'7 'events/parties' for BJ versus one beer after work... Rightio...'

After work? I thought they were at work! Anyway, beer and takeaway at work that we know of, thanks to some students filming. Surely it displays a flagrant disregard for the restrictions at the time (no indoor socialising) and I bet plenty more like it went on. It's like a culture of one rule for them and one for everyone else. Tut tut.

Now once again I do not have a problem with this as work interactions were going on everywhere. What I do have a problem is Starmer handwringing about the Conservatives eating and drinking at work while he was too! He's made himself look an utter fool. Well more of an utter fool than previous, if possible.

Blossomtoes · 02/05/2022 18:51

Can you not understand why Sir Starmer QC is getting non stop ridicule for this?

I haven’t seen any ridicule about it. I’ve seen plenty of it about the Angela’s legs debacle.

Blossomtoes · 02/05/2022 18:53

By the way, there’s no such person as Sir Starmer.

You can tut all you like. But look at the dates. The police are not charging him. If you have a problem with that, write to them.

And what about the 6 other parties for BJ.... that'll be interesting won't it? We'll hear next week hopefully.

If youre talking about one rule for 'them' and one for everyone else, look no further than the Government. It's their MO.

Sir Starmer made me laugh, so silly and uninformed!

a spokesperson for Durham's police force seemed to agree with him that no rules were broken. They said: “We do not believe an offence has been established in relation to the legislation and guidance in place at that time and will therefore take no further action in relation to this matter.”

'JaniieJones I think you mean Durham work event'

I'm sorry I can't keep up. So, Labour beer and takeaways at 10pm is a work event but Conservatives doing similar is a 'party'. Riiiiight. Can you not understand why Sir Starmer QC is getting non stop ridicule for this?

No, not a 'party'. A gathering when regulations expressly forbade it. Try harder.

ClaudineClare · 02/05/2022 19:08

Durhamgate will soon be eclipsed by an influx of FPNs, they Gray report and the resulting implosion of the Tory party.

As for Twitter, half of those doing the ridiculing about Durhamgate are bots. The other half mostly have some very alarming views which they froth about when not trying to push #Durhamgate into trending. There may be a few real and reasonable people going on about it, but not many.

The Tories are getting absolutely desperate. All they have is Keir's Beer and Angela's Legs. It is pitiful. The Mail is a parody of itself and is convincing no-one except its loyal "readers".

My story Mp posted this morning on FB to say vote for Conservatives who will keep council tax low as Lib Dems and Labour will increase tax.

IIRC it's Tory who've just increased NI?

Different taxes don't equal no taxes!

I can't actually.

For a start the 2 events were 1 year apart, very different in nature and one of the events was a birthday party with non work members during what was the original tough lockdown when the most you could do was meet 1 other person outside if 2m apart.

Plus one event was in the building where they made the rules which gave us this countries biggest ever restrictions in the modern era by telling us we'd kill granny if we didn't comply.

Plus as much as I agree Starmer isn't the best opposition and that help Johnson cling on - there's absolutely no way as a lawyer he did anything against the law. One thing he would have done is read them with a fine tooth comb!

Yes but Janiie will tell you it says stock image in tiny letters in the actual article so no one will believe it's meant to be him eating curry during lockdown, and they'll know.

Dorries the Minister Responsible for Disinformation has not corrected her tweet, so everyone who follows her will think it's legit.

20/5/20Social in the garden for 40 people - lockdown rules - work meetings when absolutely necessary even then limited to 2. Public not to leave home without a reasonable excuse. Can meet 1 other person.

13/11/20 Abbagate - work meetings when absolutely necessary. indoor gatherings banned.

You might have short memories but we were following the roadmap in 2021 as vaccines were apparently the way out.

April 21 Starmer was at a pre election meeting in a constituency office - work meetings permitted.

Not comparable and only the desperate would suggest otherwise. The Conservatives must think the public very stupid.

Keir Starmer is a decent man but he is looking shifty in interviews about whether Angela Rayner was in Durham and where she stayed and who with. I couldn't give a monkeys about all of that but KS was a pontificating bore about the Tories' misdemeanors. As for John Nicholson he's a politician and Labour are toothless in Scotland. Nicola Sturgeon is under a great deal of scrutiny due to her ferry disaster, covid care home scandals, etc.

Precisely… and why Durham police have already said they’re not investigating.

Its staggering how many people think that dates have no meaning, I can’t quite bring myself to believe that everyone else would just ignore it too.

If Starmer has done something wrong I’m all up for investigating him, but let’s at least find something that doesn’t require massive leaps and insulting our own intelligence to hang him on eh?

Roussette · 02/05/2022 19:33

Can you bloody blame him, given the scale of the parties/functions? It was prolific and will be judged when the report comes out.

I don't blame him one little bit. He didn't break the law continually and his team are not responsible for 50 FPNs so far. More to come.
