember this useless info!

When I told a friend of mine that dandelion clocks - the fluffy white weed that you blow bits off - are actually yellow dandelions that have gone to seed, her mind was blown. She thought they were two different plants. She was in her 60s at the time.

This is sweet. It has reminded me that my mum thought (until very recently - her early sixties) that slugs were just snails whose shells had been crushed and they were slithering around trying to find an empty shell to inhabit. I did feel a bit bad to burst that bubble 😕

That oysters are alive when people eat them?! 🤯

Only the raw ones! The cooked ones are proper brown bread.

turquoisebaby · 12/05/2022 10:04

@Traumdeuter Did you ever realise that the opening song to Bluey is them actually playing musical statues? Took me a while to figure that one out.

declutteringmymind · 11/05/2022 12:56

That percentages can be inversed. So 68% of 50 is the same as 50% of 68. DS came home with that last week.

It's to do with BODMAS, we've not had that for a while!
68/100X50 and 50/100x68 are the same because the two operations are interchangeable!!

I sort of discovered this...if you put things slightly off centre in the microwave they don't cook as well. They need to be in the centre (gasp). Life changed. Obviously that's probably in the instruction manual.

Thars quite the opposite of most instruction manuals. Most will tell you to place food around the outside of the plate.for a hotter, even cook.

Mind was blown when I realised that the word wasn't tenderhooks but was tenterhooks.
In my mind a person was said to be on tender hooks as in ' tender ' and therefore fragile . It made sense to me .

It comes from the taxtile industry, tenter hooks were used to stretch fabric I think.

I had no idea, 🤯

Many of Daphne's expressions are like her mother's when she was younger.

That Igglepiggle is forever doomed to sail across the ocean in his little boat and only when he sleeps and dreams does he see his friends, otherwise he is all alone for all eternity.
I may or may not have cried more than a little bit when I clocked this…

I always assumed he was dead/dying and these were his deathbed hallucinations or the afterlife.

Maybe I'm morbid.

I pick my heavy 5 year old up all the time because of this :)

TheMullerLightOwl · 12/05/2022 10:22

I always assumed the Iggle Piggle boat was him sailing off to his dreams (like the boat that takes you to Hushabye mountain in chitty chitty chitty bang bang) - that he was actually in bed but slowly sailing off to the land of dreams
