I have just found out that the "sticky backed plastic" on Blue Peter was actually "sellotape" but they werent allowed to advertise it. How did I not know this?🤔

POST BOXES HAVE F**KING ROOTS.

Always just thought they were attached at ground level.

Back off a bit, eh. The post you quote actually says 'it’s just its tilt etc'.

That it's the pole that spins, and not the dancer 🤯

Sultanas = a bit dry
Raisins = medium dry
currants = very dry

They're usually made from different varieties of grapes.

That when a baby joins it’s hands above their head, arms fully extended there’s no gap but when an adult does there’s a massive gap 😂 so strange 🤣

A Penguin bar is just a bourbon biscuit covered in chocolate.

Life ruined.

I have only seen it on the tesco pumps near me.

Sainsburys do it near me, it goes super slow when you get near the end though. I've used it twice and regretted my choice.

Whatttttt!!! I love those guys

Lazydazey · 12/05/2022 08:26

Stonehenge hasn’t miraculously looked as it does for thousands of years .. was ‘restored’ / rebuilt several times last century using cranes, concrete etc. Google the pictures or read here www.newscientist.com/article/dn310-concrete-evidence/

The tune to the alphabet song, Baa Baa Black Sheep, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, are the all the same.

No they're not! Similar but distinctly different. It easy to start one and end up finishing with the other though.

Trixiefirecracker · 12/05/2022 08:28

Kangaroos have three vaginas…

MistySkiesAreGone · 12/05/2022 08:31

I sort of discovered this...if you put things slightly off centre in the microwave they don't cook as well. They need to be in the centre (gasp). Life changed. Obviously that's probably in the instruction manual.

GreendaleFive · 12/05/2022 08:33

brightenmynorthernsky1 · 12/05/2022 07:57

Flake chocolate bars won’t melt…even in the microwave!

I made it right up to this point without being particularly surprised by anything on this thread (not to say I knew all the facts mentioned - I didn't know the specific ages involved with the 10th president's grandson etc. - but I knew most and the others didn't shock me or I knew they were bullshit).

But this!! This has shaken me to my very core 😆I was convinced it wasn't true and went off to Google...

Well, don't I feel like a right wally now!

Really, I once launched myself at a pole and it was pretty rigid, I landed like a sack of spuds on the floor. Not my finest moment.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 12/05/2022 08:39

Oh and the fact that some stars you can see don't exist anymore!
Now that's just blown my mind! Fascinated by this type of stuff.

Sticky backed plastic was actually Fablon and was very cheap usually patterned plastic on a roll or sheets, which was used for covering kitchen cupboards, tables etc. Sticky tape is the the brand name for Sellotape.

MoonKnight · 12/05/2022 08:42

I’ve only just found out that you don’t need to type the ‘www’ when accessing a website anymore 😬

l can’t get my head round this. I just can’t. I swear Penguins are broader than bourbons.

The phrase ‘on tenterhooks’ comes from a stenter frame. A stenter frame has lots of tiny hooks down the edges and is used to stretch fabric on in production. For those who sew, that’s what the little holes down the sell edge are.

So somehow the word stenter hooks changed to tenterhooks.

That's not true - in my younger clubbing day and pissed up there'd sometimes be a pole to have a go on whilst dancing (think Flares or Reflex 70s /80s type bars) and they definitely do not move! 😁
They're rigid and the only way you can spin is if you're talented on there and can climb or twist round it, unlike me who'd just kind of twirl and loiter at the bottom of it lol

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 12/05/2022 08:46

This is my first thread that has ever been "trending" (mind blown again 😋😆)

Some professional poles have a spin and static option though.

Tenter hooks are the hooks that hold the fabric in place on the frame.

@ememem84 You've got a dick between your thumb and index finger? 🤔😮

Only on his birthday

WhenDovesFly · 12/05/2022 09:18

When I told a friend of mine that dandelion clocks - the fluffy white weed that you blow bits off - are actually yellow dandelions that have gone to seed, her mind was blown. She thought they were two different plants. She was in her 60s at the time.

MelroseGrainger · 12/05/2022 09:20

And also, your reply to her was really passive aggressive to try to make her feel bad about asking to bring someone you don’t deem worthy of being there yet. She’s clearly excited about a new relationship. Your were quite mean. Particularly waiting extra long to reply. I would have said something like “I’m so glad things are going well with boyfriend! We look forward to meeting him soon, but I’m so sorry: we’ve looked at the table plans and budget and just can’t accommodate him for the meal. Would he like to come to the reception? Or we can meet for a drink in a few weeks when we’re back from honeymoon? Looking forward to seeing you for our knees up soon x”
