What things have you forgotten to pack when going away in the past?

Foreign holiday.
I'm packed and wondering what I may have forgotten.

Usually I forget things like a bit of first aid stuff or a charger cable.

DH always forgets his prescription sunglasses. We have bought clip ons in Las Vegas, Chamonix, Stavanger, Perth (Scottish one)…. He doesn’t even leave one of his many pairs in his bag, because he thinks it will encourage him to forget his prescription sunnies 🤔🙄🤦

Travelled to country wedding in the middle of nowhere. Arrived and unpacked. Forgot the dressy up shoes. All I had were trainers and flip flops. Too far and too late to go shopping.

I managed to borrow a semi decent pair of shoes from another guest but they hurt me to hell and back and were the wrong colour completely. Into flip flops at first opportunity. And lesson learned. Wear them on the way!

Once on our way to a wedding. Timed it so we would just have time to get to hotel, make up on, change and back out the door to the wedding. I suddenly remembered that I'd left my toilet bag and makeup bag on my dressing table. Ended up in a very rural chemist having to replace toiletries and makeup - amazingly they had nothing reasonable like Max Factor or Rimmel as you would expect. No, it was a really cheap brand I'd never heard of or Clinique which I ended up getting. The time I'd bought toiletries, plus foundation, eye make up, mascara, lipstick etc I could have had another night at the hotel (slight exaggeration but you know what I mean!)

I'm the packer in our house and once forgot DH's trousers. We were only away for a weekend so he borrowed teenage DS's trackie bottoms 😂

woodhill · 17/04/2022 16:22

A shower hat

Planesmistakenforstars · 17/04/2022 16:27

Ear plugs.

PurpleFadesToGreen · 17/04/2022 16:40

Once my glasses, was wearing contacts.
Had to get my mum to let herself in and post them to me.
Had extra lenses, but after a while your eyes get eurgh and I need my glasses.

Last time....my handbag and purse.
That was a bugger, had to transfer cash via bank app to someone else to withdraw for me, oh and buy a cheap purse.

It's usually my stuff that gets forgotten as so busy sorting everyone else's.

Letsnotargue · 17/04/2022 16:44

Imodium - the one holiday we both really needed it. The first aid kit is hidden from OH before we leave now.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/04/2022 16:48

Nightwear, I, too busy picking day outfits. Most memorably (but no help to your holiday packing) was my wedding dress when I was staying at the wedding venue the night before.

seriousandloyal · 17/04/2022 16:50

Makeup, so annoying

Dontknownow86 · 17/04/2022 16:52

Both contact lenses and glasses. I wear dailies so I had to sleep in them and beg some more off a local optician.

Another time I packed no tops at all. Regularly - socks, toothbrush, charger.

I have adhd though so probably worse than most!

wonkygorgeous · 17/04/2022 16:57

Decades ago......my husbands (now exH) clothes. That didn't end well.

Rina66 · 17/04/2022 16:57

My random selection-
A hat for keeping hair out of the sun
Alexa so I can bluetooth the radio from my phone
Tweezers
A bowl for snacks!

upinaballoon · 17/04/2022 17:16

My nightie, when I was about 14. I can't remember what happened. Either my aunt had a spare one or she lent me hers and went and bought a new one for herself. Cromer. We went on the train. I wish I could tell her how much I appreciate the times she took me on holiday and the day I called in to see her in hospital, if I'd known it was the last time I'd ever see her, I'd have stayed longer and kissed her when I left - very undemonstrative family. My aunts loved me but they didn't keep saying so.

reluctantbrit · 17/04/2022 17:36

3x in a row: DD's hairbrush. We now have a lovely selection of detangle brushes.

Coats - we left the house with over 20 degrees, didn't wear a coat for several days before. Realised it around 1 1/2 hours into the drive and bought new ones. Well, apart from DD who outgrew it, DH and I still wear them for the 5th year running.

Recently on our outward stop over on a long drive holiday, teenage dd declared that she had left most of her clothes in the tumble dryer. That was expensive.

Usually we forget the European plug.

underneaththeash · 17/04/2022 18:27

I always forget my cover-up for the pool - always. I have at least 10 hanging in the wardrobe now, all of which have only been worn for one holiday.

DH has forgotten so many things over the years, that he's no longer allowed to pack. He's really tall, with big feet and he can't buy stuff from a normal shop.

2DogsOnMySofa · 17/04/2022 18:28

Bikini or any swim ware when going to a beach holiday

NoodletheSchnoodle · 17/04/2022 18:30

This causes me stress when going away! (we don't have many holidays but stay for 3-4 days at a time with relatives far away quite often)
I keep a master packing list printed in my suitcase so I can check I've got everything as I'm packing.
I keep a copy of the same list on my phone too.
Packing is easy now!

@DrMadelineMaxwell

Foreign holiday. I'm packed and wondering what I may have forgotten.

Usually I forget things like a bit of first aid stuff or a charger cable.

Portable battery packs, tablet, journal, the bag itself with various items in. Etc
Echobelly · 17/04/2022 18:31

I'm usually good but a few years ago I forgot all my socks on a break in Cornwall and we had to drive about to find a large supermarket that was open in the evening so I could buy some.

KirstenBlest · 17/04/2022 18:31

Can't think of anything but there are things that I would be annoyed if I din't have. These include nail clippers or scissors, nail file, tweezers, soap, shampoo, comb, hair ties, shampoo, soap...

Stayed in a hotel room once that didn't have toiletries apart from some dodgy handwash. Had to buy overpriced stuff in a corner shop

YetAnotherNam · 17/04/2022 18:32

All my clothes!

For some reason, I only packed my husband’s and when we got to the hotel, I realised I didn’t pack anything for myself.

It was a skiing holiday in a tiny resort in America and there were no shops to buy any clothes.

I spent 4 days in the same clothes I skied in.

Wineinthegarden · 17/04/2022 18:48

Not quite packing but friends of mine (honest!) forgot the baby. Halfway down the road with a jammed car and baby was in the car seat back at home.
