Surprisingly my MP’s caseworker resolved my case in a few days and my MP is Raab!
In fairness to Tory MPs, I've actually heard that constituency offices have been brilliant on this.
There was an article about how Tory MPs have been disgusted about how the Home Office were dealing with this and there was something of a behind the scenes backlash going on last week
And now the Home Office has down a big slap down to try and stop this.
On the same day as the Rwanda story.
The cynic in me, wonders if this is a dead cat story which will have a backlash but the real backlash that was ongoing has successfully been headed off.
The thing is though - Tory MPs have cases in progress which they are involved in (and will be now personally invested in) and they have to deal directly with their constituents who are begging them for help.
The home office gamble might well be that Ukrainians will eventually give up and that will shut up the constituents too.
This, however, is not the actions of a government who is trying to win the next election.
The people who are offering homes for refugees are firmly affluent. They fall into a certain demographic who probably are either true blue or in that potential soft blue swing voter box.
Tory MPs are already feeling vulnerable about their jobs so may feel it is worth fighting for. Its surprisingly how word gets around about stuff like this in 'middle england' shires.
