Who would you really vote for ? A party wishy washy on self ID and other trans issues with a gobby brash deputy leader who puts her foot in it and a lacking in charisma but well meaning leader or a party that implemented austerity, savage cuts to all public services, oversaw the deaths of 150,000, deceitful, pork barrel politics, corrupt, but with a teflon coated populist leader, plummy voiced slick mps and a less wishy washy stance on self ID (although not necessarily to be trusted)
What is most important to women earning £30,000 who are going to be hugely affected by the spiralling cost of living, struggling to heat their homes, feed their kids ? Issues very much the result of conservative policies like brexit, austerity etc or trans issues ?
I'm not pro self ID but not cat in hells chance I'd ever vote tory either. Their past record is not erased just because they say they know what a woman is. I'm addressing this to average earners too as they are on the front line.

What the simple question is showing is Starmer not being able to give a straight answer and trying to please a small minority

This will absolutely come back on him. It’s a simple question. At times he can’t sit on the fence and try to please everyone he needs to think of votes

Of course the Tories are taking advantage of this that’s how politics plays out

LangClegsInSpace · 04/04/2022 18:51

I feel that you could have a debate about this with Keir Starmer and your opinion would be considered.

Well then he needs to stop ignoring the women's groups who have been requesting such a discussion for years.

He also needs to condemn the intimidation of any women who attempt to have such a discussion, including those in the labour party, including labour MPs, by members of his own party.

If he did those two things then that would be real progress.

doeadeeer · 04/04/2022 19:00

Labour.

I dislike the self id stance and the ridiculousness of not being able to articulate what a woman is, but the other social issues aren't trumped by that for me. We need a more left wing government in power. People are living in dire situations.

@zaffa

I am that voter. I'd love to vote SNP but sadly DH is holding firm on not relocating to Scotland. I live in an awful Tory stronghold so I doubt my vote will make a difference, but on the off chance it does. I will vote Labour.
Why on earth would you want vote SNP?

Under their devolved government, Scotland has the highest drug deaths Scotland has ever had. 10,000 deaths in 14 years.

Under the SNP, Scottish education has declined so much the SNP took Scotland out of the international PISA testing.

One look at Sturgeon's constituency of Govanhill and you'll see further examples too.

These are just two examples of SNP mismanagement. That's what happens when independence is more important to a Nationalist party.

Xenia · 04/04/2022 19:29

Conservative, the best party and best policies for a whole range of reasons.

Dinosauria · 04/04/2022 19:37

The kowtoe to a vocal minority is what makes him unelectable. If he is able to disregard 50% of the population because of Twitter fury, what else will he do. I'm not on a mission to support the Conservatives I agree that they are lying, self serving and odious but at least I know what I'm getting. Kier has no substance and no backbone and if anyone is allowed to identify as a woman we will have a generation of women damaged. Yes I am a one issue voter, lots vote Greens for climate change. (Well when the Greens cared about the climate)

Mybumisfluffierthanyours · 04/04/2022 19:38

Xenia I'm really interested to know what specific policies you find are working for you currently?

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 04/04/2022 19:43

I think I’m actually still going to vote Tory. I want Labour to have a bit more of a kicking so they finally remember they should listen to the electorate they are trying to woo. They’re not ready to be in government and letting them in now before things like the defence of sex based right is cemented would be disastrous.

Once they’ve expelled identity politics and returned to at least a basic understanding of science, rational thought and the law, I might switch back.

TheDogsMother · 04/04/2022 19:49

For the first time in my voting life sadly I don't feel I can vote at all.

Dinosauria · 04/04/2022 20:09

DogsMother you have to vote, otherwise they think it is apathy. A spoiled vote is better than nothing.

