Who would you really vote for ? A party wishy washy on self ID and other trans issues with a gobby brash deputy leader who puts her foot in it and a lacking in charisma but well meaning leader or a party that implemented austerity, savage cuts to all public services, oversaw the deaths of 150,000, deceitful, pork barrel politics, corrupt, but with a teflon coated populist leader, plummy voiced slick mps and a less wishy washy stance on self ID (although not necessarily to be trusted)
What is most important to women earning £30,000 who are going to be hugely affected by the spiralling cost of living, struggling to heat their homes, feed their kids ? Issues very much the result of conservative policies like brexit, austerity etc or trans issues ?
I'm not pro self ID but not cat in hells chance I'd ever vote tory either. Their past record is not erased just because they say they know what a woman is. I'm addressing this to average earners too as they are on the front line.

I have no idea, I'm still bitterly disappointed by the performance of the lib dems in the coalition government and their subsequent collapse. My local council has been tory for many years and are very well run, their services are good value and are run well on the whole, and my tory MP is helpful. My mums council is a very safe labour seat but riven with corruption, the councillors and MP are never held to account for anything and have a stinking great chip on their shoulder (think Andy Burnham at his most belligerent and condescending).

However I can't vote Tory because of the way they treat the disabled, my conscience won't allow me to do it, and the Green party have too many extreme ideologists within it, who are too wedded to their ideals to make the compromises needed for the economy and the poorest in our communities.

There is no-one I'd describe as sensible centrist at the moment, so as a swing voter I think I may end up going for a well-researched independent like I did last time.

But I mean, this whole thread is a moot point, when have Labour been politically astute enough to gain a majority? 20+ years ago? They certainly aren't able to now - losing generations-old seats and blaming the voters for being stupid instead of recognising how deeply ineffectual and unelectable they are. I'm no tory voter but Labour have let us down in all areas and I am angry about it.

AtrociousCircumstance · 02/04/2022 19:51

Don’t tar vote spoilers with your own brush. Women are completely betrayed by Labour. That is not nothing.

I don’t know what I’ll do. The Tories are repugnant. But Labour have completely undermined their values by capitulating to the terrifying misogyny of trans activism.

@VioletCharlotte children are literally starving…

@ilovesooty

Any amount of comments about being politically homeless or spoiling ballots don't disguise such posters in many constituencies being complicit in being prepared to facilitate the Conservative party being reelected.
You’ve made several comments of this theme. I’m a life long labour voter, it makes me weep how they have behaved towards women but also Keir Starmer is a huge disappointment, how has he convinced anyone that he is a true party leader who will take this country out of the shit. I won’t be voting for them this time and I won’t be voting Tory. If that means the Tories get into power then that is not my doing it is ENTIRELY the fault of the Labour Party for not making me and others want to vote for them. I’m not going to vote against my own interests or those of women throughout the country.
Gilead · 02/04/2022 19:54

frankly I am appalled at any women that who is willing to give away these rights.
Frankly I’m appalled at this being your moralistic issue when you choose to vote for a party on the moral wilderness, a chancellor who lies about his car, health secretaries giving money to mates. Ministers doing fuck all about a 54% utilities rise, whilst other European countries have blocked utility companies at 4%. But your morals prevents you from voting for health and security for a huge proportion of the population. I’m unimpressed.

ilovesooty · 02/04/2022 19:54

I'll tar vote spoilers as I please. Unless they choose that gesture in a constituency where it is ineffective I have my opinion about them and it isn't going to change.

FelicityPike · 02/04/2022 19:55

SNP all day, every day.

mudgetastic · 02/04/2022 19:55

I don't see anything that says labour are actually going to be any better

AtrociousCircumstance · 02/04/2022 19:55

Then your thinking is as rigid and unempathic as the Tories you claim to hate.

Thursday37 · 02/04/2022 19:59

Conservative- but I am less than impressed with them on the whole. But never Labour.
I do like our MP though (Conservative), she’s actually quite good locally.

Gilead · 02/04/2022 20:00

Malnutrition deaths in the U.K. were 352 in 2019 some being primary cause and a larger percentage being contributart.
8,500 people died due to ‘cold homes in 2020.
Obviously not including homeless deaths.

If you mean France, as I understand it EDF Energy is nationalised within France, so their government is able to do this. Its the UK arm that is privatised. I wouldn't want to do business or live in a country where the government decides which companies are allowed to make a profit or not based on public opinion - stakeholders of publicly-owned companies on the stock exchange are quite often "normal people's" pension funds.

If the government were to reduce the ludicrous amount of duty on petrol, that is in their remit - all businesses from small single-cleaners through to Amazon have petrol/diesel costs to charge for, either directly or indirectly.

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/04/2022 20:05

@PastMyBestBeforeDate

I won't be voting. Makes no difference as our MP gets nearly 50% of the total number of registered voters and had well over 50% of the actual vote. I used to turn out for every vote.
All is not lost @PastMyBestBeforeDate. Remember North Shropshire? You can do it too.Grin💪
RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 02/04/2022 20:05

@DancingChairs

What does Labour actually stand for? Being not-Tory?
Apparently
AuntieMaggie · 02/04/2022 20:10

People are literally starving and it will only get worse under this Government - how can people not see that? That families where both parents have good jobs need to go to a good bank because of the rising costs? If you seriously think that voting for this Government is ok then please spend some time in food banks, churches, schools etc listening to peoples stories. It's heartbreaking.

LangClegsInSpace · 02/04/2022 20:11

For those worried about women's rights, lib dems, greens and snp are all even worse than labour.

Also, of course, the tories are shit on women's rights but for different reasons.

I want to vote labour, I have done so for most of my life, but if the only reason they can give me to vote for them is to tell me I'm a horrible person if I don't then no thank you.

Labour need to come up with a better offer. It's not my fault if they're unelectable.

Williamshatnershorses · 02/04/2022 20:12

@HappyPumpkin81

I'd vote tactically for the Conservatives as it is the only option in our area to get rid of the reigning SNP. There is not a single political party that actually offers me representation. Ideally what I would like is a hung parliament.
Same. It’s an absolute shite state of affairs when my best option is to vote for one shower of arseholes to get out an even bigger shower of lunatics. There’s no one who I want to make a positive choice for.
BlackeyedSusan · 02/04/2022 20:18

Who knows? Possibly independent.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 02/04/2022 20:21

Things could get very bad if women's spaces aren't protected and women's rights in general aren't protected. We need protection and I believe this is vitally important and as important as the economy. I'd never vote tory, but I won't be voting Labour either unless they change their stance on women. I'll just spoil my ballot paper.

user1497787065 · 02/04/2022 20:23

Where I live with he choice is Tory or Liberal Democrat. An even more difficult choice to make.

ilovesooty · 02/04/2022 20:26

That would be the case in my home town. If I still lived there I'd be voting for the Liberal Democrats.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 02/04/2022 20:28

Where i live the last election results were approx 32k for tory and 9k for labour (over an 8%droo from the last election)

I’m gonna hazard a guess at tories getting in again

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 02/04/2022 20:28

Conservative.

Kreuzberg · 02/04/2022 20:29

@CatDogMonkeyPOW absolutely. How you can be remotely left wing but vote tory on the basis of one policy is unbelievable. Believe in a degree of state ownership of public services but also think rampant free market ideology is a good thing, again bollocks.
I actually think labour are doing a bit of a U turn on self ID. See wes streetings remarks. If johnson can be trusted so should labour...
