If there was a general election tomorrow and you were an ordinary woman on an average wage..

Who would you really vote for ? A party wishy washy on self ID and other trans issues with a gobby brash deputy leader who puts her foot in it and a lacking in charisma but well meaning leader or a party that implemented austerity, savage cuts to all public services, oversaw the deaths of 150,000, deceitful, pork barrel politics, corrupt, but with a teflon coated populist leader, plummy voiced slick mps and a less wishy washy stance on self ID (although not necessarily to be trusted)
What is most important to women earning £30,000 who are going to be hugely affected by the spiralling cost of living, struggling to heat their homes, feed their kids ? Issues very much the result of conservative policies like brexit, austerity etc or trans issues ?
I'm not pro self ID but not cat in hells chance I'd ever vote tory either. Their past record is not erased just because they say they know what a woman is. I'm addressing this to average earners too as they are on the front line.

This is an existential crisis for women. And it’s not a single issue. The people most affected in a recession are women. Their jobs get ditched, more of their income goes on basics, their care responsibilities get harder as hard choices are made with limited income. Everything gets harder for women. A party which doesn’t know what a woman is cannot deliver healthcare, fight crime, combat sexual inequality or support those in poverty in any meaningful way. And I’m not comfortable with any party which can’t prioritise people over ideology.

TidyDancer · 02/04/2022 19:20

I'm politically homeless. I pretty much fit the criteria in the OP.

I would usually vote Labour but self-ID/women's rights is the hill I am prepared to die on so unless Labour do a huge 180° and confirm they understand basic biology they won't be getting my vote anytime soon.

Also can't bring myself to vote Tory. Aside from them being the lowest of the low anyway for all the reasons already given on the thread, my MP is a snobby vile piece of work who knowingly appoints bullies to work for her.

I may take inspiration from this thread and sticker my ballot paper.

Dinosauria · 02/04/2022 19:21

@LadyCatStark

I am that woman and I’d vote labour, just as many woman as men will be freezing and hungry under the conservatives however they are defined.
Under Labour the woman would be expected to set fire to themselves to warm the man up

@mudgetastic

I amn't sure that labour have the balls to actually sort the problem

Huge wealth redistribution
Huge investment in green self sufficiency
Whilst keeping the people who fund them and their rich buddies happy

There wasn't much to distinguish labour from Tory the last time they were in

True.

But now we know for an absolute fact that one of these two parties will happily screw us over even further and thinks we’re at best working purely for the benefit of their personal coffers and at worst an inconvenience to lucrative personal deals.

BJ being questioned on the 15% drop in exports in comparison to other EU countries taking into consideration post-covid/brexit basically said if people want to recoup that they’ll work harder for it. Neglects a few fairly pressing issues preventing people from doing that.

The chancellors wife received payouts in the millions from Russian interests at a time Britain is publicly issuing sanctions and crowing about how much we’ve done in comparison to other countries - sprinting past the point it’s because we’ve got far more to sanction due to their fondness of Russian ‘deals’.

ilovesooty · 02/04/2022 19:24

Any amount of comments about being politically homeless or spoiling ballots don't disguise such posters in many constituencies being complicit in being prepared to facilitate the Conservative party being reelected.

TheIsaacs · 02/04/2022 19:24

I think they’re all shit, but I’d have to vote Labour, because I’d rather try to have the conversation about trans rights than see people starve or freeze to death.

Nidan2Sandan · 02/04/2022 19:24

I couldn't with any sense of morality and as a woman vote for Labour.

For the sake of my daughters futures.

I used to be a Tory supporter, till Boris was our option.

I'm lost now. But gun to my head, I suppose Tory. Anything to protect us from Labour.

Hertsgirl10 · 02/04/2022 19:25

Labour.

Anyone that would vote Tory but have slept for at least the last 3 years.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 02/04/2022 19:26

The thought of Angela Raynor just no , absolute trash

Nice way to describe a woman who left school at 16 and worked her way up. How do you define someone who isn’t trash?

urbanbuddha · 02/04/2022 19:26

Labour has to shout out that trans rights don't trump women's rights.
Of course the Tories aren't better for women generally. They couldn't care less about the average woman on the average salary but they know a vote-winning policy when they see one.

LangClegsInSpace · 02/04/2022 19:27

@BordoisAgain

I voted for the Monster Raving Loony party last time round and would do so again if they had someone in the next election
We ended up at their annual conference on my honeymoon, it was an absolute blast!
clkim · 02/04/2022 19:28

Labour.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 02/04/2022 19:28

probably Labour. The tories are absolute scum.

DancingChairs · 02/04/2022 19:28

What does Labour actually stand for? Being not-Tory?

NannyGythaOgg · 02/04/2022 19:29

Labour have lost another voter here.

I can't vote for a party that doesn't understand basic biology.

RinklyRomaine · 02/04/2022 19:29

Absolutely this. Women have been disproportionately affected by austerity, lockdowns etc., we needed a strong, focussed LP to stand up for us, and what have we got? A party who not only refuses to acknowledge the reality of womens lives and difficulties but actively insults those desperately fighting to keep such basic rights so recently won. It's a mammoth betrayal.
ikeepseeingit · 02/04/2022 19:30

Labour. As far as I can tell the conservative stance on gender is much the same. I’d rather afford to eat.

AhNowTed · 02/04/2022 19:30

I rather focus on Labour policies that introduced the minimum wage, provided Sure Start which benefitted millions of women, which the Tories closed of course.

The Tories have done absolutely nothing for women or struggling families.

On the contrary, they'd rather and blatantly line the pockets of their already rich donors.

I despair of some of these responses.

Gosh Angela Rayners a bit common. FFS!

Bagadverts · 02/04/2022 19:31

In my area Labour which is the party that could win over the Conservatives. Over the broad range of issues that affect the country
The Tories care for the rich and powerful, no need to wonder about it I’ve seen them in operation.

The trans issue is just not a make or break issue for me. Self I’d could have dangerous consequences but so can the myriad of things - there need to be more police to investigate all rape. The vital space of women’s refuges are beginning not to exist for anyone.

Someone who's not Angela Raynor?
SweetPetrichor · 02/04/2022 19:31

I’d vote SNP, as always. My interest lies in a drive for independence.

urbanbuddha · 02/04/2022 19:32

Any amount of comments about being politically homeless or spoiling ballots don't disguise such posters in many constituencies being complicit in being prepared to facilitate the Conservative party being reelected.

You speak as if people should ignore policies which gravely concern them. As if women's rights were a secondary concern to be consigned to the sidelines. Labour should be listening to voters not telling them how to think.

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 02/04/2022 19:32

@user1471447924

A vote for any party other than Labour is a vote for the Tories.
I'd add that a spoiled vote is a vote for the Tories and everything they stand for. The Tory voters turn out in large numbers regardless. In part, that is what is behind their success. If you spoil your ballot you may as well vote for them, and vote for corruption, poverty, and poorer outcomes for your children.
Dinosauria · 02/04/2022 19:32

Lib Dem lost their support on the basis of tuition fees no one questions that.

Where are the Lib Dems BTW? Has anyone heard from them, even the Greens have been quiet. Where is the passion for change?

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 02/04/2022 19:33

I won't be voting. Makes no difference as our MP gets nearly 50% of the total number of registered voters and had well over 50% of the actual vote.
I used to turn out for every vote.
