silkie, I shouldn't have ventede on this thread considering your travails are potentially worse than my own. The scary bit is the abscess is on my pancreas, hence the rush in getting me tested. As I spent half last week in hospital due to pain in the region, I am more than a little apprehansive about the outcome. Never mind, what will be will be.

I have two lots of antibiotics, Metronidazole and Co-amoxiclav, the tablets are massive and I am unable to swallow them as they stick in my narrow oesophagus. So I might be back in hospital going on IV versions of the drugs. Oh well... That would probably be better, but I'm in a Covid hotspot and might soon be immuno-compromised.

Yes I am scared but will face it all with your good wishes ringing in my ears. Thank you all. If you got through that pile of self pitying shite without vomiting you're a better person than me. Vomiting is another effect of my illness, which they're saying is caused by excessive drinking. I did used to drink, probably too much but have stopped, and haven't touched alcohol for about a month. Maybe it's giving it up that's causing the problem :o

DoctorTwo · 03/04/2022 22:59

it would appear we x-posted Miss

Silkierabbit · 04/04/2022 06:10

Flowers that sounds awful DoctorTwo and hope they can find a solution that does not require an operation. There is a lady on the cancer thread who has just gone through a Whipple operation which I think included part of the pancreas and had a long recovery time though she is back home now, would it be that operation? Not that I have any medical knowledge though now I get medical things all the time so you start to pick up bits but I mainly know about chemo, radio and breast cancer and adrenal issues. I also get nervous about getting covid in hospital, can avoid it elsewhere but it is so busy at the hospital and some people are there coughing away. I just gel everything, get some strange looks but its kept me covid free so far. Quite a few of the staff are going down with it as well. In theory can get anti-virals but I am not even on the CEV list yet though at least they can go from lateral flow now. Feel free to join my moaning away, we need to change it to dull, exciting and medical moaning thread. Grin At least I can stop/reduce the chemo if it gets too bad as its borderline for doing, I have a review on 7th. Have it at 3pm today. The bleeding/gastric I think its a case of getting meds right which should come with time, its the neuropathy / dental / eye which need to be more closer monitored as can be permanent.

Just heard the silkie borking twice, I suspect rabbit is trying to steal her food. DD goes to Paris on Wednesday for a week.

sueelleker · 04/04/2022 08:17

@DoctorTwo; can you ask for the antibiotics in liquid form? I know they make them.

MissConductUS · 04/04/2022 14:48

DoctorTwo, I'm sorry to hear that. The abscess may be causing the vomiting but drinking can damage the GI tract so it may be a combination. Have they told you your prognosis is poor for some reason? The surgery to remove the abscess is not especially risky, particularly if they can do it endoscopically. Is your appointment for an abdominal CT scan or an ultrasound, or have those already been done?

I am working at home, waiting for the appliance repair bloke. I had to take DH to work early and will have to pick him up later when my car is ready so that we can get it home tonight. The good news is that the pizza DH made Friday is still in the freezer and we can have it tonight if the oven gets fixed.

Sorry @DoctorTwo and I too hope they can find a solution which doesn’t require an operation.

I’m on my first day of unemployment after being forced to resign from my contract job last week. I’ve also got a nasty cold which appears to have got worse overnight (not covid) so I’m taking vitamin c and zinc and lemsip.

@MissConductUS - I hope the appliance engineer turns up soon and lucky you have the pizza from last Friday.

I’ll probably have an easy dinner of either the frozen pasta knocchi with frozen spinach and mushrooms sautéed or Pukka pie vegan minced beef with small potato and veggies.

Lemonsandlemonade · 04/04/2022 17:47

@DoctorTwo sending 💐.

Sorry to hear about your job @Gonnagetgoing

My birthday today. Had a lovely birthday cake from DH and DS. Carrot cake which is my fave 😀

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/04/2022 18:12

The rain has arrived.
They have dropped compulsory FFP2 masks but about 80% are wearing them anyway (shops, schools rtc.). DD thinks it ought to be common courtesy not to spray people with your cold (the youth of today is so 'adult' Smile).

DS has to prepare a power point presentation fot the 7th, tomorrow is a technical check. Did he start? Of course not.

