Congratulations to your DD Silkie

Helena It dealt with the genetic unlikelihood of a male turing female because of the added chromosome bit, cyborgman and peguins and how to legally watch the classic episodes.

Silkierabbit · 26/03/2022 07:09

Hope you can solve the washing machine Lemons

Hope your furniture paper exhibition remains minimalist Prok

Sounds like a nice art event Helena

I just watched Below Deck Australia, lovely morning here but Silkiecat was fuming with the poor level of DH service, she was awake at 6am and no DH on duty and she has had to wait until 7am for service. Angry Silkiecat with DH but now all is well with the world again as DH is with her given her a breakfast and let her sunbathe.

devildeepbluesea · 26/03/2022 08:28

Morning everyone. Lovely early morning dog walk in the woods done. Even dragged Dd out with us.

My sciatica is bloody agony. I may survive today on ibuprofen and wine.

ooooof · 26/03/2022 09:15

@MissConductUS two little boys. The eldest has just turned four and the youngest is 2.5.

They're currently playing with Lego. Five minutes peace 💖

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/03/2022 09:56

Temperatures are dropping again.
I made bulgur salad.

I caught morose pigeon chomping down on my young borage plants.

Pinklimey · 26/03/2022 10:02

I've just had a dreadful nightmare on repeat for four hours about the Ukraine. Been thrashing around and talking in my sleep. I know it was so long, because it was a puzzle I couldn't fix that first woke me up at 4 or 5 and I finally escaped it at 9.

Champagneforeveryone · 26/03/2022 12:03

It is very windy here today (no big change there then) and we're already mourning the loss of the sunny weather.

DH is ironing downstairs (I can hear the muttered curses) and I am about to get up and have leftover Chinese for breakfast before returning to bed before a run of nights.

We've ordered some wireless outdoor cameras so we can spy on the nest in the porch which is probably a house martens. I've reached the age where this pleases me disproportionately Grin

HelenaJustina · 26/03/2022 13:15

We have swifts above the garage champagne I look forward to their return each year. Just back from 3.5hrs at work. Hoping that’s it for the weekend.

MissConductUS · 26/03/2022 14:27

oooof, those are fun ages. Mine are 22 months apart, so a similar gap. I had a boy first, then a girl. Guess which one was harder work? Smile Legos are brilliant. When the kids were little our journies into NYC always included a stop at the big Lego store in Rockafeller Center.

Welcome, @Pinklimey. I'm sorry to hear about your nightmare.

Champagne, we have two outdoor cameras with floodlights as part of our Ring system and they are the bomb! I see all sorts of wildlife in the yard at night that I didn't know we were getting visits from.

I'm going to do a bit of work in the garden as it's nice now but supposed to rain later today. Next week the forecast is for temps to go back to below freezing for a few days, so it's still too early to pot plants.

@devildeepbluesea, I was diagnosed with sciatica a few months ago. In my case, it's being caused by some arthritis in my lower back. Don't rely on ibuprofen on a regular basis. It will cause stomach ulcers if overused. Ask your doctor to let you try gabapentin, 100mg twice a day.

Gabapentin (Oral Route)

It's been a godsend for me, really helpful.

By the way, for all of the new posters, since I am not a typical Mumsneter, here's a bit about me. I'm an American who has never been to the UK, though my DH used to live there. I first heard about MN in a article in The Economist five or six years ago. I live a bit north of New York City in this area:

The Hudson Highlands

I'm an HCP, have two kids in uni (which is eye wateringly expensive here) and been happily married for 25 years. DH, who is a really good egg, has promised to show me London at some point, which I'm really looking forward to.

And speaking of DH, he's gone off to a work event for the day, so I have some very rare alone time in the house. I'll probably clean out the upright freezer in the garage then ring my boyfriend to see if he can come over.

Just kidding. Grin

Thanks for the new thread, MissC, and welcome to the newcomers. I don’t post all that often but I lurk and read everything!

It was a lovely day today - the weather’s been really fine, sunny and warm for most of the week - so we had all the doors open and pottered in and out of the garden. DH has been doing some much overdue DIY, and I got my rotavator out of the garden shed and rotavated my veg patch. I can’t dig properly any more since I had a frozen shoulder a few years ago, and unfortunately it’s left me with a permanently-knackered arm which gets very painful if I try to use it too much.

Then I swept out the greenhouse and generally titivated things. Yesterday I potted on my tomato seedlings. I need to think about what else I want to grow this year (I’m lucky to have a big garden with a veg patch).

Roast chicken for dinner tonight.

Champagneforeveryone · 26/03/2022 19:19

We are nearly £200 down at the vets following a set of blood tests on DDog1 who presented as having possible thyroid issues.

The damming result is he's in perfectly good health, just fat Hmm

Holothane · 26/03/2022 19:20

Finally got some sleep also ordering next week e pedal machine it folds right down so can be taken anywhere.

Silkierabbit · 26/03/2022 20:10

DH just went to collect things from the Post Office Click and Collect which is 20 minutes away but Mrs Unhelpful was on the desk. He luckily managed to collect my chemo orders as had ordered them in his name but my Boden parcel had ordered in my name so she said I needed to go or she would not give it, normally its fine. He explained I had cancer and was in bed due to doing chemo and then she said well she will have to get this parcel sent back and reorder the same in your name and you can come back. So have just done that but pain in the neck though at least its gone down £7 in price. DH said next time he will avoid her and wait until Mr Helpful is serving.

