Random things that were big in the '90s.

I'm trying to make up a quiz for a friend's birthday based on things that were popular in the '90s, plus I was just having fun reminiscing with another friend. So I wondered, what random and lesser known things do you remember being popular back then?

Riverdance is one I remember. That was so huge back then and I was obsessed with it and Michael Flatley. I remember watching Eurovision live when they had Michael Flatley and Jean Butler perform and being blown away by it.

The book 'Wild Swans' - everyone was reading it, me included. I still have my 90s copy and re-read it occasionally.

God I never got through it. I have a 25 yo copy though. Should I try again?

Definitely give it another try @Luredbyapomegranate . It's worth persevering through any bits you might find a bit 'dry'.

I also read the Mao biography Jung Chang co-wrote with her husband - I don't think it was very well-reviewed when it came out, but I found it a very interesting read.

@BlancheB

What did Blair do in the 90s that made him a war criminal? You might be much younger than me, but I remember very well when he could do no wrong for a few brief years in the 90s when many of us were so thrilled to be rid of the Tories. The 2000s were a different story, of course.

I remember some school friends taking lunch money to school in a plastic tube thing that hung around their necks on a black string- does anyone else remember those??

Yes, the 1997 Labour landslide was the release of the pent-up frustration of the 'Thatcher' generation who had reached adulthood too late to vote in the 1992 general election. All the big names toppling one by one Grin .
