Is there a news blackout on fuel shortages?

Just doesn't seem to be reported anywhere. There is no diesel in my small town and supply problems for the last week. This is the same in the large town I work in. My colleague drove round all the fuel stations within a five mile radius and could not locate any.

I don't seem to see this reported anywhere or is it just my town?

No issues round these parts (rural home counties).

TenoringBehind · 05/04/2022 13:52

It was reported in yesterday’s Telegraph that there were shortages in the SE. We’re in the Midlands and my FB is full so stories about all the petrol stations here being out of diesel.

bloodywhitecat · 05/04/2022 13:58

Norfolk/Suffolk border and struggling for diesel and unleaded here. I have cancelled DFS's therapy session as I don't have enough fuel to get there and back and I don't want to run out with two babies in the car.

dottydodah · 05/04/2022 14:02

I assume from the blockades due to the "I know what .lets stick our heads to the road brigade!" I got some a few days ago ,and noticed some pumps were locked up .

Velvian · 05/04/2022 14:17

I had the same thought last night. I knew nothing about it, went out for a meal, needed to stop for fuel on the way. I had to leave my car at the last petrol station and get a taxi home, as I didn't have enough to get home again.

I would not have gone out, had I known there was a problem.

At least some of it is due to these idiots

Better that they don't get any publicity imo

Catshaveiteasy · 05/04/2022 14:28

London - a week or two back I had to search for petrol. I noticed all the diesel pumps were closed.

Otherpeoplesteens · 05/04/2022 14:30

If it's a blockade of storage facilities in the SE, it would affect both petrol and diesel in the SE. Diesel seems to be hit far worse, and nationally.

worriedatthistime · 05/04/2022 14:40

No issues here

marqueses · 05/04/2022 14:50

There are big problems in my area, local Facebook groups are resembling last year's fuel crisis but it's clearly not national which is why I assume it's not being widely reported

Velvian · 05/04/2022 14:51

It is not in our local news either.

yellowsuninthesky · 05/04/2022 14:53

No problems in my area in the SE either. Just walked past my local petrol station and it was quiet and all the pumps seemed to be working (ie they didn't have the yellow tags on to say they were out of action).

ifonly4 · 05/04/2022 14:57

There certainly wasn't a problem at our local station on Sunday.

Fuzzy303 · 05/04/2022 14:57

no problem where I live

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/04/2022 14:59

I was at the petrol station this morning and there were no issues. That's in Scotland.

bigbluebus · 05/04/2022 15:00

I went for petrol this morning and there was definitely diesel in the pumps. I hope the media learnt their lessons last time and continue to be low key on reporting it to prevent the ridiculous panic buying that will ensue. Our local paper reported some difficulties I obtaining diesel in one of the large towns earlier and the comments on Facebook about the article basically said "stop trying to cause panic buying".

OutlookStalking · 05/04/2022 15:02

Wow just drive ti our 2 local ones and no fuel at all. Something is going on.

thenewduchessoflapland · 05/04/2022 15:16

Having issues getting diesel where I live

WalkingOnSonshine · 05/04/2022 15:19

No issues with diesel supply around our SW town, sounds like it’s a locality issue.

NoNamesInMyMouth · 05/04/2022 15:21

Yes, no fuel in a massive supermarket over the weekend. It was Saturday morning 9.15am though so not sure if they were awaiting delivery. Supermarket down the road were open.

NoNamesInMyMouth · 05/04/2022 15:22

In Oxford btw.

Discountclaimed · 05/04/2022 15:26

After the panic buying a few months ago, it’s probably wise if there is!

lonelydreamer · 05/04/2022 15:27

SW here and definitely a shortage of diesel. The local Facebook group is flooded with people asking where they can get fuel from

DogInATent · 05/04/2022 15:43

Norfolk started to run short of diesel on Friday due to the fuel depot protests. I managed to fill-up our two vehicles yesterday (both near empty tanks and both needed this week) at one supermarket, but another two were empty and another petrol station I passed was queued out. Speaking to the cashier the overnight deliveries aren't lasting much beyond lunchtime.

It will ease when the temporary break in deliveries over the protests is made up for. But of course it's got everyone in a flap and panicking again. I did notice that it's the cheapest diesel that's running out first, any fuel station that normally charges 2-6p/l more than the cheapest in the area still seems to have fuel. So it's still a price conscious panic.
