From the BBC

From midday, we're expecting to get the first results from Scotland and Wales - and from the handful of mayoral contests that are happening in England
By late afternoon or early evening, full results in Scotland and Wales are expected
By 20:00, we hope to have all council results from England
Around 02:00 on Saturday morning, we're expecting full results from Northern Ireland. But if things overrun beyond this point, the count will pick up again from 09:00

Gulp.

Sir Roger Gale to @LBC: “I’ve heard rumours the PM might try and put in letters to trigger a vote of no confidence now, in the hope of winning it, rather than leaving it for a weeks and finding he might lose.

“That would be a very high risk strategy but it could happen.”

Worth a quick read

The Sue Gray report must be really bad, he is desperately clinging on to his gold wallpaper.

ClaudineClare · 06/05/2022 11:04

Tory HQ seems subdued today.

Peregrina · 06/05/2022 11:31

Apparently Labour doing well in London does not bode well for future success according to one Tory.

Oliver Dowden thinks Johnson should carry on because he's a bold leader!

V poor results for the Conservatives across Scotland. Lots of seats to count in each of these areas but big swings away from Conservatives in each, different parties benefitting.

A shift from Con to Lab in Scotland or indeed any shift towards Lab in Scotland is significant because Lab gaining Scottish MPs, means they may not need both Red Wall and Shire Tories to vote for them, gives them more routes to a working majority at the next GE.

Johnson

Boris Johnson on the elections: “It’s mid term and it’s certainly a mixed set of results and we’ve had a tough night in some parts of the country but in some parts you’re seeing Conservatives quite remarkable gains in places which have rarely voted Conservative, if ever.”
Boris Johnson: “The lesson I take…we’ve got to get on with the stuff that matters to people:”

Peregrina · 06/05/2022 12:12

I would happily see Labour defeat the Tories but not get a working majority, and I would hope then that we might get a proper Coalition of Lab/LibDem/SNP/PC - I don't think I would want any Tories on board at present. Then electoral reform.

Will it happen - who knows?

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2022 12:16

I agree with that.

Boris is continuing to strain every sinew to ensure that such a coalition is not necessary and that Labour win outright.

Urgh, this ‘getting on’ business gets on my tits. What he actually means is ‘buckle up buttercups, I’ve got two more years to carry on doing whatever the fuck I like’.

he’s a despot.

Peregrina · 06/05/2022 12:19

Keep up the good work then Boris.

Peregrina · 06/05/2022 12:23

My thought was - What's stopped you from 'getting on with things which matter' then?

OK - well a Chancellor who thinks that it would be 'silly' to do something about rising energy bills. A PM who boasts (wrongly I believe) how he is responsible for allowing pensioners to ride on buses 24 hours of the day.

Then of course, partygate - we were told by others that it didn't matter. It does seem that a significant part of the electorate thought that it did.

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2022 12:30

He is getting on with 'things' by delivering Fukushima fish and vegetables Wink

We will soon radiate light and heat.

Peregrina · 06/05/2022 12:32

Really? Enfield perhaps? I was looking at the Guardian's results breakdown, and counting the increase in Conservative Councillors. I reckon it came to 29. Set that against 145 losses.

No mention of places like West Oxfordshire where they have gone and lost control.

Don't forget that many of these seats were last contested when Labour was doing quite well before the 2019 meltdown.

I mean it’s not the way I’d approach the energy crisis

Boris has been fined - Part 3
Peregrina · 06/05/2022 12:35

But UKIP is not quite dead yet. They managed to hold a seat in Tamworth.

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2022 12:39

NEW: Labour GAIN Rossendale. Lost it in 2021. They were one short and they’ve retaken it. Conservatives down three.

What matters to me is that lying, criminal politicians are slung out. Can he please start with this.

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2022 12:41

And

NEW: Conservatives LOSE Maidstone to NOC. Had won the council in 2021. Another example of excellent 2021 gain being reversed for the party.