MissConductUS · 04/04/2022 18:12

The oven was quickly repaired and I am back at work. DH was correct, it needed the igniter replaced. Nice bloke, I'm glad we found him for any future repairs. He saw our pizza stone, so we talked about pizza as he makes his own too. I gave him a can of our favorite pizza sauce to try. We get it by the case from Amazon.

I'm sorry to hear about your job ending, Gonna. The labor market here is hot and employers are raising wages. Hopefully it's the same where you are.

Happy Birthday Lemons! Cake

Weekend news here. DS tried to get into Men's Wearhouse to rent a suit for prom, but the queue was out the door. He also went to the mall with his girlfriend and about 5 of her friends, and they bought themselves prom dresses from Macy's. It makes me happy that things like prom are happening again.

I also went to a school play a couple of weeks ago, and they had the school talent competition show last week. It's so lovely to get to see all these kids performing again. I hope it lasts.

Sunny here all day today and tomorrow with highs in the 50s (F) which is absolutely lovely. Let's not mention the three days of rain that we get later in the week...

gracewitt · 04/04/2022 19:38

On Monday lunchtimes I slip out of the office, take a half-mile walk to go and buy chips and eat them in glorious silence with a magazine. No-one I work with knows about this. Always feels like a real treat but today the chips were particularly good.

MissConductUS · 04/04/2022 21:25

Welcome, @gracewitt, and thanks for sharing your mundane ambulation and snacking news. Now I want some chips. Smile

OP posts:
Champagneforeveryone · 04/04/2022 21:38

I can always be diverted by a good chip grace (hence the recent dilemma over whether to order uniform a size bigger than I am currently in - the jury is still out for the moment on that one)

DS and I are perusing university accommodation. As a fortunate only child / grandchild with a comfortable lifestyle, he is becoming greyer and more drawn by the minute Grin

Silkierabbit · 04/04/2022 21:44

Happy Birthday Lemons

So sorry about your job Gonna hope you can get something else quickly. Not easy times here with inflation skyrocketing.

3rd chemo is done and I am in zombie land. They kept dose same as early on. They took bloods again even though just had them on Thursday, maybe as I passed out briefly, I don't know but they are done again. I have a video with oncologist on 7th, she will see my amazing koala onesie.

The silkie was very noisy today, it was apparently DH she was grumbling about not rabbit, seems to be all boys she has taken a dislike to, they cannot be trusted around food.

MissConductUS · 04/04/2022 23:26

Champagne, one nice thing about American universities is that even the urban ones guarantee university-owned housing for all students. It's costing us about $8k per year for each of them, but it's worth it for the proximity to everything and the fact that the uni takes responsibility for everything. Meals are charged separately from the housing.

Silkie, well done for getting through another treatment.

OP posts:
Nydj · 05/04/2022 09:09

Yesterday was an extension of the weekend in that I did nothing. I am getting used to it a little too much.

I hope they sort out your medical issues doctortwo and it isn’t as serious as you think it may be.

Well done on getting through another chemo session Silkie.

I hope you find some work soon Gonna. Your name is very appropriate for me at the moment Grin.

Champagneforeveryone · 05/04/2022 13:00

Congratulations on week 3 silkies and hoping that you have an uneventful rest of the week Flowers

miss DS will get university accommodation in the first year but has his heart set on studying in London which is ££££s. Truthfully I can see why it makes sense to study there, and he's also a boy from a small village on the south coast. Its completely understandable he's seduced by the bright lights.

We also did a rough weekly shop last night. I received a text an hour ago saying "I'm still speechless at the cost of Marmite" Grin

Silkierabbit · 05/04/2022 16:20

Thanks very much all. Also hoping for an uneventful week and today has been uneventful so 2 days down. I was a little concerned when the doctor said they would only lower the dose if I could not walk, and looked round and saw half the people in there were on crutches, admittedly the average age in there is about 75 but a couple looked in 50s and I said to nurse I want to do something before I can't walk and she said so would I just phone chemo line and they can sort it. Though today I can feel both my legs and my feet, glad to have them back. The doctor also asked was it interfering with my activities and I said my activities are sleeping and going to the bathroom, he said so its not then. Hmm Though don't care too much for the 3 months just don't want permanent damage.

