Dh can go and live in the shed with his beloved dyson

I’m sick to death of the bloody thing.

It doesn’t work. Half way though something clogs. The whole thing has to be taken apart. I’m sick to death of giving it a hair cut once a week (Dyson owners will know what I mean).

The charge never lasts that long. The bloody head has to be changed for the hard floor and that head is next to useless, anything other than a large speck of dust makes it stop working.

When he bought the bloody thing, he said he would do all the vacuuming. But a hairy cat and three children including a toddler who is incapable of keeping anything on a plate means that I do end up using it when he’s working.

His Grandmother has had to move in to a care home and MIL has asked if we want the Shark that they bought her last year. I’ve bitten hand off (do you like the shark reference).

Dh is sulking saying he wants to keep his dyson. He loves it. It’s the bestest vacuum cleaner ever.

It doesn’t sound like he loves the bastard thing when he’s on the kitchen swearing at it halfway though cleaning the house trying to find out why it’s stopped working for the 6th time, but what do I know.

I’m having the shark and he can either like it or run off into the sunset with his beloved dyson and i’ll read about how “I married my vacuum cleaner” in Take a Break.

@Deathraystare

Dyson was no good for me as an asthmatic because of having to empty the dust chamber instead of replace a bag

I cannot the obsession with Dysons or bagless machines. I watch other people with their bagless machines and the 'puff' of who knows what as they attempt to unscrew the area with all the grime in it. Ugh.

I agree. Bagless vacuum cleaners are the emperor's new clothes. You never see a speck of dust inside my Sebo - take the bag out, seal it, bin it.

DH and I are both trying to kill our Shark Liftaway, but it's a tough bugger.

My shark sometimes clogs...

Bedsheets4knickers · 03/04/2022 14:33

I feel the same about my shark . I've had a dyson too in the past . I'd get a Henry anyday .

I prefer a bagless one so that I'm not buying bags and putting them in landfill.

the 'puff' of who knows what

It's called "dust" and had been lying about in your house, created by you and your family and pets 😂

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 03/04/2022 14:43

H bought a shark when I had a hysterectomy. This is relevant as I wasn't allowed to hoover for 6 weeks, so didn't find out what a piece of shite it was until it was too late to return it, because it had been used loads by that point. Heavy, awkward to manoeuvre, TINY dust compartment, no cord retraction. He believes the fact that I always swear under my breath when using it to be a pass-ag swipe at him due to my affront at him not consulting me about buying it. It's not, it's just so shite I can't help myself.

abeanbaked · 03/04/2022 14:45

LOL

I hate my partners dyson, it's utter shit. He loves it and can't see past it. Every time he empties it he makes a point of telling me how much dog hair it has picked up 🥱

HelloDulling · 03/04/2022 14:45

I love my Dyson, DH prefers our corded Miele, so we still have them both.

JaneJeffer · 03/04/2022 14:48

I was so happy when the Dyson finally died. Hated the sight of it.

WideDyedAndLegless · 03/04/2022 15:03

I'm sitting here on the sofa surfing Mumsnet while my Eufy vacuums the whole of the downstairs for me.
I love it 😍

TabithaTittlemouse · 03/04/2022 15:11

Dysons need to die in the shed with their stupid cousin Henry.

Shark is where it’s at. I hope you and Kevin are very happy together.

I would never ever have another Dyson.
We have a corded Shark stick and it’s brilliant. So good I bought another for DN’s house as I do her vacuuming too.

RandomMess · 03/04/2022 15:24

Love my Miele 💕

Would happily have a Sebo too, would love Eufy or similar but too many hair balls or possible other cat incidents to risk one.

ShouldersBackChestOutChinUp · 03/04/2022 15:27

Dyson are shit.

I like Miele.

Elnetthairnet · 03/04/2022 15:29

I love my cordless shark but I also have a Henry for ‘proper’ cleaning. They’re both fab and replaced the shitty awful dyson I used to own. Horrible, heavy, constantly needing emptying and clogging with hair all the bloody time.

Floralnomad · 03/04/2022 15:31

We have loads of vacuums , 4 indoors including 1 handhold which is a Dyson and is fabulous . We have 2 cordless sharks 1 upstairs and 1 down and I must admit they are better than Dyson cordless vacs ( we’ve had a few ) but my favourite cordless is the Bosch Athlet .

Longdistance · 03/04/2022 15:33

Our Dyson used to cut out. It needed a new battery. £30 from Amazon.
Yes to the fucker having a hair cut regularly. There’s three ladies in this house. At least it picks up the hair.

Squiff70 · 03/04/2022 15:34

Dyson are beyond crap! I've had two (for my sins) and neither of them lasted more than a few months (I had a dog at the time).

I also despise Henry hoovers. Are they on drugs?! Useless, pointless, back-breaking hoofer-doofers which take up far too much space and time. I inherited my late Grandfather's Henry after he died. I hated it so much, Henners went to live out the rest of his days in my parent's shed.

Why would you put a paper bag in landfill Confused Ours goes in the compost bin.
thinking123 · 03/04/2022 15:58

Mine has never clogged either! Honestly flawless better than any other vacuum I've had, and I was sceptical. I wanted it to be rubbish! But it's great

knowinglesseveryday · 03/04/2022 16:12

I don't find the cordless too bad, but the previous ones were HIDEOUS, heavy and constantly clogging up. I do find I need to replace bits of it fairly frequently-the filters, the main head, the battery have all been replaced over 4 years.

ApolloandDaphne · 03/04/2022 16:17

I hate both my Dysons. The cordless one does not retain any battery power and the other one is a heavy ankle bashing fucker. DH is the only person that came tame it.

I am looking at getting an AEG bagless cylinder one and keeping it just for myself.

pointythings · 03/04/2022 16:36

I've got a Dyson that's at least 15 years old, and though I hate the brand with a passion and think that Richard Dyson is an asshole, it's a great vacuum cleaner. When it does die, I will not be buying another one of his products though.

TheNoodlesIncident · 03/04/2022 16:45

We had a Bosch Athlet, it annoyed the hell out of me because the charge was short-lived, it didn't last long enough to vacuum even downstairs and it couldn't be arsed sucking anything up, it just looked at it, went Nah and put it back. Lots of gravelly rattling noises like it was making an effort, but no. It got taken to our local tip. We bought a Shark Liftaway and used the Athlet for one last time on living room carpet, immediately prior to unleashing the Shark on the same carpet. Dust reservoir of Shark filled up with grim evidence of all the gunge that the Athlet had missed. It's so strange how some posters find one make brilliant and others just can't get the same performance from that type?

We love our Shark, it never clogs or gets hair wrapped round the brushes. We've had it years and I've never had to take the scissors to clear it yet. I've had loads of vacuums (including Dyson which I hated) in my 50 years and this has easily been the best so far, although the Vax Bubble was good with rubble during building work and Henry (demoted) now deals with swarf in DH's workshop.

Floralnomad · 03/04/2022 16:52

@TheNoodlesIncident perhaps you had a dodgy one ours is fab , the only issue is that it’s difficult to attach the tools . Perhaps it was a different model as there are lots of them.
