We have LE and will use our vote. As per usual the only candidate to have posted any leaflets or been door knocking is the Lib Dem counsellor.

So the Conservatives will spend tomorrow predicting terrible losses, will lose less and then trumpet that as a win and a sign of faith in the PM Confused

Johnson won't get any more FPNS - Henry Newman is covering Abbagate for him. I think they've lied through their teeth.

The Gray report will be delayed until Whitsun (28/5) or Summer recess (23/7) and/or will be heavily redacted (privacy reasons). Once published more faux apologises, lessons learnt etc.

And then they'll all hang on hoping we forget all about it.

Yes, but the current opinion polls suggest that Labour will be the largest party at the next GE and that Boris and Raab may lose their seats. The question really is what happens in Scotland, if Labour has a bit of a revival there then the chances of them having a majority of seats in the GE goes up.

PortiaFimbriata · 04/05/2022 07:58

A Labour SNP pact is entirely possible: but Labour would have to agree to another independence referendum.

I would have thought that some kind of arrangement with the Lib Dems was more likely and given the current polling would likely be enough.
If Labour can take the Wakefield by-election that would be significant.
I am assuming the Lib Dems will go all in at Tiverton and probably take that.

PortiaFimbriata · 04/05/2022 08:12

The thing about Tiverton and Wakefield being close together (same day?) is that it'll give labour and the libdems perfect cover to concentrate on one each without the controversial choice of a full-on pact.

Notonthestairs · 04/05/2022 08:16

I agree Johnson is a liability and if they hang in to him they'll lose seats. You can't bluff your way through a cost of living crisis and they'll struggle to find a good time to hold an election - "more of what we have now" won't fly when people are struggling to feed themselves.

Maybe the Conservative MP's will be galvanised in to action over the weekend.

But he's a bit like nits in that he clings on despite repeated treatments.

Daily Mail headline made me laugh this morning - have they forgotten there is a war on?!

We don't have local elections this year

We don't have them and I feel quite jealous, all this talk about them and I feel left out. I want to register how I feel.

Peregrina · 04/05/2022 08:21

In fact, why does she need a house at all, couldn't she just live on a bus. Did you know my hobby is making buses out of cardboard boxes?

Better still, find a wreck of a car, park outside one of Johnson's residences and live in that.

Peregrina · 04/05/2022 08:30

.....and that Boris and Raab may lose their seats.

Please let that happen. It would be on a par with 'Were you still up for Portillo' all those years ago. Portillo was at least gracious in defeat. Would Johnson, Raab, or Patel, or Dorries be the same?

What was the headline?

Notonthestairs · 04/05/2022 08:41

"Man who can't answer a straight question" - I assumed they meant Johnson!

Notonthestairs · 04/05/2022 08:46

With a tag something like "Day 7 of beergate."

Neatly overlooking the "there were no parties" "all guidelines were followed", "I'm furious" , sacking of AS, failed attempt to investigate (SC), foot dragging appointment of SG, rejection of police investigation until SG had completed her report, we must wait until the police have investigated etc etc.
We are on something like Day 150...

newnamethanks · 04/05/2022 09:07

Can a thread be posted on AIBU for those who haven't got elections on?
AIBU - for Tory voters
YANBU - any other party
Probably not, I expect it would break all kinds of rules but am entertained by my vision of party members being frantically flogged into service by party headquarters. 'It's MN. You have to vote"😀

Wasn't a fan of Portillo then, but goodness isn't it a shame he isn't Prime Minister.

newnamethanks · 04/05/2022 10:18

No @jgw1 , you're forgetting what he was like. It was the shock of realising how much he was despised that brought about his conversion to telly friendly human being. So, no thanks. I doubt he could be worse than what we have but fear he'd be little better

DuncinToffee · 04/05/2022 10:21

According to Eustice, Elsie should just buy supermarket value brands.

This. There was a reason the nation cheered when he lost his seat. If we had to have a Tory from yesteryear as PM there are far better choices. Major or Heseltine would do me.

newnamethanks · 04/05/2022 10:32

Elsie's squandering her money in a supermarket? Why isn't she queuing at the foodbank like someone properly hard up?

DuncinToffee · 04/05/2022 10:39

Your conscience is clear Grin

Unsure how to vote tomorrow? Here's a handy guide to voting Tory from the Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sport.

No, I don't think i am forgetting, but it does show how far the Tory party have sunk that I would be happy for him to replace Big Dog.

newnamethanks · 04/05/2022 11:42

Fair point jgw1 if it were Portillo v. any of the current front bench then I suppose I'd have to choose him. What have we sunk to in this country that we're choosing 'least worst' options?

DuncinToffee · 04/05/2022 12:03

Hartlepool, Burn Valley and probably others are putting this in their leaflets

^‘Please don’t punish local Conservatives for the mistakes made in Westminster’

Notonthestairs · 04/05/2022 12:12

Really interesting comment piece in The Times from Daniel Finkelstein, it's called "Six Pieces of Luck Boris Johnson needs to stay a winner"
I can't to link to it for some reason.

But it suggests that Tory MP's might do well to recognise the whole raft of issues need to swing in their direction - party gate, cost of living and economy, Labour not gaining ground, the party finding another Brexit like issue to rally behind and zero scandals (!).

He says they all need to come good if Johnson is to stay on.

The s*n

EXC: Met police bodyguards looked on as Sir Keir Starmer and Labour allies consumed £200 of curry…

Fresh pressure for Durham Police to open investigation into #beergate as it emerges fellow cops were witnesses…

That's a good price for curry for 30 people Wink