Feeling bit rough now.

SevenSistersStar · 26/03/2022 20:25

Took my daughter to two five year old's birthday parties today. Just put her to bed, she's exhausted.

Husband reckons the bath waste is partly blocked, adding to our plumbing woes.

Loved the sunshine today.

gluenotsoup · 26/03/2022 21:09

Thank you for the welcome, everyone. 💐 @MissConductUS -that looks a beautiful part of the world, lucky you 😊.
I am in NW England, 3 beautiful dd’s, one with severe and life limiting disabilities. I was a teacher in a former life, now I love interior design, family and anything that tickles my odd sense of humour.
We had our fire serviced today, it looks much better, all cosy again. Teenage dd is tired and grumpy, and I am looking forward to reading in bed after a long day. 😳

LoveFall · 26/03/2022 22:15

We are having roast pork and applesauce tonight so I am working on my quest for the ultimate Yorkshire pudding. I read a long article on a website called serious eats. The author is a bit of a kitchen scientist and tries various things. The batter is made a sitting on the counter for a couple of hours before baking. Here's hoping. My Mom's were always great but I have been known to produce lovely light brown hockey pucks.

I have been literally playing "ring around the eyedrops" the past few days. Glaucoma drops. Two of them. One is twice a day and the other once. They have very user-unfriendly names and remarkably similar bottles (teeny-tiny). Antibiotics drops 3 times a day, left eye only. Artificial tears both eyes.

To top it off, I picked up two of the same glaucoma drop bottles, one I had just refilled, to show the doctor at my eye exam. Oops both the same. Then I chucked them away as I thought they were empty. They are so small the weight of 1/2 oz of what ever it is called is hard to detect.

So none of the once a day left.

Are you confused yet?

The bottles used to look very different but now they are nearly identical.

I had to call the pharmacist and get a new one. It took me two days to get up the courage.

I hope it is not dementia creeping in...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/03/2022 23:29

Love That sounds stressful! As my brain quite often does strange things, I put different neon labels on medicine bottles to be sure.

Silkie This is probably a stupid question: when I order something and DH or DS has to go and collect it, I write them a 'Vollmacht' (I can't find the proper English word)? and they can go and legally collect it.

My hand (the one with the lymph problem) let go of a bucket of hot water. The piece of floor in front of the bathroom door is very very clean now.

MissConductUS · 26/03/2022 23:46

Champagne, what you are experiencing with ddog is the real cost of healthcare. It's a bit of a shock when someone else isn't paying for it, innit?

Silkie, my post office is generally unhelpful too.

Seven, plumbing is the bane of homeowners everywhere.

Glue, it is lovely here. I've lived here my whole life. It's also easy to get to NYC by train from here, so we went in a lot with the kids as they grew up and DS is going to be moving back in after uni and then starts a job in the city next September.

Since I'm on my own for dinner tonight I ordered a takeaway from a barbeque place DH isn't wild about but I really like. I got a full rack of barbequed ribs and some teriyaki chicken wings, and they were fab. :) I have a lot leftover.

Because everyone loves a picture, here's one of the IT cat guarding the network operations center chez Conduct this afternoon.

Champagneforeveryone · 27/03/2022 03:05

That's so true miss, though as a pet owner of many years I'm unfortunately well versed in the actual cost of medical care Hmm

Anyway, DDog1 is on a diet and not terribly thrilled by it Grin

Silkierabbit · 27/03/2022 03:22

Prok Your German postal system sounds much more organised than ours, that would be a sensible thing to have here but its much more casual and normally if you have the parcel collection details and ID of person its for then there is no issue. DH has collected things from there before in my name like that and quite a few other shops.

The Post Office growing up used to be super reliable here MissC Nowadays we have a lot go missing here and always dread when something is sent via them as delivery method though its normally fine when its tracked. We normally use that Post office to avoid things being lost sent here and as they are open really long hours, our village ones open about 3 hours a week. They have been fine up until now.
Boden have at least been great and already refunded in the middle of the night and sent me a lovely e-mail to say sorry you are doing chemo and sorry this happened. Though its much more of a pain for them than me as they had to refund, receive one back, send another out. I just needed an e-mail. DH has to go twice though he likes going out to fetch things.

I got some more sleep which was good, have to have it when I can get it with the meds and indigestion pain.

Champagneforeveryone · 27/03/2022 04:56

Seems we are both struggling with delivery issues silkie Hmm

Helpfully for DDog1's diet, the dog food has not turned up and will need to be thrown away when / if it rocks up on Monday.

Then my new nest spying cameras were supposed to be delivered today and the Amazon tracker said it was 5 stops away. I then received a further message to say delivery was attempted and was unsuccessful so hotfooted it to Amazon chat in high dudgeon. I was then promised they would have it delivered prior to 10pm. Amazingly, they also have failed to appear Hmm

Makiwa · 27/03/2022 06:42

Good morning all - newbies and regulars . Clocks have gone back today here in France. DD2 is running in our town's big race today. It's a lovely event with shorter distances for children going through to 10km. Most of the run is through the forest but the 10km has a loop through the town centre. Friends who have twins the same age are coming over to support her so they'll all stay for lunch afterwards.

Holothane · 27/03/2022 06:44

Much better night no sleep but rested at least taken another lot of painkillers looks like this is routine now for night time twitches stopped with muscles and pain.

Silkierabbit · 27/03/2022 07:43

Happy Mother's Day to anyone celebrating, all 23 hours of it. Grin
