"I mean if Starmer's interior decorator was at the constituency office that might make a difference to whether it was a working meeting."

That's the crux of the matter then. Rayner doubles as an interior decorator as part of a second job and was there in that guise only.

Notonthestairs · 30/04/2022 18:03

I agree Harriet it is interesting that the Mail has swung from "Don't They Know There is War On"

  • to frothing about a constituency meeting right after Labour announced a change in policy about non doms.
SueSaid · 30/04/2022 18:30

' hope the police do re-investigate so that any doubt can be quelled once and for all. If Durhamgate was found to have broken the rules, would you want Starmer and Rayner to resign@JaniieJones ?'

Well no, I've made my thoughts clear on this from the start. They were at work where the rules were different.

What they need to do is apologise for exploiting bereaved and grieving families and pretending they had any moral highgound.

newnamethanks · 30/04/2022 18:31

Anyone got any more pooh bags? I've already used a whole roll on this thread. There's plenty of it.

Am I on glue. Great contribution.

JaniieJones You need to stop reading the Daily Mail and get your news from more authentic sources.

Oh it's all been reported widely not just the DM. Mind Paul Brand has been unsurprisingly quiet it has to be said.

Notonthestairs · 30/04/2022 18:56

You can't answer why Rayner's attendance makes any difference because you know it doesn't. The meeting wasn't illegal.

Everything else is just attempts to distract from the 8(?) social events Johnson attended breaching draconian legislation we had to suffer, the pretence of fury about the non parties (all guidelines were followed, "I share your fury"), the desperate sacking of Allegra Stratton, being dragged in to appointing Simon Case to review and then discovering that he had attended a party, more lies to Parliament and crucial ongoing failure to correct the record, the slur against Starmer, appointing Sue Gray and then at the point she was ready to finalise then getting the police involved and the faux smirking apologises.

And in the background the fast tracked friends and family covid contracts, the lost phones, the protective ring around care homes, Hancocks face, hands and no space employment of his mistress, the attempts to subvert Paterson's clear wrong doings, the Russian report and close relationships with dodgy donors and on and on.

The Conservatives - under Johnson - have lost sight of the "moral high ground".

HarrietPierce · 30/04/2022 18:58

"Oh it's all been reported widely "

I can find plenty of reported anger and outrage at the Tories treatment of grieving families, but nothing relating to Labour who are not even in power.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 30/04/2022 12:36

Ok, let's go down the Kier's beer rabbit hole. Just suppose that he wasn't working, he got shit-faced, danced naked on the table, Angela Rayner joined in, and they partied for 3 days solid. How does that in any way justify Boris Johnson partying and lying to parliament about it? Are the government only accountable for something if nobody else has ever done it?

I reported my neighbour once for driving without insurance. The police decided not to prosecute. Am I now free to drive without insurance?

Great analogy.

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2022 19:24

The Tories didn't campaign then?

Except for the guy who wrote to Durham police and he had a curry.

itsgettingweird · 30/04/2022 19:26

I see goalposts are moving.

So now if abbagate is real and fines are given and Sue gray report states about these they won't be worth the paper they are written on.

Have to say - it did last over a week that if found guilty they'd accept BJ guilt Wink

I have absolutely no issue with the investigation into Kiers beer.

But I do have an issue that people talking about it cannot tell the difference between March -May 2020 and May/June 2021. The rules differed a lot.

And slightly worried that people cannot differentiate between birthday cake with wifey and interior designer and ransoms from the HoC and one team of Labour MPs!

@JaniieJones There is one thing that I am afraid you have not been clear about. When during the April/May 2020 lockdown did Boris Johnson say the rules were different at work, and for example say to school children who were going to school that they could have parties with their friends?

Now Conservatives are moaning about a electoral pact between LibDems & Labour (is there one?) - neatly forgetting all about their deal with Farage in 2019. They must think we have the memory of goldfish.

It may be that they have the memory of a goldfish as a result of all the boozy parties they have to go to.

DuncinToffee · 01/05/2022 11:02

On top of Dowden throwing a tantrum, prepare yourself for more incoming DM/Dan Hodges stories claiming Angela Rayner leaked the story herself.

Project save big dog is getting very desperate, woof

Kwasi Kwarteng says closing parliament's bars would be 'excessively puritanical' as MPs call for culture change.

And giving the BI £1billion to ensure the DUP voted alongside Theresa May for key votes.

Such hypocrisy from Dowden. He's written to KS to demand answers! If I were Starmer I'd just ignore his letter. The Tories have form for this... what about the Cameron Clegg coalition too.

That Fabricant tweet is beyond shocking.

We pay for people like this to represent us. It is beyond a joke. Is he drunk or something?

What does everyone think about "growlergate"🙄? The bots are all going mad about it on Twitter, but there doesn't seem to be any real evidence, just anecdotal reports from an anonymous MP.
