Dh can go and live in the shed with his beloved dyson

I’m sick to death of the bloody thing.

It doesn’t work. Half way though something clogs. The whole thing has to be taken apart. I’m sick to death of giving it a hair cut once a week (Dyson owners will know what I mean).

The charge never lasts that long. The bloody head has to be changed for the hard floor and that head is next to useless, anything other than a large speck of dust makes it stop working.

When he bought the bloody thing, he said he would do all the vacuuming. But a hairy cat and three children including a toddler who is incapable of keeping anything on a plate means that I do end up using it when he’s working.

His Grandmother has had to move in to a care home and MIL has asked if we want the Shark that they bought her last year. I’ve bitten hand off (do you like the shark reference).

Dh is sulking saying he wants to keep his dyson. He loves it. It’s the bestest vacuum cleaner ever.

It doesn’t sound like he loves the bastard thing when he’s on the kitchen swearing at it halfway though cleaning the house trying to find out why it’s stopped working for the 6th time, but what do I know.

I’m having the shark and he can either like it or run off into the sunset with his beloved dyson and i’ll read about how “I married my vacuum cleaner” in Take a Break.

Yep mine is a temperamental bastard too, and causes much sweating and sweating. It just gets blocked ALL THE TIME.

Fucking Dyson. I should have learned. I had an old upright 20yrars ago and after it being repaired about 4 times I just left it on the doorstep and someone nicked it. Happy day that was.

uggmum · 03/04/2022 10:11

I hated my dyson. It never seemed to work properly. I ended up returning it to Costco for a full refund.

I bought a cordless shark and I love it.

mynameiscalypso · 03/04/2022 10:12

My DH is obsessed with Dyson as well. My particular bugbear is the fans. They're shit. But because they're Dyson, we have to use them and can't just buy a cheaper fan that would be 100 times better.

The best vacuum ive ever had is an Amazon branded one.
Never an issue with it, strong power succion and the price! It was only £40!

I’ve had a Dyson too but can’t say it was anywhere as good as my cheap cheap Amazon one….

watcherintherye · 03/04/2022 10:12

I have Shark as the winner of worst vacuum ever made - dirty temperamental flashy thing that it is.

Well, I’m with you on the ‘flashy’, but you’ve got to admit the headlights are v handy for hoovering in the dark, should you feel the need!

Kurtanforpm · 03/04/2022 10:13

Yes, it’s a cordless one. It’s about 3 years old. It was a big purchase for us, which I am sure is part of it for tight arse. If he had to suck up the dirt himself he’d still say he loved it rather than admit he wasted a lot of money.

I have fantasies of putting it in the car boot and burying it in a forrest in the dead of night.

@ZaraSizeMedium

I’m in need of a new vacuum, have you tried the Shark yet, what’s it like?
Don't do it. Fills up within 30 seconds as the dust container is the size of a cup. You inhale a cloud of dust every time you empty it, the dust container is always filthy, and cleaning the filter is the worst job. Buy a Sebo - bag hardly ever needed emptying, it purrs along and will last for ever.
AlisonDonut · 03/04/2022 10:15

My OH has 3 different vacuums. He does the hoovering. I have one, rechargeable mini wet and dry one that I use in the shed. His best hoover is a Bosch rechargeable. I leave the house when he starts it up.

Hope that helps.

NerdyBird · 03/04/2022 10:15

My dyson is fine. You do need to clean the filter every now and then. Also don't need to change heads between hard floor and carpet, surely that's one of the main points?

Lemonlemon88 · 03/04/2022 10:16

We have a plug in dyson which is grear, you do need to clean the filter every now and again though

Hollywolly1 · 03/04/2022 10:16

I got rid of my Dyson years ago ,charge running out drove me nuts soooo I recently got myself the shark (corded) omg its sooo brilliant obviously never runs out of charge and I loved it so much I bought a second one for upstairs (no need) .It folds in half beside the socket in my main hall and 10m cord far reaching. It doesn't screech on the hard floors like regular vacuum heads can.The suction power is better than any vacuum.I think its my first time to fall in love with an object🤣

EatSleepRantRepeat · 03/04/2022 10:16

Maybe some people just get sucked in by the top-gear type explanations of the engineering in the ads. DH was asking me if I wanted a Dyson Hairdryer or air wrap until I told him it was over £400!

Tobacco · 03/04/2022 10:19

I used to have a Henry which I hated. I was delighted when it eventually died. I now have a Miele cat and dog which is better. I still have to give it hair cuts but that's the type of roller head, which do work well.

shreddednips · 03/04/2022 10:21

Everything about this post is relatable. My husband is also enamoured with our shitty cordless dyson (not quite as enamoured as yours though) and the amount of time spent huffing and puffing trying to get it working properly drives me bananas. Maybe my DH and your DH are soulmates.

EthelTheAardvark · 03/04/2022 10:22

We had a Dyson once - you couldn't pay me to have one now. Same thing, it was constantly clogging. It's just an outstandingly poor design.

Fraaahnces · 03/04/2022 10:25

I have a VERY long-haired dog and two teenaged mermaids. (DH is also shedding, but it’s permanent and won’t affect me forever.) I have an older Shark and it’s bloody awesome, but it doesn’t have the thing that cuts the hair that tangles around the spinny brush. I spend hours resuscitating it with nail scissors. Meanwhile, I have murdered several Dysons.

Bostonbullsmumma · 03/04/2022 10:25

Yes I hated the dyson- we had the handheld then a proper pet one- both clog- cutting all the hair out always made my DH moan at me! He loved it- I couldn't take it any longer and bought my old Henry out of retirement! Never would I buy a dyson again!

elfycat · 03/04/2022 10:25

I have long hair. My 2 DDs have long hair. We have 3 cats one of whom is a half Maine Coon long haired critter.

The bloody Dyson...

apparently it was an 'animal' one and would be the BestThingEver (TM)

I've just read you OP out to DH (giggling) and he sighed and admitted that after 15 years it might be time to retire it!

Thank you OP. I mean really, really thank you. I might be allowed to go and get the Shark of my dreams now.

80sballetgirl · 03/04/2022 10:26

Had a cordless Dyson - absolutely rubbish! The charge barely lasted, hated it.

Replaced with a plug in Shark & I LOVE it!

Theunamedcat · 03/04/2022 10:26

The shark couldn't cope with my house constantly had to cut the hair off antiwrap my arse I bought a second hand Dyson it needs the occasional trim as we have long hair but it's fortnightly as apposed to every ten minutes like the shark yes its a heavy noisy bastard but it gets the dirt up nicely I would never buy cordless and I did research my Dyson its one of the older ball models which is way better than the new ones

Sennedd · 03/04/2022 10:28

Can anyone help the poster out? What can you hoover up that would ruin the Dyson beyond repair?

elfycat · 03/04/2022 10:28

What about opening a man-cafes. MNetters run each branch where we live. Dysons on the wall as decoration. Vintage Dysons available to use (small carpeted areas for demos). I can see this being a very real niche.

rwalker · 03/04/2022 10:28

Have both

Chickenkorma64 · 03/04/2022 10:30

We’ve had 2 different corded dysons, both rubbish considering the cost. They live in the cupboard under the stairs while Henry gets the job done with minimum fuss!

GirlsTalk250 · 03/04/2022 10:32

I like mine. 4 years in and a hairy dog later, it’s never clogged.
