Random things that were big in the '90s.

I'm trying to make up a quiz for a friend's birthday based on things that were popular in the '90s, plus I was just having fun reminiscing with another friend. So I wondered, what random and lesser known things do you remember being popular back then?

Riverdance is one I remember. That was so huge back then and I was obsessed with it and Michael Flatley. I remember watching Eurovision live when they had Michael Flatley and Jean Butler perform and being blown away by it.

@FartNRoses

Chokers… I used to wear them with bodysuits and red high waisted baggy jeans. Oh the shame!
Bet it was black or lacy! 😂🤣😂

Loads of little butterfly clips in your hair

Or “space buns” like bjork

Two bits hanging down at the front of your hair. Also sometimes people bleached only these bits blonde

Overplucked eyebrows

Yoyo tricks

Tamagotchi

NOT beef (mad cow disease) - I think this was the 90s?!

Perms

Bootcut jeans soaking up any puddles you walked through

Push pops

Impulse body spray

That board game “dream phone” I never had it but god I wanted it!

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsens tv show on Nickelodeon

Oh also Sister sister, Clarissa explains it all, saved by the bell, obviously FRIENDS

Belly button piercings

Cramming extra people in the back of a friends mums car by someone curling up in the footwell, or squashing four along the back seat and one ducking down if you see a police car. Or as my DH used to have to do - sit in the boot!

Pay phones ha

Pepsi was so much more popular than coke if I remember right

Everywhere stinking of smoke

For some reason there was way more dog poo in parks and on the street

Those chocolate pretzels

Rice Krispie squares m

Getting excited for the first national lottery draw

FartNRoses · 08/04/2022 19:48

@Sortilege

Magic eye pictures.

Those weird green/grey/burgundy striped wide neck tunic tops that were absolutely everywhere for about two years in the early 90s.

Papier poudre from body shop.

“Bodies” with the popper crotches that were such hard work when you were tipsy.

I really got stressed over magic eye pictures. My siblings and parents could do them and my friends . I could not . I tried for hours and would give myself migraines 🤦‍♀️ I’m the end I decided they must be a trick that everyone I knew was in on 🤣🤣

Watching Gladiators on ITV on a Saturday night
Bodysuits and waistcoats
Floppy hat a la Blossom
Chokers
Necklace made out of black cord with a silver chunky symbol
Chunky kickers
Bright Benetton jumpers
Bright sweater shop jumpers
Push pops
Merry down cider
Euro trash on a Friday night
Mid 90’s was more into Oasis - what’s the story morning glory was THE album and everyone used to walk about singing she’s electric whilst swigging white lightning or drinking Hooch
Late 90’s was more into clubbing and it was about :
Beginnings of trance and big choons
Little plastic hair clips in rows
Body glitter
Face glitter
Wedge platforms
Long leather effect coats over tight clubbing clothes

Ooh the nostalgia Grin

xXwhenwillitendXx · 08/04/2022 19:55

@StanleyTheCrane I never got one as a child and to this day I'm gutted. I saw one in a charity shop not so long ago and nearly bought it until I realised I probably couldn't get the chocolates for it any more.
