Why are fish and chip portions so big?

If the price of fish and chips is going up couldn't they just start to make the portions smaller? One large cod and chips is enough to feed 3 of us for dinner round here!

Oh.. I love fish and chips from a fish shop 😋 I live in a rural Yorkshire village (23 miles from nearest town..on a good day) and they are cold when fetching back home! Once a month weather permiting my grandson and I go into town to eat them on the benches in the square. Lovely!

I love fish and chips too. Luckily the nearest one is five minutes' walk away and it's quite good but the best one is 10 minutes' walk. If they wrap it well it's still nicely warm. My mum always used to buy it for us on the way from the station on a Saturday afternoon. I prefer to send my husband though because he can run it in under five minutes. I tell him to try to set a new personal best every time.

A large cod and small chips costs about £9.50 from our favourite.
I never finish the chips, the portion is huge.
You would share my fish only if you had incapacitated me first. You know the bastards would steal the best, crispy bits of batter Grin

Our local is about 50 metres away from us,
It’s okay, I have it maybe once or twice a year as I rarely fancy it.
Ds sometimes has what they call king bites and chips which is I think 7 smaller pieces of battered fish and a medium portion of chips. He’s 10 with a big appetite and finishes it maybe minus about 3 chips.
When we order for all of 5 us we order 2 large fish and chips for dh and I (£10 each), dd1 has scampi and chips (think £9) and, dd2 usually has panko prawns and chips (£12). Then ds has the king bites meal which is about £10. Plus order some pickled onions and some of their bread rolls for dh and the dds.
Anyway, it’s not particularly ‘cheap’ and there may be a few chips left over but everyone gets what they want to eat and no one has to share!!! As for the stray leftover chips, they get fed to the chickens the next day, I think it’s a bit grim reheating yesterdays chip shop chips.
I prefer a skinny fry anyway!

I'm afraid that I can't take anyone seriously on these threads who says "I couldn't possibly eat it all". Yes. Yes you could.

Ha ha definitely. Cod and chips is the new mythical mumsnet chicken.

See I usually think the same - could demolish a large takeaway pizza to myself for example - but not on this.

It's possibly partly to do with how much you like it because it gets quite samey after a while for me and my stomach just thinks "no more".
