Is there a news blackout on fuel shortages?

Just doesn't seem to be reported anywhere. There is no diesel in my small town and supply problems for the last week. This is the same in the large town I work in. My colleague drove round all the fuel stations within a five mile radius and could not locate any.

I don't seem to see this reported anywhere or is it just my town?

No problem here, but the independent garages seem to be creeping their prices back up 🤔

RandomThought96 · 05/04/2022 12:33

No shortages here.

Good that the press are not publishing the kind of alarmist reporting they came out with a few months ago. That only served to massively increase demand and exacerbate what was originally a localised distribution issue.

EcoCustard · 05/04/2022 12:34

Our local garages 10 miles in either direction are regularly running out of diesel, apparently as deliveries aren’t as regular presumably due to sanctions. DH working in Essex and has had a few occasions in recent weeks were he can’t fill up, to get home or has had to drive around to get some. Birchanger services ran out yesterday.

Otherpeoplesteens · 05/04/2022 12:40

But oil isn't sanctioned. Russian-owned or flagged ships are banned, but most tankers are registered in Timbuktu or wherever. The UK wants to stop imports from Russia by the end of the year, but we currently get nearly 20% of our diesel from there.

It looks and smells like rationing.

Horcruxe · 05/04/2022 12:43

Completely fine where I am- though I haven't had to get any fuel for a few days so wouldn't have noticed anyway

Notanotherwindow · 05/04/2022 12:46

Good. About time someone with half a brain thought to do so. News coverage just makes everything worse. There was no fuel shortage before until the media stirred everyone up into a frenzy and they all started panic buying.

Ilikewinter · 05/04/2022 12:50

I noticed our big Tesco had ran out of diesel on Saturday, only noticed cause theyd put a big sign up - i heard something on the news about the shortage being because of the blockades going on.

whynotwhatknot · 05/04/2022 12:50

why do you want them to talk about it will just make things worse

no problems her ein south essex

Flatbrokefornow · 05/04/2022 12:54

There’s been a lot of rumbling about it locally. I don’t read the news though, and I don’t go out much!

Everytime I’ve been to Tesco recently, there have been big queues for petrol. I usually fill up once a month, but lately I’ve been topping off when it looks less busy, just because of the extra time added to my shop (I leave my DD11 alone while I do it, which she doesn’t like and I’m comfortable with only up to a point)

Milomonster · 05/04/2022 12:56

Shortage reported on my local FB page for Hampstead.

traintraveller · 05/04/2022 12:59

No issues in my area, I passed 4 petrol stations today and no shortages or queues at any

User748956 · 05/04/2022 13:07

No diesel at the weekend at a large supermarket garage, DH got some yesterday at Asda which is always rammed as it is cheapest one in our town, I did mention to DH that he would probably have to use my small petrol car more. I would think that vehicles use diesel that petrol as it includes most of the vans as well

Watercoloursky · 05/04/2022 13:07

West Sussex here... big local Tesco was out of fuel yesterday, so we went to Sainsburys a bit further away and they had petrol but no diesel.

User748956 · 05/04/2022 13:13

Newspaper reports are saying it's the protests

Flaunch · 05/04/2022 13:14

Lots of no diesel signs in the West Midlands over the last week. Our local Tesco has actually been closed several times! I managed to fill up with diesel this morning at sainsburys in the town I work in. I rarely fill up completely and it cost me £90 😵‍💫😵‍💫

ParkheadParadise · 05/04/2022 13:17

No shortage here.
I filled up at Tesco yesterday.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 05/04/2022 13:17

Supermarkets sell out round here cost they are 6p a litre cheaper. Everywhere else OK.
Let's keep it that way.

BigWoollyJumpers · 05/04/2022 13:17

Just had a chat with local station. People panic bought over the weekend following the XR protests. People are idiots. There was no shortage. Just like last time, if everyone just bought as normal, these issues don't occur.

donquixotedelamancha · 05/04/2022 13:19

There was something in my local paper about diesel delivery problems last week. Didn't seem to be a major issue and supplies are fine when I've been. There have been sporadic problems in some areas since the driver shortages started.

As I've asked many times: why do a lot of people think something they've experienced is automatically the same for everyone else too? (In this case to the point of presuming a cover up)

A quick google would have shown it isn't nationwide and is being reported in local papers.

Crucible · 05/04/2022 13:26

South London - diesel locally, no signs of a problem.

ProfYaffle · 05/04/2022 13:29

South Norfolk - our small town is completely dry. No mention in the local press, local facebook page admins enjoying the opportunity to be officious about deleting posts Hmm

Chakraleaf · 05/04/2022 13:30

I struggled to get some in suffolk. Every fuel station is closed.

RedWingBoots · 05/04/2022 13:32

Seems the supermarket petrol stations had their tanker deliveries overnight as the queues are back to normal.

SweetSakura · 05/04/2022 13:33

No issues where I am

DigsDilemma · 05/04/2022 13:34

Maybe shortages are just a fact of life in post Brexit Britain and no longer newsworthy
