But the Patel cartoon was not made by a fellow MP. The slurs against Rayner were.

Both things were published in mainstream newspapers by misogynistic men.

Roussette · 26/04/2022 11:53

yet when there's some anonymous drivel in the MoS (that no one reads) everyone's clutching their pearls

If only this were true, we're in the state we're in, because too many do read it.

Janiie if you were to just criticise it straight off, without all the whatabouttery, I would take you a lot more seriously. And it wasn't just about what she wore or crossing and uncrossing her legs, there was a horrible stench of oxford elite and BJ's debating skills and her lack of. The article actually insinuated that all she had was her legs.

I take my hat off to the Defence Minister James Heappey interviewed on BBC News this morning. He was far more outraged than you Janiie. He was brilliant in what he said.... 'every day I just got up and put on a dark suit and do my job. Women in parliament have to put up with this crap and it's disgusting and Angela didn't deserve it' (or words to that effect)

I don't need any lectures from you jj about unpleasant sexist comments, given the insults about appearance that you have aimed at Rayner in the past.

SueSaid · 26/04/2022 12:03

'He was far more outraged than you'

Oh I'm outraged when anyone is personally attacked! As I said Patel's cartoon, the continious sexisy crap aimed at Dorries (see upthread) or Truss on these threads. MPs calling each other names, they all need to debate without insults and sneers.

But let's stop pretending Angela is the first to experience any unpleasant attacks or sexist slurs. She should lead by example and stop with her tedious name calling for starters.

ClaudineClare · 26/04/2022 12:05

Oh and in case you report me for saying something untrue, you referred to Rayner's "Lily Savage hair." I can't remember when but MNHQ would be able to find it.

Peregrina · 26/04/2022 12:08

Just think of what Diane Abbott has had to put up with. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't remember your commenting on that JaniiJones.

Roussette · 26/04/2022 12:08

Janiie

I rest my case

Where has anyone said this is the first attack or sexist slur on a female politician?
They haven't.

Perhaps our PM should be the one to take the lead on this? His own boorish, ignorant behaviour has done nothing to enhance the credibility of Parliament, and disgraces his Party. Except the half way decent ones got chased out of the Party.

Well said.

Wow, respect! You should change your user name to Miss Marple!

Cornettoninja · 26/04/2022 12:55

@Blossomtoes My googlefu is strong(ish) 🙃

SpindleInTheWind · 26/04/2022 12:58

Top sleuthing. Respect.

ClaudineClare · 26/04/2022 12:58

Who need the (now defunct) advanced search function when you have @Cornettoninja's googling skills!

Yes it is the second one that I remembered.

I think Angela has lovely hair, btw!

Cornettoninja · 26/04/2022 13:03

As an aside if anyone is in on an iPhone - if you want to search a webpage for a particular word you can use the address bar. Type the word you’re looking for and then you should be able to select ‘on this page’. It’s the same function as ctrl+f on Microsoft word, xl etc.

ancientgran · 26/04/2022 13:03

Angela Rayner does have beautiful hair. I think some people might be suffering from the green eyed monster.

Well, as I said in the c&p'd quotes as Bozo's hair is often commented on I presumed hairstyles were acceptable things to critique?

However that is a bit different to commenting on the sexist claptrap in the MoS and then suggesting Dorries would like BJ to undo his flies, no?

Cornettoninja · 26/04/2022 14:13

@JaniieJones pick a stance, are personal comments ok or not? Never mind the content, they either are or aren’t, anything else makes you a hypocrite, especially when you yourself have partook in commenting on the person rather than what they’re saying.

You’re presenting a selection of comments from various individuals as a general view. If you’ve got an issue with it take it up with that person rather than subjecting the whole thread to you treating them like they’re one entity in a witness box and you’re a crime drama barrister.

Cornettoninja · 26/04/2022 14:31

@JaniieJones to add as an afterthought, how come it’s okay for you to see others doing it and join in and not others? The nadine/Boris crush line wasn’t born on MN. It’s a pretty consistent trope around the internet and beyond.

SueSaid · 26/04/2022 14:38

'The nadine/Boris crush line wasn’t born on MN. It’s a pretty consistent trope around the internet and beyond'

So if something is a consistent 'trope around the Internet and beyond' it is ok to laugh along with it? Again, I'm all for criticising folk but we can't say the MoS's anonymous Labour shit stirrer was horribly sexist then join in the sexist Dorries slurs can we?

Cornettoninja · 26/04/2022 14:41

you tell me. That was your defence about your comments of Rayners hair 🤷‍♀️

Fulmine · 26/04/2022 14:42

I know it's disgusting isn't it, the abuse women in politics put up with!

We had widespread mocking of Truss and her hat/selfies or infact everytime she opens her mouth. We have Dorries getting widespread abuse yet when aimed at Angela everyone says it must stop.

Not sure if you've noticed,* *@JaniieJones, but it's not as if the male Tory cabinet members have exactly been getting off lightly round here.

How do you know it was a Labour shit stirrer? Who was it and have you let Johnson know?

ClaudineClare · 26/04/2022 14:49

Suggesting someone might have a bit of a thing for someone else is not sexist, btw.

SueSaid · 26/04/2022 14:55

'That was your defence about your comments of Rayners hair'

No, my defence wasn't 'well her hair is a trope mocked widely on the Internet and beyond' rather Bozo's hair is analysed daily on here so I thought why not.

You're right though. I should practise what I preach and scrutinise her comments rather than her hair do. I saw a clip on Twitter from 'Lorraine' when she says how intimidated she felt in the HOC. Wonder why she called the Tories all racist, homophobic scum repeatedly! I mean it doesn't suggest someone who wants pleasantries and mutual respect does it?
