Interesting that Blinken and now Liz truss have spoken about sanctions being lifted if Russia withdraw. I do feel like there has been a shift over the last couple of days hopefully towards de escalation.

When talking about Ukrainien casualties I did wander how they would distinguis between civilians and people that have taken up arms to protect their country.

WeAreTheHeroes · 27/03/2022 08:24

Certainly food for thought on the on the ground consequences of sanctions in Russia.

The mayor of Lviv gave a press conference after yesterday's attack on the oil storage depot there. To paraphrase he said the Russians did it because they could and due to the proximity of Lviv to Poland.

Thank you for the new thread. Also a lurker but been reading with interest this morning.
I think that this is becoming a saving face exercise for Putin now. I'm not worried about nukes anymore, I'm more worried about how long this will drag on and how many more people will die.

elephantmarchingin · 27/03/2022 08:45

Zelensky this morning 'He said Ukraine needed just 1% of Nato's tanks and aircraft.
"We did not ask for more. And we do not ask for more. And we have already been waiting for 31 days!"'

Again with the planes, I know he is desperate but he seems ok with dragging us all into war!

I also find it interesting that it has started again after Biden's visit to Poland. Wonder if it was talked about there

TokyoSushi · 27/03/2022 08:45

Checking in! I've lost track a bit the last few days but thanks to all of the regular posters.

WeAreTheHeroes · 27/03/2022 08:51

@elephantmarchingin - it's a negotiation. You ask for more than you think you'll get.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 27/03/2022 10:08

Thanks for the new thread and for everyone's contribution. It has been refreshing to read informed, substantiated posts and posts where people have felt able to be honest about their thoughts and feelings. There's been debate and scrutiny on a deeply emotive topic but respect has for the most part been maintained. And finally, for me, it has been my go to these past weeks and has helped me better understand this unfolding tragedy and to keep calm. So thanks to everyone 🙏

ItsDisneyBitch · 27/03/2022 10:10

Thank you for the thread these have been keeping me grounded.

I’ve noticed how in some national newspapers the headlines are being shifted down the page. I’m looking at you daily mail Angry

prettybird · 27/03/2022 10:18

For a bit of humour in an otherwise (rightly) serious thread, I give you this thread..... Grin
