Foreign holiday.
I'm packed and wondering what I may have forgotten.

Usually I forget things like a bit of first aid stuff or a charger cable.

Ds hearing aids. Had lifted him from he'd into car to drive to port early morning. Luckily realised and turned back for them but got to France before we realised we had no spare batteries. Fun trying to buy hearing aid batteries in a foreigner language. He is now a very well travelled student who definitely wouldn't be caught out without his hearing equipment .

...sorry. To add. Sheepskin boots to the Caribbean!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 17/04/2022 22:10

The one time I forgot emergency clothes in my hand luggage: BA lost my luggage. No pants!

littlegreenheart · 17/04/2022 22:19

Most recently, earbuds. Which I discovered when I was already in bed in the hotel room and ready to fire up the "white noise" app on my mobile to drown out the very noisy en suite extractor fan (which was impossible to turn off). "Dollar Store" to the rescue for a cheap but serviceable no-name set.

Bed socks. I hate cold feet.

Things that I have forgotten that have been annoying to replace

Tweezers - Couldn't remember the right word for these in Italy (in the days before Google translate) and spent ages trying to explain what I wanted to the pharmacist
Canesten cream - Ditto above Blush

More disastrous ones
Driving licence - when my sister and I were going to hire a car abroad. My sister was not best pleased to have to do all of the driving for 2 weeks !

Shoes except for the trainers I wore to travel- I just could not find any women's ones in my size ( size 9) in the shops in any of the nearby small Italian towns within a 40 minute drive and I refused to buy men's ones for the prices they were sold at. Instead I waited wait for the local weekly market. I still had to buy men's shoes (stuck to sandals, and flip flops) but at least they were cheap. Since I was there for a month this was more than annoying.

As an aside. I never forgot clothes as I was well aware I'd never find any in my size in Italy in the the 80 and 90ss ( I was too fat for most of them).

Hairbrush
Hair bands
Deodorant
Toothbrush/paste
PJs
Hand cream

These days I keep all of my “holiday” stuff in the suitcase and keep one of everything for travelling.

Passports.

Parked the car boarded the airport coach to Departures. Went to check in & realised we had no passports.
Phoned the local taxi office to go to our house, take the front door key from our safe place in the garden pick up the passports from the sideboard left hand drawer & bring them to the passenger drop off at the airport. £120 fare was worth it.

SmithfamilyRobinson · 17/04/2022 23:07

Recent work trip, lipstick but I realised on plane so bought a set of 3 strange colours duty free (as Germany in lockdown most of the shops in the airport were closed).
Recently adapter - Switzerland, slipped mind they don't use European system. Luckily hotel had options for charging.
In the past, DH left his whole weekend bag at home.
Weekend away only had "trendy" (aka uncomfortable) trainers and flip flops - in Yorkshire.
Often underpack so have to rotate clothes in creative ways.
DS on PGL holiday in Shropshire forgot anorak but amazingly didn't rain!
I also have a swim wrap only used on one holiday as keep forgetting I have it!

Just wondering omg 😲
Scarby9 · 17/04/2022 23:23

Phone charger - regularly
Sheet sleeping bag - took pillowcase instead by mistake
Socks - nowhere near a shop, no way to dry clothes, wore the same pair all week
Foreign currency - ordered it, collected it, THREW IT AWAY.

I'm much better at packing now.

Throwntothewolves · 17/04/2022 23:42

Wellies for my toddler on a very rainy holiday in the Lake District. To make matters worse I couldn't find any in the local shops in his size, odd considering it's an 'outdoorsy' tourist area.
