@derxa - I agree. Interesting times though.

ClaudineClare · 06/05/2022 16:05

The SNP's price for this is another Independence referendum. The clue is in the name SNP. They won't want to be Labour's poodle

That would be fair enough, given that by 2024 it will have been a decade since indy ref1.

A decade isn't a 'generation'

ClaudineClare · 06/05/2022 16:08

From the Guardian

Scottish Labour is set to become the closest challenger to Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish National party after Conservative support plunged to its worst electoral result in a decade, Severin Carrell and Libby Brooks report

Labour enjoyed an unexpected win in SNP-controlled West Dunbartonshire, taking overall control of the council, as it won a swathe of seats across Scotland’s 32 councils and made unexpected gains, putting it on course to take the second largest share of the vote

The results triggered sharp recriminations amongst the Scottish Tories, who found themselves relegated to third after voters punished them over the Partygate crisis by abstaining from the elections or switching support to Labour and the Liberal Democrats

I didn't say it was 'a generation'. I was just agreeing with what you said and sharing what I think about it.

I think Keir will have to resign now. What a Wally! If he hadn’t been so sanctimonious about cake he could brush it off but he called for both Rishi and Boris to resign for pretty much the same thing so he’s led himself up a cul-de-sac. Raynor too.
I honestly think the labour leadership have a terrible political antennae and this confirms it.
apparently Lisa nandy was trying to argue against going hard on party gate as it could backfire. Should have listened to her!

ClaudineClare · 06/05/2022 16:14

I think Scotland will eventually gain independence. Wales too in time. A united Ireland is on the horizon too.

Let's wait for the outcome of the investigation, shall we?

Meanwhile, watching the Tories implode is fabulous entertainment.

Yes, well someone had to provide the laughs this afternoon, thank you for that.

The rules were very different during Cakegate and Beergate. Why will he have to resign if, as he says, what happened was in line with the rules at that time?

ClaudineClare · 06/05/2022 16:19

BTW it is Rayner.

That is Boris' aim. The start of the recovery of Labour in Scotland in this election might slow or put a stop to that, if Labour can gain momentum as the main opposition to the SNP.

I don't think you can stop it single handedly Derxa!

I am Welsh and never really been a supporter of independence, but I have begun to change my mind after the last three years or so. I bet there are lots of people like me.

Best start voting Labour then.

We used to hear a lot about the 'Will of the people'. So if SNP won a Referendum, it would be interesting.......

Who knows? I never thought I would see Communism collapse or apartheid end in South Africa, but they did.

My old head once said we would bring in polo shirts 'over his dead body'. We brought them in. He is still very much alive annoyingly

Why do you want to inflict independence on us? Please explain

Piggywaspushed · 06/05/2022 16:48

I didn't say I did! I was just musing over people who say hyperbolic things when these things may come to pass!

Peregrina · 06/05/2022 16:50

Why should Scotland wish for Independence - to boot out the Tories once and for all.

That's what you want. Half of Scots on current polling want the Union to remain. Look at the nightmare of Brexit. Independence for Scotland would be x19 worse.

Exactly!

A year makes a huge difference, and whenever I have brought this up on here or Twitter, there is no answer. I honestly think some Tories cannot get their heads round the timings. The fact it was all very scary in May 2020, lockdowns were fierce, there were no vaccinations, very many who caught covid got it horribly and some ended up on respirators...
Then we have beergate, a year later, a different set of rules and vaccines rolled out.

There's a huge difference in a year and the 17 parties happened prior to 'beergate'

But Scotland booting out the Tories and perhaps becoming Independent won't help me in southern England. We could be stuck with a one party state forever, which such stunning successful politicians as Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Patel, Raab, Dorries and others of equal mediocrity.

We are going to have to get rid of them by our own efforts. But as I said, who knows?

Roussette · 06/05/2022 17:03

derxa your favourite man Ian Blackford is being interviewed on BBC News channel as I type Grin