HRTQueen · 04/04/2022 20:14

Well many votes Tory because they voted to Leave the EU many people do vote on one issue

Last Labour leader couldn’t decide where the party stood regarding the EU now the current leader can’t decide what a woman is

Labour always need to work harder to win voters they need to set out clearly what they stand for at the moment its not clear

And agree Starmer has no backbone we need another leader problem is I can’t think of anyone

Do you think the Tories are listening to the voters? What have they done/doing to help pensioners, the unemployed, education, police, NHS, sick and disabled. Their failures are never ending particularly if you remember the Covid deaths and the lies over Partygate. My very polite and mild mannered father said when he left the U.K. to move back to his home country that Margaret Thatcher was the most wicked person alive.
OnlyTheBravest · 04/04/2022 20:21

Whilst the Tories are horrendous, the opposition parties are nowhere near ready to manage the UK. Labour refuses to listen to other points of view, branding everyone thick, racist or transphobic. If they can not handle the Twitter mob in regards to self-id effectively, then I do not hold out much hope for them being able to handle more serious/complex issues.

On top of that my local MP's (all Labour) might as well be Conservatives as they have run my Borough into the ground, whilst lining their pockets and their mates pockets to the point that the police is looking into the level of fraud that has gone on. Ordinary people including women are suffering as services are being severely constricted to claw back funds. Personally, I am not convinced Labour is the better option.

HRTQueen · 04/04/2022 20:25

The Tories listened to voters on Brexit that was the largest vote

So it’s can’t be said they don’t listen to voters.

Labour need to prove themselves that they are and not just what’s going on within the Labour Party and spats on social media.

TheGratefulBread · 04/04/2022 20:26

As it stands, I'd probably spoil my ballot.

I want to able to vote Labour, but the whole self ID thing leaves me cold, and I'm still not entirely sure the party has completely fixed its antisemitism problem (although steps have been taken).

I couldn't vote Tory. Lib Dems also aren't on the side of women. Green Party also has an antisemitism problem.

So yep, spoiling my ballot, as it stands now.

I imagine leave voters have woken up to realise they were conned especially the voters in NI. Who will forget the prorogation of Parliament and the lies over the £350m. Brexit won’t help the Tories at the next election.

Will be interesting to see if Boris survives Partygate and his lies in the HoC.

ALL the tory policies work for Xenia!

Are you new around here? Grin

LangClegsInSpace · 04/04/2022 20:39

The left has a terrible misogyny problem. The right also has a terrible misogyny problem. None of this is new.

HRTQueen · 04/04/2022 20:46

Of course he will survive party gate that’s old news now not even second in headlines

He has the best excuse ever Covid

Labour need to concentrate on what they are doing not what Tories are not and at this point in time many just don’t know

Boris Johnson isn’t going anywhere soon and it would be foolish to write him off a few more mistakes by Starmer will see another easy win for the Tories

DownNative · 04/04/2022 21:11

Oh wow.....Thatcher the most wicked person alive?

What, more wicked than the SF/PIRA murderers responsible for more than 2,000 murders including turning Patsy Gillespie into a human bomb?

More wicked than Saddam Hussein? Gaddafi?,

Jesus wept.....

Parker231 · 04/04/2022 21:15

@DownNative - my father left the U.K. at the height of Thatcher’s destructive years - his comments were relevant at that time.

isquashedthedog · 04/04/2022 21:20

Labour

Xenia · 04/04/2022 21:21

Mybumisfluffierthanyours, I posted it so people do realise there are Tory supporters out there. However this Tory party is very very high tax and very high spend and like Labour in favour of much red tape and the covid laws we had and not too keen on internet freedom so it is certainly not the low tax, small state, more freedoms Tory party I would prefer but simply better than Labour on most of those issues.

As to which parts of the policies are working for me? 1. Mrs May agreed to leave the gender change laws alone (Labour is going to change them). 2. Labour plans to take vast amounts of money away from people in extra taxes and for those of us who had to move to London to get work in effect almost confiscate our houses with very high new property taxes. 3. Labour tends not to like the defence spending the country needs to protect itself against Russia. 4. Labour is very woke left rather than liberal left.

TheDogsMother · 04/04/2022 21:25

You are right but who ?
Subbaxeo · 04/04/2022 21:30

Labour. Am not that interested in culture wars. I don’t care that well meaning politicians flounder when asked provocative questions. And Angela Rayner maybe hobby-am not a fan of her style-but she has achieved so much from her poor start in life and that impresses me a lot more than Rishi Sunak’s billions or Bojo’s Eton education.
