WEIRD PHOBIAS

I want to hear them....not your run of the mill dentists, spiders, heights, clowns, etc

The weird ones...

KETCHUP...otherwise known as "Mortuusequusphobia"

Began with the crust that forms on the top of a bottle...absolutely turns my stomach. Don't particularly like crusts on anything (old hand creams, mayonnaise etc) but ketchup really tops them all. The smell, the sight. My husband kindly moves any bottles away from tables at cafes/restaurants 😂

Don't get me started on those sachets that have the potential to burst/explode if pressure were to be exerted on one!!

Eating sounds. Breathing sounds. 🤮 thankfully I find them cute on my DD but DH has to leave the room or face the other way doing either. 8 years in and he's still not learnt NOT to get a snack and wander over to me to take the first bite of it 🤮🤬

SkerryVore · 09/05/2022 23:28

Any kind of machinery submersed in a body of water. Nightmarish.

Same.

Disneydatknee88 · 09/05/2022 23:36

I know someone who is afraid of blu tac. He doesn't know why either but it terrifies him!

whoami24601 · 09/05/2022 23:43

Another one who has issues with wooden cutlery. Paper straws are awful! People colouring with blunt pencils (I work in a primary school fgs!). I can taste if someone uses a wooden stirrer in my drink in a cafe 🤢 I know they're better for the environment but god I miss plastic shit!

franke · 09/05/2022 23:47

Oh yes, balloons for all the reasons stated by pp.

Also men's pyjamas <shudder>

CockapooMum · 09/05/2022 23:51

Cream you put on your skin. I don't wear make up or do any extra skin care. I used to have excema as a child and still remember my sister chasing me shouting cream on your bum! I used to have to resort to taking my eldest to my mums 2 mins away when he needed sudocrem on whilst my husband worked. It makes me feel physically sick and I shake and I just can't do it!

Teawithmilknosugar · 09/05/2022 22:20

Earwigs, I'm fine with all other insects and spiders (so long as they aren't the size of a small mouse) but earwigs make my skin crawl.

100% with you on this one. I have to leave a room and go all sweaty and itchy if there is one around

Justleaveitblankthen · 09/05/2022 23:56

Full beards. I love stubble, always found it a real turn on, but a full face, full length beard horrifies me. I also hate goatees - not a phobia as such, but I concentrate only on looking at the top half of their face if they have one.
Underarm hair on both sexes is also grim.

Also, the feel of a very thick plait in the palm of my hands makes me feel slightly dizzy. If I plaited a dolls hair as a child and gripped it with the palm of my hand, I felt like I would faint Confused

weegiemum · 10/05/2022 00:08

Small things that shouldn't be small.

So cherry tomatoes, baby corn, new potatoes, babybels ....

GiraffeInTheSky · 10/05/2022 00:15

Tryphphobia is my main problem.

Don't google it.

GiraffeInTheSky · 10/05/2022 00:16

Trypophobia!

TheWayoftheLeaf · 10/05/2022 00:22

Escalators. Always think I'm going to faint and crash down one and die.

WafflesOrIceCream · 10/05/2022 00:43

The feeling of bobbles on clothes or any other fabric!I have to throw anything away if it gets bobbles on it.

TheQuern · 10/05/2022 00:46

These are fascinating!

@weegiemum, what about toy dogs? Bonsai? Small skeins of wool?

AuntTwacky · 10/05/2022 00:52

Me too... especially the really steep long ones in tube stations

Selok · 10/05/2022 00:58

Buttons and coins. I don't have button box at home, don't have anything buttons on it- managed this whole my life

DeeCeeCherry · 10/05/2022 01:11

Bears. Yet Ive never seen a real bear in my life. I get hot and anxious when I see them on TV.

Especially when they're in adverts I think NO you are not cute and cuddly. You're huge, tall with big paws long nails and you growl. I dont even like Pandas.

Apparently in Canada some bears have evolved into being able to open car doors...

I also dont like balloons. They bob silently across the ceiling its un-nerving

Littleroundsponge · 10/05/2022 01:25

Macarons - no idea why!

Jenasaurus · 10/05/2022 01:27

Toilets

mackthepony · 10/05/2022 01:40

A park we go to has this weird soft spongy floor so kids don't hurt themselves when they fall. It's like waterproof cotton wool basically.

Absolutely awful

How did evolutionary changes provide currenr generations of bears with the ability to open car doors? 😆 Would have thought if that is a thing it wiuld be more a learned skill passed on rather than something genetic! Can you link to studies about this "evolution"?

QuotetheLaw · 10/05/2022 04:09

Feet...can't stand them. I don't mind my own but if anyone else shoves their feet near me, I just can't. And also when my DH cuts his toenails Confused

Simonjt · 10/05/2022 04:18

Long fingernails, if there is any white showing at all I imagine them touching me and it makes
me feel sick. I cut my husbands fingernails everyday, when he had surgery they got quite long as the nurses didn’t cut them. Even after I’d cut them I felt a bit ill when I saw his hands for quite a few days after.

DeeCeeCherry · 10/05/2022 04:20

GiraffeInTheSky

I meant they learned how to, didn't even realised I wrote evolution...! Its just forum chat I wasnt applying deep thought typing on my phone
