What things have you forgotten to pack when going away in the past?

Foreign holiday.
I'm packed and wondering what I may have forgotten.

Usually I forget things like a bit of first aid stuff or a charger cable.

Have you made a list? Look online for holiday packing lists for inspo! (My fave thing to do when preparing for a hol)

Grumpysister · 17/04/2022 11:57

Underwear, nightwear

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/04/2022 11:59

Toothpaste usually.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/04/2022 11:59

And bloody sun cream, I had to buy a bottle at the hotel shop last time and it was 20 euros. Envy

I love preparing for holidays - getting stuff clean and in piles ready for packing. One year we were going away for a month so it was super organised. Put a trestle table up in the spare room for piles of this and that. Where there wasn't space I used empty drawers......Come the day and I carefully went through my lists, packed and off we went. When breaking the journey in the US I went to the case to get out nightwear etc and discovered I'd left all my undies, nightwear etc at home. All I had was what I stood up in - clothes chosen for comfort - more Nora Batty than Nora Ephron. First trip then was to a store to buy supplies......

Not me but DH packed his kilt/shirt/jacket and his whole bag of accessories- so shoes/kilt socks/sporran/sgian dubh/bow tie- all the bits that make the outfit basically.
We were already in England by the time we discovered this so had a not at all relaxing day before the family wedding hunting for a kilt hire shop near Manchester.

DowntonCrabby · 17/04/2022 12:05

*forgot his bag of accessories!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/04/2022 12:10

Dd once 'forgot' her coat when we went to euro Disney. Teen and didnt think she needed it. Then it rained. Lots. 30€ spent on a disney coat in their souvenir shop!

My medication! Didn't pack it the night before as needed it in the morning. Realised two hours into the drive and had to ring 111 to get them to issue a prescription for the nearest chemist.

tokyotolondon · 17/04/2022 12:24

Adapter plugs

nancy75 · 17/04/2022 12:29

Once forgot to bring my glasses (had contacts in)
I’m very short sighted & contacts are no good for beach or swimming pool. When I got there I found an optician & got my opticians to fax over my prescription (it was a long time ago) and had to get new glasses made.

My mate once left her suitcase in the middle of her living room, her husband took everything from the hallway and didn't realise her stuff wasn't there. Right the way along he just checked he'd picked up everything he'd put in the car. She had one outfit, the one she stood up in. She spent the whole holiday wearing "I love Cyprus" t shirts, ha ha ha!

Polkadotties · 17/04/2022 12:34

My razor handle. Packed the new Venus head but not the handle. It’s bloody tricky to shave with just the head

TheDuckSaysMoo · 17/04/2022 12:36

We once left all the toiletries at home. All packed into a toiletry case. It made for an expensive trip. Most commonly I forget my earplugs.

Brightrainbow · 17/04/2022 12:36

I once forgot to pack my clothes!
I’d packed for the kids and forgot about me-I spent a very miserable week wearing jogging bottoms
Normally it’s a charger or my hair straighteners

Flatandhappy · 17/04/2022 12:40

We are flying overseas tomorrow for the first time in three years so I am stupidly excited. I have made a list, the main things for me are regular medication and contact lenses because these cannot be replaced where we are going, moving down to tech chargers and first aid items, sun cream etc. because these are expensive where we are going, down to books (many), clothes, swimmers, shoes which could be replaced. There are also the hard copies of Vaccination certificates, PCR test within 48 hours, proof of insurance, passport with 6 months expire, local currency for visa on arrival and cash to change which we cannot forget. Travel used to be a whole lot easier! Bon voyages.

IsabellaMadrigal · 17/04/2022 12:43

Bras. Had to buy some at the airport 🙈

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 17/04/2022 12:46

Shoes for either child. We carried them to the car in their pjs and slippers and set off, we’d nearly arrived by the time we realised and had to go via a shopping centre.

PriamFarrl · 17/04/2022 12:46

I have a list on my phone. Every time I travel I update it.
The other tip is to make a list and keep it in your suitcase. Most of the time the stuff you need is the same.

Fizbosshoes · 17/04/2022 12:48

We went camping and forgot to take a lighter for the BBQ or camping stove (we borrowed one the first night, and then bought one) and the cable for the camping fridge. We had no ice blocks because we normally plug it in. However despite 25° temperatures, long life milk, butter and bacon all survived the weekend without adequate refrigeration!

ChiefPearlClutcher · 17/04/2022 12:58

The tentpoles, tent was unfolded with ground sheets down when we realised.
DH had to drive back

Finewine76 · 17/04/2022 14:16

I remember going away for two weeks I went in my flip flops for comfort. It's only when I got there I realised I'd forgotten all of my shoes! My son once brought two odd shoes on holiday too, and some friends forgot tent poles for the camping trip we were on, 11 people squeezed in to a six man tent was the stuff of nightmares when there's you and one other girl!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/04/2022 14:20