DH just found the bank has sent a statement. We took a very small mortgage out when we bought a second property before selling the first one, now sold and we can pay the final small amount off. The bank have reduced the final charge from £195 to £3.51. I have never seen DH so keen to pay money and run to the computer to get the discount. I have no idea why they reduced it so much, they said due to interest rates. Confused DH has paid it before they change their mind, there was only £700 left so that's a big interest rate reduction. Its good though as that covers the car parking at hospital, DDs Eurostar and our £50 for hotel stay with rest paid by the charity, well hotel owner.

I can understand your DS wanting to study in London Champagne, just hope he is also tempted by the high paying work placements on offer there as well so its not so hard on the bank of Mum and Dad. I am very glad to be out of London now but its great when you are young.

Had a hot cross bun, vanilla yoghurt and a mozzarella and Palma ham omelette today, I need to eat regularly with steroids but so far have lost 1 pound and have normal taste so that is good. I am calories watching though after some people reported massive weight gain but think they must have been comfort eating, can't say I blame them.

HelenaJustina · 05/04/2022 17:16

Happy Birthday for yesterday Lemons hope the rest of the day lived up to the cake!

halfpasteleven · 05/04/2022 22:03

Delighted for you Silkies, what a lovely "windfall" from your bank.
Enjoy every penny. I would have done exactly the same as your DH, no questions asked.

Silkierabbit · 06/04/2022 13:05

Thanks Half

DD has now gone off to Paris, one snipey comment on the way about how she is leaving rubbish things here (that's my chemo) but at least its a week free of sniping and hopefully she will have a good time and return in a less snipey mood. Wink

DH took her to the train station and now she is on train down to London to meet the Eurostar then her aunt will pick her up the other end and she is back next Wednesday.

I am managing to get a few things done thanks to steroids only from bed but still good to be well enough to e-mail and phone people and called the new ESA people today, am just trying to claim now. Was going to manage without from savings but then when parking fine came thought this will help. Just hope there is no issue as was self-employed but was paying NI so think is OK and hope I get in support group but can be backdated 3 months so should get 3 months whatever if eligible. Its either £75 or £115 a week but £75 are expected to do job interviews which am not up to on chemo, also just want self-employed again.

The MP contacted me, they are also chasing council re EHCP though dead atm as Easter. Going to have smoked salmon salad for lunch with a steroid, last one this week. Have a lovely bruise from a cannula, at least think its from a cannula.

MissConductUS · 06/04/2022 14:46

Silkie, I think your DD is being so cantankerous because she thinks it's massively unfair that you are dealing with a serious illness. Unfair to you both, that is. It's not an uncommon reaction, especially with teenagers.

I saw three ducks on the reservoir this morning, all males. They were transients who flew off together a few minutes after I took this picture. I think of them as the duck bros. Smile

The built-in soap dispenser that came with the new kitchen faucet we had put in last fall has failed. DH has diagnosed it as a failed spring in the pump and ordered a new pump assembly from Amazon. It should still be under warranty but the part was only $3. If it's the wrong one we'll have to chase the plumber for a replacement.

Having dodged it for 2years, DD has been struck down by Covid. She is just very tired (which is extremely unusual for her), off her food and sniffly. She has managed some toast and breadsticks today. Isolation is obviously not an option so I expect to be next. Hey ho, c’est la vie.

MissConductUS · 06/04/2022 15:53

Sorry to hear that, Shoes. Do you have a blood oxygen meter, the type that clips onto a fingertip? If not, see if you can get one from Amazon or wherever. It's a good way to check if she's having respiratory issues.

OP posts:
HelenaJustina · 06/04/2022 21:41

All four of my DC have had it shoes one of them has had it twice. They’ve all bounced back super quick after only 24-36 hours under the weather. Only 2/5 cases needed some calpol and that was only a single dose. Fingers crossed your DD is the same!

A child completely trashed a room at work today. I thought the damage was largely cosmetic and was going to pay teen DC to sort it next week but i think they have also damaged the data port for the main printer/copier. Which is going to be much more faff to sort out. Roll on 1.30pm tomorrow when we break up for the holiday!
